What do you propose for summer 2025?
Our home is a one level, ranch style house in a quiet, family neighborhood in sunny Long Beach, California. We live in a typical neighborhood for southern California with green lawns and sidewalks. We are an 8 minute drive from the beach. Anything else you might want to do in southern California is within a 60 minute radius of our home.
Long Beach is known for its water sport opportunities, fantastic restaurants, and various arts and antique districts.
We love to paddleboard, kayak, and sail, and I row competitively. We are 20 minutes from Disneyland, 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and 35 minutes from Beverly Hills / Westwood. Universal Studios is about 40 minutes away and it takes about 45-50 minutes to get to Malibu. You can catch a boat here in Long Beach and be on Catalina Island in an hour. Heading south you can be in Huntington Beach in 15 minutes, Laguna Beach in 25 minutes, and San Diego in 90 minutes. 4 hours to Las Vegas.
The space
Our house is about 1800 square feet / 172 meters square. Not huge but we think it's comfortable! We have 3 bedrooms with beds for 5 people ( two beds sleep 2 people each, and one bed sleeps 1) and a pull out couch for 2 more in one other VERY SMALL TINY TINY room. We can also sleep one additional adventuresome person in our napping casita - a small building in our garden that we use for reading, napping, and the occasional overnight guest. Two bathrooms, one with a tub. Open, well-equipped kitchen, living room, family room, and office. The back garden has a gas fire pit, a gas grill for cooking, dining area, lots of grass for the kids to run around, and flowers and fruit trees. Our housekeeper will come before you arrive, every two weeks during your stay (if you stay 3 weeks or more), and again when you leave so you don't have to worry about cleaning - we will pay for this!
Guest access
Single level home with three steps up to the front door, and two steps out the back. Parking for one car and street parking for any more.
Notes
Our house does not have central air conditioning or heating....we usually don't need either in our area. If it does get hot we have portable AC in two of the three bedrooms, and ceiling fans in a number of rooms. We have heaters for each room if it gets chilly at night.
Our house cleaner will come before and after the exchange (at our expense) so you do not have to worry about cleaning before you leave. If the exchange is more than 3 weeks long, we will also have her come every two weeks so you don't have to worry about cleaning on your vacation!

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood was built in 1953 and has maintained a family atmosphere. We are just a few blocks from California State University at Long Beach which has beautiful pools for public lap swimming 3 times a day. Our neighborhood has everything you need from grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, movie theaters, art galleries and museums, as well as golf. Water sports are king here and Long Beach is known as the aquatics capital of the world. Kayaking, sailing, stand-up-paddleboarding, surfing, swimming, rowing, waterskiing, and power boating. You can drive to the beach or the bay in just a few minutes. Long Beach is very community oriented with many events designed to bring people together - organized dinners, walks, community gardens, recreational classes for adults and kids, outdoor concerts, movies on the beach, etc. It's a great place to get to know a coastal American city and its people!
Getting to my home
Flying in to Los Angeles/Orange County you can take a taxi (about $70 USD), Uber ($45 - 90 depending on the time of day), or rent a car from the airport.
Nearest airport
Long Beach Municipal airport (LGB) is 10 minutes from the house for domestic travelers. International airports are either Los Angeles International (LAX) or John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County.
Getting around
UNFORTUNATELY OUR CARS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXCHANGE. You really do need a car in southern California and will need to rent one. Public transportation is very limited. Uber is also convenient and arrives within a few minutes if you are open to that.

Open to ideas for summer 2025!
Our family are experienced exchangers with 27 happy exchanges since 2007. We sometimes travel with our 27 year old son and sometimes not.
We love this type of travel and have enjoyed spending time like a local and also giving that experience to others in our home. We have an extensive guide prepared about our area so you won't run out of things to do.
Please see our pictures for descriptions of our home.
We have 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a napping casita out back with a single bed. The main house can sleep 5 in beds and two more on a pull-out couch (in a VERY small room). If someone wants to "glamp" they can sleep out in the casita! Children are just fine! Our house is not fussy or a museum...it's meant to be lived in.
Our nearest major airport for international visitors is LAX or SNA (Orange County). For US-based visitors you can fly into Long Beach airport (LGB) from many major cities.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
Our open kitchen has sunlight wells and has everything you need. Drip coffee + Nespresso. Professional mixer and knives. Toaster. You name it!
I love to bake so had a double convection oven installed. It also works on conventional heat. If you bake I have all the tools for that!
Our 50 inch smart TV gets almost 1,000 channels + Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube. Books to browse and there are games for kids in the cupboards below.
Our dining table seats 8 and opens out to the back garden via double French doors.
In our living room my husband built much of our furniture in the Craftsman style.
This is our cozy guest room for one at the front of the house.
Quiet corner of the guest room to work or write letters.
The bathroom at the front of the house has a jacuzzi tub / shower, sink, and toilet.
We have a small exercise room with many objects and books that are travel related.
Our small home office also has many pieces built by my husband. Open beamed ceilings and collected antiques.
The master bedroom sleeps two people. Ensuite bathroom.
We will clear out a closet in the master bedroom for you so you can unpack your things and stay a while!
Ensuite master bathroom.
The new washer / dryer are in the garage - very common in California.
Comfortable seating in our back garden under the wisteria.
Small fountain in the back...the raccoons just destroyed it (varmints!) so my husband is currently rebuilding it!
The gas firepit is our favorite thing - sitting here with a glass of wine in the evening is lovely!
A new gas grill is arriving today or tomorrow and will go here. I will post pictures when it is installed.
Small garden patch. Our backyard is filled with flowers in spring and late summer. We also have several kinds of fruit trees and a berry bramble.
Our magnet collection from all of our travels.
Sit on the front porch and greet the neighbors as they walk their dogs.
Our neighborhood is very typical of southern California and was built in 1953. Lots of lawns and sidewalks. Beautiful magnolia trees line our street.
