We love our Victorian home. It has been a well-known home since it was built in 1900, and we have a gorgeous garden with a very varied mix of trees and foliage. We live on a lovely corner on a quiet street in one of the prettiest little towns in America.
This house has been known in the are as "The Purple House" because the previous owners had it painted the gorgeous lavender you see in the photos. When we bought the home in 2018, we considered changing the color of the house, but so many local folks expressed their desire for us to keep the color that we relented and we're so glad we did.
We love our balcony and the 150 year old Silver Maple that towers over our yard, and from which we've hung the boys' rope swing.
In 2020, I uncovered an original brick sidewalk that is from the late 1800's. I added a motorcycle shed built of upcycled barn oak, so that it looked as though it was original to the house.
We've upgraded many of the systems in the house, adding air conditioning when we moved in. Our wraparound porch is also something we appreciate a great deal, and we often have our meals in the open air.
The space
The Master Bedroom is in the front of the house with a bay window and lots of light. We live on a very quiet street (the train goes by about 200 yards away about a dozen times a day, but one gets used to it very quickly and we barely hear it anymore).
We have two sons, 8 and 12, and their bedrooms are of a similar size (approximately 160 square feet) and both have a view of the yard.
We have two bathrooms, one with a shower and tub and one with a shower stall.
The living room/TV room is small, but cozy, and the dining room is much larger and very bright.
The kitchen has an induction stove and twin oven, with an island and stools for less formal dining and get togethers.
Guest access
We have 2 floors, and a staircase with a landing and 2 small stair steps that come off of those.

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood is very quiet, and green. Our street is actually listed as a private driveway, and though the public do use it, it is not busy at all, and very quiet.
Getting to my home
By air, you would fly into Dulles or Baltimore International Airports. Both are about 1:45 minutes drive to our home.
By rail, the Marc Commuter trains from Washington DC travel back and forth in the morning and evenings.
We are about a 2 hour train ride to DC from us.
Nearest airport
Baltimore? Washington International Airport is about 1.5 hours drive from our house, and Dulles about the same.
Getting around
We walk everywhere in our little village. To get to Baltimore, driving is the easiest way. To Washington DC, the commuter trains run every morning and evening.
We are a very small town with lots to do!
