Neighbourhood
Cornwall is one of the most beautiful areas to visit in the UK. The cottage is situated in an area called the Lizard which is in the far south west. There are many charming fishing villages to visit, hidden creeks, ancient oak woods and moorlands. Porthallow is the midway point on the South West Coastal Path.
The Minack Theatre is an open air theatre built into the cliffs about an hour from the village.
St Michael’s Mount (filming location for HBO’s House of the Dragon) is reached by a causeway at low tide or by a shuttle boat, about 45 minutes away.
There are many local attractions and activities including walking, sailing, diving, horse riding, gardens to visit wonderful pubs and restaurants close by.
The gardens Bonython, Trebah, Glendurgan and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are among our favourites.
This summer whales and dolphins have been seen on this part of the coast.
There is a golf course at Mullion.
St Winwaloe’s (The Church of the Storms) at Church Cove has a long history with there being a record of a chapel on the site in 1332. The church has Tudor screens which are thought to have come a shipwreck.
We are very happy to provide more information to our guests.
The village of St Keverne is an 8 minute drive from Porthallow, and has a shop, two pubs, a fantastic restaurant (The Green House), medieval church, post office, a garage, a family owned butchers (who will make hampers for guests), and a fish and chips van every Friday from 4-8.30pm. Just outside the village (a 10 minute walk from the square) is Roskilley’s Farm, a family friendly dairy farm with a restaurant, award winning ice cream, gift shop, petting zoo, and walks.
The Porthkerris dive centre is a five minute drive. The waters off the peninsula are clear and full of wildlife and shipwrecks, making it an ideal location for diving.
The large town of Helston is about a 30 minutes drive and has many restaurants, museums, pubs, the Blue Anchor Brewery, supermarkets, parks, Flambard’s amusement park, swimming pool, hospital (minor injuries unit), and cinema.
The village of Coverack is a 15 minute drive away. The village has large, sandy beaches, opportunities for paddle boarding, wind surfing, and other sports. There are also pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, and an ice cream stand.
Porthleven, Penzance, Mousehole are among our favourite places to visit. St Ives with the Barbara Hepworth collection, the Tate Modern and many other small galleries is worth spending time to explore.
To get to St Ives from Bank Cottage drive to St Erth and catch a train which will take you to St Ives a very pretty journey along the coast.

My husband and I are recently retired and have three adult sons and two grandchildren. We are a busy family who enjoy a wide variety of activities and interests. We sometimes travel together but my husband and myself also enjoy getting away on our own.
