General Overview

Our town, Monte San Savino is a beautiful Tuscan walled hill town of approximately 500 friendly souls, inside the walls, and a total of 7,000 people in the total Monte San Savino Area. Our house is inside the walls of Monte San Savino in the historic district; we own the top 3 floors of a 15th century building. The ground and first floors are an unused shop and apartment. The front windows look out on the main square and the historic main street, open to pedestrian traffic only. It should be noted that the house is on 3 floors (although the attic is not used except for storage) and any guests should feel comfortable with going upstairs to the bedrooms, and downstairs to exit the building. Monte San Savino is perfectly located: 45 minutes from Siena, Cortona, Montepuliciano, Pienze, 20 minutes from Arezzo and 1 hour by car or less by train from Florence. Closest airport is Florence (1 hour by car) or Rome 3 hours by car. The countryside is totally rural, breathtaking rolling hills with olive groves and vineyards. There is free parking 3 minutes from our house outside the main gate of town. For those with young children, there is a water park "Crocodile" 10 minutes drive from our house..  Please note that we charge a cleaning fee.  This is a second home for us and we are there only in 3 month intervals twice a year.  For that reason we find it more convenient to have our local cleaner take care of cleaning after guests leave.  Also most people would prefer not to spend the end of their holiday vacuuming and wet mopping 2 floors of a house.  We usually charge €80-100 depending on the number of guests and the period of time of the exchange.

Molly & Mark’s house in the old walled city of Monte San Savino was grand and well equipped. It was comfortable and had an excellent kitchen to cook meals. The city offer's churches, museums, restaurants, cafes, bars, and historical points of interest close by. The location in Tuscany allowed us to explore the surrounding area with a rental car, and enjoy castles, olive oil and wine tastings.

Molly and Mark's authentic apartment is located in the medieval center of Monte San Savino. The address is actually closer to house number 61, which caused some confusion upon arrival. You do have to climb a number of stairs to get there, and there are also some steps and staircases inside the apartment itself. The apartment is cozily furnished. There is no TV, though we were able to watch TV on our laptop, which worked fine. There are many good restaurants nearby. From Monte San Savino, we visited Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, Florence, and Siena by car—stunningly beautiful old cities with plenty of sights to see. Communication with Molly was excellent.

If you’re like me and just want to get away from it all in a beautiful place with good food and friendly people then Molly’s place (in the winter) is for you! Charming hill town in Tuscany, pretty much empty in the winter months but the weather was good, the scenery gorgeous and the house has everything you could want and more! I especially liked the fact there wasn’t a tv, who goes to Italy to watch tv anyway? The bed was super comfortable, there are lots of windows looking over charming streets. It is a large apartment but well heated and, most of all, all the personal touches of a well-traveled and well-lived life. Molly was very communicative and helpful and I look forward to hosting her in San Diego soon.
