Neighbourhood

We are 200km, a 2 hour drive, from Perth. Bunbury is a great place to explore and relax and is also a wonderful base for seeing the rest of the South West. Our house is just a 5 minute walk to the beach and a 10 minute walk into the centre of Bunbury, making it easy to stroll downtown for coffee, shopping or a meal. Our local beach is patrolled by surf-lifesavers in summer, while the rest of the many miles of white sand are usually pretty much completely empty even in summer. There is always somewhere safe to swim as we don't have big waves or riptides. If you get tired of walking on the beach, there are lots of short walks from our house which take in the views. One of Bunbury's most popular attractions is our "Dolphin Discovery Centre" where you can swim with wild dolphins or go on a boat tour. Bunbury is surrounded by farmland and bush with lots of nice picnic spots, walks (including the Bibbulmun track and the Cape to Cape walk) and several places close by you are guaranteed to see lots of kangaroos. With 3 shopping centres and the extremely popular Bunbury Farmers Market (our exchange partners all love the Farmer's Market - some go there every day - it is HUGE) all within a 15 minute drive (and park at the door) we find this a very convenient location. We are a short drive from the Ferguson Valley, with wineries and breweries, the Wellington Dam forest, beautiful views and Gnomesville. Within an hours drive you can visit Busselton, Yallingup, and Margaret River, famous for wine and surf and a beautiful coastline. Augusta is 90 minutes. Some of our past exchangers have done day or overnight trips to Albany (4 hrs), Walpole to see the Valley of the Giants and the treetop walk, Bridgetown, Manjimup (google Diamond Tree Lookout) or Mandurah.

Getting around

While our house is an easy walk to the beach, supermarket and shops, you will need a car to get to Bunbury from Perth (limited train and bus services are available) and to make the most of your trip and explore the countryside. A car exchange may be possible.
