Neighbourhood
Our neighbourhood is a small peninsula of houses up from Orewa. Orewa is a lovely seaside town with a beautiful and long sandy beach. The beach is very gradual and at low tide you can walk out about 3-400 metres before the water is chest height. It is perfect for small children and directly across from the beach is the town centre with shops, cafes, bars, grocery stores, etc. The best time to visit is the southern summer - late December through end of April.
Getting to my home
New Zealand is very rural and you will need a car to get around. We are located about 45 minutes north of downtown Auckland. There is a bus station that will take you into downtown and connecting buses from a bus stop located about 200 metres from our home.
Nearest airport
Auckland International Airport
Getting Around
You will need a car to get around in NZ. We may be able to loan you our car while you are here but we would need to discuss.
We recently spent a couple of weeks with Lisa and Rupert . A lovely couple that made us feel extremely welcome in the hillside home. Spectacular views from every angle of their home. Lisa was kind enough to drive us the short under 10 minute drive to the beach and we enjoyed the calmness of the Orewa beach waves. Many small quaint cafes and restaurants line the street parallel to the beach. They currently have 5 ducklings that grew substantially during our stay. Cute little things that were discovering new things in their garden each day. We loved watching them. Star, their turkey kept a close eye on the ducks. Lisa did play tour guide during our stay and was very informative on the region. We were able to use their e bikes into town. We had a wonderful experience and a great big thank you to
Lisa and Rupert for our most memorable stay in Orewa..
Thanks so much Carol Ann. We loved hosting you and Christine and Evelyn. I hope you have a great time on your extended travels. And I hope we can get together again in future. Kind regards, Lisa
Unfortunately, due to illness Lisa was unable to travel to Melbourne to stay with us. They communicated very well and seem to be lovely people, we look forward to welcoming them in the future.
Now here we are in April 2026 and this time Lisa and Rupert made it to Melbourne and stayed in our home. We loved meeting them at the start of the stay and they communicated well with us during and after the exchange.
They left our home in pristine condition - we couldn't tell they had been there. Wonderful guests! We are looking forward to a stay in their home in the not too distant future.
Lisa and Rupert spent 2 weeks in Montreal in August. Lisa was a pleasure to communicate with and I found my home to be absolutely spotless when they left 😊. And I shared a lunch with them and got to know them better, which made this exchange an absolute success. I highly recommend talking to Lisa and Rupert!
It was a pleasure having Rupert and Lisa stay with me. Looking forward to seeing them again soon! They were wonderful guests. I feel as if I've made new friends for life.
Feedback for Lorraine and Jim·Non-Simultaneous exchange·4 nights
5 Stars - Even though we weren't able to complete this exchange, Jim and Lorraine were so kind and understanding. We are hoping to get a chance to meet up this next year.
Feedback for Patric·Non-Simultaneous exchange·14 nights
Carol Ann and her sister and a friend came to NZ in Jan-Feb 2025. They were great guests - very tidy and quiet - and lots of fun! I really enjoyed hosting them and showing off some of NZ's destinations. I think the favorite draw was the beach here in our little town of Orewa. Carol Ann has a lot of experience as a host and she was able to share with me some tips for PLU. I would absolutely love to host Carol Ann & friends again.
Feedback for Patric·Non-Simultaneous exchange·13 nights
Patric is warm and inviting and very helpful. His apartment in Montreal was beautifully decorated and very conveniently located with lots of cafes, restaurants, and of course close to downtown Montreal. We had a wonderful time using the Bixi bikes that were just around the corner and the busing system was also great. It was easy to get around and see everything. I think Patric is a great host. I would love to come back to Montreal again - it is a great city.
Feedback for Carol Ann·Non-Simultaneous exchange·19 nights
Carol Ann is a truly gracious host. She is one of those people that loves to meet new people. Her home is so inviting and comfortable, plus the pool in the summer is a real treat. Her communication in either English or French is exceptional and she has lots of information on all the things to do and see in Montreal. There are great busing and biking options in her neighborhood. (We didn't have a car and didn't need one.) I look forward to having Carol Ann visit us in our home. Au Revoir and see you soon (we hope).
