General overview

We have a comfortable home with 3 bedrooms available to exchange in Paignton, Devon. Easy 3hr train journey from London!

The space

We have a double, and 2 single bedrooms to offer. For a longer exchange we have an office which could be made available too.The single rooms are childrens, but have full sized single beds, so can accommodate adults / older children. We have one family bathroom with shower over bath, and an extra downstairs toilet. There is a kitchen/ diner, which seats 4 people, (6 at a squeeze with spare folding chairs). There is a small utility room with washing machine, dish washer and tumble dryer. The living room is bright and spacious in the day time, and warm and cozy in the evenings. There is an open fire, and we have Amazon Prime for TV and Movie watching. We have listed the property as suitable for ages 2+ because we no longer have high chairs, cots or stairgates. If you are comfortable with this then it's okay with us! The front patio is fenced in with French doors leading out from the living room. This is great for the kids to play. The back garden is a good size, however it is terraced with plenty of steps to reach the top. We recommend that young children are supervised at all times! We have a veg plot (which may or may not be planted!) and BBQ area. There is a fire pit amongst the trees hidden away at the very top.

Guest access

Unfortunately due to the steps for gaining access to the property, stairs inside the house, and steps in the back garden, the property isn't suitable for people with mobility issues, or for children who aren't comfortable with stairs or slopes.

Notes

Our cat has a cat flap so just needs food, water and love, not letting in and out. He doesn't have a litter tray.

Neighbourhood

Our house is on the outskirts of Paignton with views over the bay. It makes getting around quick and easy, because we don't have to drive through town to get anywhere! There are 2 small shops at the end of our road which sell essentials, 1 is also a post office. There is also a Chinese takeaway (although it's not the one we use). There is a slightly larger Co-op 20 minute walk (2 minute drive). The large supermarkets are an easy drive away (5-10 minutes depending on traffic). It takes approximately 30-40 minutes to walk to the beach, we don't walk it with the kids, because we live at the top of a long hill and the road is busy. You can catch busses to attrractions around Torbay from the bus station in town. There are so many things to do, and places to visit in good and bad weather! There are 26 beaches and coves to explore in Torbay with it's fascinating geology, it's classed as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Dartmoor National Park is a 40 minute drive, and there are endless attractions including Paignton Zoo, Kents Caverns, Woodlands Theme Park, Babbacombe railway, and Model Village.

Getting to my home

If you arrive in Paignton by train you can catch a taxi (approx Β£5), or bus (approx Β£2 per person). The bus station is opposite the train station (handy!) The bus stop for our house is around the corner, on the next road, (2 minutes walk). From here busses run regularly to the main bus station. If you arrive by car, we are easy to find as we are on the outskirts of the town. Simply turn off the ring road, and we are a few streets along (depending on the direction from which you came).

Nearest airport

Exeter Airport is the closest. Bristol and Cardiff are bigger airports and only about 2 hours by train. It is possible to get to Paignton from any of these airports by train.

Getting around

There is a corner shop and Post office a couple of minutes walk. The bus stop around the corner runs frequently to the bus station, from here you can catch a bus to anywhere in Torbay, Plymouth, Exeter or nearby Totnes. There is also a train station in Paignton which can take you to and from London, into Cornwall or head North

Natalie

Hi, I'm Natalie! πŸ‘‹ My partner Rob and I have two children (2014) and (2018), plus a super friendly cat called Teddy. We live in the popular town of Paignton in South West England. We think that home exchange is such a great way to travel and let others experience our part of the world! We will be restricted to school holidays for exchanges abroad, but are keen to try some weekend exchanges closer to home! I'm studying BSc Speech and Language Therapy in Plymouth and Rob runs a web hosting business, working from home. Myself and the kids are vegetarian, and I don't cook meat. Rob eats meat when he gets the chance! Meat in the house is fine, just please clean everything really really well! I think we have a comfortable home, with plenty of toys for little ones. The toys however aren't overwhelming, so the house would also suit couples, singles, or families with older children. Before we discovered home exhange, (and before we had our second child) we used to rent our spare room to guests. We've had some fantastic evenings chatting with guests from many different places. Once we even squeezed an entire Australian family with grown up children into the room, because they were stuck for somewhere to stay! Brilliant fun! We look forward to making new friends, exploring new places, and sharing our home with you!
