General overview

My home is surrounded by a lush garden, with big windows all around and plenty of covered outdoor space to sit and listen to the birds. There is a second kitchen outside and a grill to enjoy the year round tropical weather. It has a dreamy pool (with a large first step, nice for kids!). It feels comfortable and cozy and has all the right luxuries. This is a magical place to feel connected with nature and watch hummingbirds, macaws, and the occasional toucan. This is my sanctuary and I am excited to share it with you. My town, Ojochal, is filled with a lot of families, some of the best restaurants in Costa Rica, a cute cafe nearby and quick access to beaches and beautiful river spots. I can get creative with my dates for globes and non sim exchanges, and for the right matches happy to arrange a sim exchange. Note: the guardian of the house is my cat and we have a few chickens that gift us eggs along the backside of the house.. (more below) I will consider pets, if they are friendly with cats and chickens. Just ask! * There is also a newly built studio Casita with a queen bed, sofa bed, A/C, kitchenette full bathroom and a great view towards the mountains. If you are a couple or small family wanting to visit, the Casita would be an option with more flexible dates in exchange for a globe. (My daughter and I will also be on the property - happy to welcome you, and she will definitely want to come say Hi)

The space

This single story home has a covered porch all the way around with plenty of outdoor space and a pool to enjoy. The kitchen and living area are surrounded by windows and glass doors so you get a great view of the tropical garden and pool, feeling the connection to outside .. while also enjoying the cooler climate inside. Lots of comfy seating and play space for kids or your own dancing around. It is a colorful house, walls and decor, as I like to enjoy all colors. There are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, all accessible in the same area of the house- so great for family or perhaps a couple that likes their own rooms. Both have queen beds with AC (though will soon upgrade one bedroom to a king size Avocado bed). On the property there is also a newly built studio casita with a queen bed and a small sofa bed. Typically I will leave it locked up and store my extra stuff in here, though we can discuss the possibility of using this space if needed.

Guest access

It is a single story home, fully enclosed with access to the parking area thru a private gate. A gravel path leads to the house and there is a single step up. The house has a wrap around porch. There are 4 sliding glass doors, poolside, as well as a front and back wooden door. On the opposite side of the house there is a small parking area next to the detached casita with access in thru a walk in gate -then down a few steps and across a few stepping stones. I use this side gate when going out for walks or to receive any visitors.

Notes

This is also home to my cat, Yaya, who is a kind companion (and does need to be fed).. and a few egg laying chickens (who also need to be fed but it is possible to make other arrangements for them if necessary). The chickens have a large fenced in area that runs along the backside of the house to the edge of the fence line (which is a wall of hibiscus). They are fairly out of view unless going to feed them or say hello, but you will hear them when they rise in the morning (don’t worry, no roosters! Just hens chatting after the sun is up) They lay wonderful eggs for you to enjoy.

Neighbourhood

My home is located in Ojochal, a small residential town. The town is a blend of ticos (Costa Ricans) and settled foreigners (primarily French and Quebecois, as well as North American and some other Europeans). It is a very family oriented town with a couple retreat centers as well. My home is on a corner lot towards the end of a dead end street, I have neighbors but it feels very private and is usually quiet. You will mostly hear birds. It is easy to go for a walk in the area (best done in the mornings before the sun gets too warm). Down the street you can walk to a small cafe. In our town (about a 5 minute drive) you will find a grocery store, a couple specialty markets, a few restaurants (we have some great options here!), a pharmacy, an herbalist shop, a cafe and a weekly market or two for local produce and products. Nearby you can quickly arrive to the beach and find more dining options as well. 20 minutes north is the more tourist town of Uvita with most other conveniences you could need… it has more shops, a couple banks, more bakeries, cafes and restaurants and a bigger bi weekly farmers market. (And my favorite river spot!) as well as the well known whale’s tail beach. You will find a lot of croissants here. And a lot of fresh fruit. And beautiful nature everywhere.

Getting to my home

Arrive at San Jose by plane. Airport code SJO Options to come from San Jose: By bus - Uber, bus, or taxi to the bus station (20 minutes from the airport). Take a bus 4-5 hrs to the nearest, more touristic town of Uvita. Take a taxi south 20 minutes to arrive at the house. By taxi - direct from airport to house approx. 4.5 hrs and driver is happy to make any stops along the way. Cost is around $200. It is a long trek. The drive is beautiful! Good restaurants midway.

Nearest airport

San Jose, 4.5 hrs away… most easily accessed by a taxi or bus ride, depending on budget.

Getting around

My home is in the central part of the village, no 4x4 needed, and easy access to arrive and park. Within a few minutes you can drive to great restaurants, a grocery store and a couple smaller specialty markets, and a local cafe. 10-15 minutes to the nearest beaches and river spots. Car is needed to get around comfortably. Depending on availability, car exchange is possible.
