We have a comfortable home with 3 bedrooms available to exchange in Paignton, Devon. Easy 3hr train journey from London!
We have a double, and 2 single bedrooms to offer. For a longer exchange we have an office which could be made available too.The single rooms are childrens, but have full sized single beds, so can accommodate adults / older children.
We have one family bathroom with shower over bath, and an extra downstairs toilet.
There is a kitchen/ diner, which seats 4 people, (6 at a squeeze with spare folding chairs).
There is a small utility room with washing machine, dish washer and tumble dryer.
The living room is bright and spacious in the day time, and warm and cozy in the evenings. There is an open fire, and we have Amazon Prime for TV and Movie watching.
We have listed the property as suitable for ages 2+ because we no longer have high chairs, cots or stairgates. If you are comfortable with this then it's okay with us!
The front patio is fenced in with French doors leading out from the living room. This is great for the kids to play. The back garden is a good size, however it is terraced with plenty of steps to reach the top. We recommend that young children are supervised at all times! We have a veg plot (which may or may not be planted!) and BBQ area. There is a fire pit amongst the trees hidden away at the very top.
Unfortunately due to the steps for gaining access to the property, stairs inside the house, and steps in the back garden, the property isn't suitable for people with mobility issues, or for children who aren't comfortable with stairs or slopes.
Our cat has a cat flap so just needs food, water and love, not letting in and out. He doesn't have a litter tray.

Our house is on the outskirts of Paignton with views over the bay. It makes getting around quick and easy, because we don't have to drive through town to get anywhere! There are 2 small shops at the end of our road which sell essentials, 1 is also a post office. There is also a Chinese takeaway (although it's not the one we use). There is a slightly larger Co-op 20 minute walk (2 minute drive). The large supermarkets are an easy drive away (5-10 minutes depending on traffic).
It takes approximately 30-40 minutes to walk to the beach, we don't walk it with the kids, because we live at the top of a long hill and the road is busy. You can catch busses to attrractions around Torbay from the bus station in town.
There are so many things to do, and places to visit in good and bad weather! There are 26 beaches and coves to explore in Torbay with it's fascinating geology, it's classed as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Dartmoor National Park is a 40 minute drive, and there are endless attractions including Paignton Zoo, Kents Caverns, Woodlands Theme Park, Babbacombe railway, and Model Village.
Getting to my home
If you arrive in Paignton by train you can catch a taxi (approx £5), or bus (approx £2 per person). The bus station is opposite the train station (handy!) The bus stop for our house is around the corner, on the next road, (2 minutes walk). From here busses run regularly to the main bus station.
If you arrive by car, we are easy to find as we are on the outskirts of the town. Simply turn off the ring road, and we are a few streets along (depending on the direction from which you came).
Exeter Airport is the closest. Bristol and Cardiff are bigger airports and only about 2 hours by train. It is possible to get to Paignton from any of these airports by train.
There is a corner shop and Post office a couple of minutes walk. The bus stop around the corner runs frequently to the bus station, from here you can catch a bus to anywhere in Torbay, Plymouth, Exeter or nearby Totnes. There is also a train station in Paignton which can take you to and from London, into Cornwall or head North
We had another awesome stay at Natalie’s lovely home. Couldn’t recommend this place enough- especially if you have children. So many excellent places to visit on your doorstep and a gorgeous cat Teddy to welcome you. This is our second stay here and we would always love to return for future visits.
We had a wonderful time visiting Devon! Natalie's home is very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. There was loads of lovely places to visit nearby and Natalie gave us some great recommendations of places to see and where to eat etc., which was really helpful. She was always available if we needed and made us feel very welcome in her home - thanks again Natalie :-)
Natalie's home in Devon was perfect for our young family, our two boys really enjoyed playing with their children's toys. And they loved looking after their cat Teddy, who really was low maintenance and didn't impose on our holiday plans. There are two outdoor area's and the boys enjoyed their swings, slides and trampoline! We had all the comforts we needed in their home and very thoughtful welcome gifts for us which we appreciated very much.
Being where we were allowed us to explore a lot, including Dartmoor, Dartmouth, Torquay, a choice of beaches as well as Paignton Zoo and Dinosaur world.
We had good communication with Natalie leading up to the trip and she was always available via whats app if we needed to ask anything. This was our first exchange, but Natalie made it very easy and was reassuring. Highly recommend staying here.
Thank you so much for an amazing introduction to home exchanging Natalie. Your place was perfect and you had thought of everything. We absolutely loved being guests at your house - it was super comfortable and clean. Teddy was such a friendly, happy cat to care for. The kids loved playing with the toys and in your great garden. The location of your house is absolutely perfect for exploring the English Riviera. We would absolutely love to come back and exchange with you again as there was so much to do, and your house was perfect for us - thank you.
We loved everything about this home exchange. We felt very welcome from when we first arrived with some lovely gifts of wine and biscuits. Two sweet cats were there to welcome us and our children loved stroking them and helping to take care of them.
The area is wonderful for families with so many beautiful beaches and places to explore. Natalie left some great recommendations for places to visit which was really helpful. We really enjoyed our trip to Dartmouth by steam train. We also had a lovely walk through Dartmoor on our way home. Their home is comfortable and homely with everything you need, as well as a wonderful view of the sea from the top of the garden.
We had a really great long weekend and would return without hesitation. Thanks so much!
Natalie’s home was perfect for us. Leaving us with a wonderful welcome pack, plenty of toys to keep the children entertained, two beautiful friendly cats we had a brilliant holiday exploring the area. The location was fantastic too- from beaches to woodlands, water parks to steam railways there were endless fun days out for us to enjoy right on their doorstep. The only trouble was we didn’t have time to fit everything in which is why we’d love to return for another exchange in the future 😊
A comfortable house on the outskirts of Paignton. Two easy going cats, on road parking, a view of the sea from the back garden, three of us had a lovely exchange, exploring the area, with easy communication before, during and after.
We walked into Paignton, explored the sea front, amusement arcades and Geopark, took the steam train from Paignton to Kingswear and ferry to Dartmouth (longer boat trips also available along the beautiful Dart), visited Compton Castle and Greenways (holiday home to Agatha Christie), spent an afternoon at the water park, visited Berry Head nature reserve (amazing scones in the cafe there) and Broadsands beach. A busy four days!
Natalie and her family are guests you should invite to your home. Either as an exchange or - as with us- for a globe ( we would love to visit but just don’t have time tonight now with a long list of upcoming travels). Natalie was very easy and friendly to communicate with and we are sad not to have met her and her family. They left the house clean and tidy and we still enjoy lovely cookies and fudge! Thank you so much for visiting us in Oslo and we hope you will return! All the very best and a big hug from me and my family- Kathrin
Natalie and her family looked after our chickens very well whilst we were away and our home was very clean and tidy upon return. It was as if they hadn't been here! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Natalie and her family to exchange with. In particular how approachable and willingness to make contact if necessary very reassuring, especially as this was our first home exchange.
Natalie and her family really looked after our house and were very considerate and thoughtful guests. We couldn’t have asked for more! Thank you so much for making our first home exchange such a positive experience
Natalie’s family were the perfect guests in our home. Communication was easy and friendly before and during the exchange, and we returned home to a clean and tidy home. We wouldn’t hesitate to swap with them again.
Natalie and family were great guests. They looked after our home and cats perfectly. Rob even sorted out our rambling courgette plants, creating a structure out of canes to keep it off the ground. We kept in daily contact with them which I really enjoyed as we could share updates of our adventures in each other’s neighbourhoods. They are welcome back to Elmley Castle any time!
This was our first exchange through PLU, but twelfth exchange completed. Communication was easy from start to finish. Our house was as we left it on our return. I can recommend a swap with Natalie if you want to explore this beautiful part of Devon.
It was wonderful to have Kate, Ant and the kids back in our home! They are fantastic guests who look after our house and cat Teddy perfectly! Communication is easy and clear. They will always be welcome back and we look forward to organising our next stay at their home. 🥰
We had an absolutely wonderful time at Kathrin's home. It's in a lovely neighborhood close to Oslo. It was perfect for us as we prefer to be just outside a city. The public transport is so easy, frequent, reliable and leaves from just around the corner so very convenient! We found using the VY app for all tickets was perfect.
Her house is lovely, comfortable and has everything you need. The kids loved playing with the local kids on the shared trampoline outside and also with the toys in the cute playroom.
We had one relaxing day at home when it rained and the rest of the time we spent visiting various places in Oslo. A highlight was definitely island hopping the fjord on the ferry! So beautiful! It was a fantastic place to start our Norwegian adventure! We definitely recommend an exchange here 😊 x
Claire and her family were wonderful guests. They stayed at our home on a globe exchange and took great care of our house and cat Teddy. Communication was clear and easy from the start. They are a lovely family with lots of experience exchanging. Welcome to the PLU family! 😊
Charlotte's home is beautiful and we absolutely loved our exchange here. It has everything you need and is surrounded by gourgeous walks. The chickens are wonderful and very easy to look after. the kids loved feeding them and collecting the eggs for breakfast! It's also close enough to London if you wanted a day trip. We would have done if we'd stayed for longer. We would 100% recommend an exchange here!
Charlotte and her family are lovely guests. Communication was so easy from the start. We had a video call before the exchange which was great. They left our home spotless and our cat Teddy was well looked after! Wonderful guests and would be welcome back any time!
Hazel's home is lovely and very comfortable with plenty of toys and a nice garden for the kids to enjoy. We felt at home right from the start. It's in a great location to visit some nice places such as Foxton Locks and the National Space Centre. Market Harbrough is a very pretty town with lots of nice places to eat, shop and play! The little playpark around the corner was handy with the kids too!
My parents stayed with us on the exchange and we had plenty of space. I would absolutely recommend an exchange here!
Hazel and her family are lovely and we felt so very welcome in their home. There was even an Easter treasure hunt for the kids which was fun and very thoughtful! Communication was so easy and we enjoyed a video call before we exchanged. They were also kind enough to prepare the house for other exchange guests to arrive as we had arranged back to back. I would 100% recommend an exchange with Hazel and her family. They would be welcome back to ours any time!
We had a wonderful long weekend in Bath! Sarah's home is beautiful, clean and comfortable. It's in a nice little neighbourhood, with a bakery, deli and convenience store at the end of the road. The bus stops are minutes walk away to take you into the city center, or to Bristol.
It's an easy walk to Victoria Park and the Botanical Gardens. We were lucky enough to visit the travelling steam fair, and the kids absolutely loved the park. We had a fantastic day exploring the city, then relaxed in their garden with a glass of wine and some fresh figs from their trees!
We 100% recommend an exchange with Sarah and family to explore the city and surrounding area. We hope to come back again some day!
We had excellent communication before and during our exchange. Sarah really helped us relax during preparations for our first ever exchange a couple of weeks before! Our house was left perfectly clean and tidy, and our cats very very well loved and looked after. Thank you!
We had an absolutely wonderful week at Kate and Ant's home. It was so lovely and welcoming, with everything we needed. The kids loved the toys, and we loved relaxing in the garden in the evening. It was great to stay in a village as we live in a town. The cricket pitch, park and clubhouse are just across the road, and we were made to feel very welcome at the village pub.
We visited Eastnor castle and All Things Wild, as well as exploring some of the beautiful Cotswolds on foot. Kate had some great recommendations, our favourite was probably visiting the pretty town of Broadway, and walking up to the tower.
We would happily exchange again, as there is so much more to do in the area! And we would love to see their gourgeous kitties again. What a pleasure it was to have them to take care of 😻.
We had great communication with Kate and Ant before and throughout our exchange. We'd love to meet at some point! Our house was left clean and tidy for our next exchangers as it was a back to back exchange. We know our cats were well taken care of, and we loved theirs too!
Definitely recommend exchanging with them, and exploring this beautiful area.
Lesley's home is comfortable and welcoming. We felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. It was so handy to have the family bathroom plus two ensuits, because my parents joined us on the exchange. There were plenty of toys for my kids to enjoy, and the garden is lovely.
The village is very pretty and we enjoyed strolls after dinner. We took Lesley's advice and bought goods from the local bakery, enjoyed the nearby Barnsdale Gardens, and had some fun at Rutland water. A relaxing few days!
Communication with Lesley was straightforward and clear. It was nice to complete our first exchange with someone experienced. We followed her lead! Our house was as we left it on return. I'd definitely recommend an exchange with Lesley and her family, if you'd like to discover the little gem, Rutland!
Hi, I'm Natalie! 👋 My partner Rob and I have two children (2014) and (2018), plus a super friendly cat called Teddy. We live in the popular town of Paignton in South West England. We think that home exchange is such a great way to travel and let others experience our part of the world! We will be restricted to school holidays for exchanges abroad, but are keen to try some weekend exchanges closer to home!
I'm studying BSc Speech and Language Therapy in Plymouth and Rob runs a web hosting business, working from home.
Myself and the kids are vegetarian, and I don't cook meat. Rob eats meat when he gets the chance! Meat in the house is fine, just please clean everything really really well!
I think we have a comfortable home, with plenty of toys for little ones. The toys however aren't overwhelming, so the house would also suit couples, singles, or families with older children. Before we discovered home exhange, (and before we had our second child) we used to rent our spare room to guests. We've had some fantastic evenings chatting with guests from many different places. Once we even squeezed an entire Australian family with grown up children into the room, because they were stuck for somewhere to stay! Brilliant fun!
We look forward to making new friends, exploring new places, and sharing our home with you!
