Neighbourhood

Waihi is located at the southern end of the Coromandel Peninsula. This cute gold mining town is full of understated history! Visit the Waihi museum to learn all about the history of the area. The museum also often has local and travelling art and craft exhibitions. You can also do museum tour. The Waihi Gold Discovery Centre offers mine tour with an interactive experience. If exploring the outdoors is your thing, Waihi and the surrounds boasts many walks and hikes for all walks of life - pack a picnic and check them out! The Martha Mine Pit Rim walkway shows the impressive workings of the open cast mine. The Gilmour Lake and Mill Stream walkway offers a peaceful walk along the replanted banks of the Ohinemuri River. There are many other bush walks and hikes in the area! The Karangehake Gorge showcases natural beauty, with a variety of walks and also a highlight on the Hauraki Rail Trail which takes you along 197km of cycle trail traversing through trail towns of Kaiaua, Thames, Paeroa, Waihi, Waikino, Karangahake Gorge, Te Aroha and Matamata. The house is just a 10min drive to Waihi Beach, a beautiful spot all year round, full of cute cafes and restaurants. Check out the Waihi Beach Sunday farmers market for lots of locally made goodies! Drive just 20mins over the hill and you're in the Coromandel!

Getting to my home

Just a short drive from Auckland (1hr 45mins), or if travelling from elsewhere it's a gateway to many places - Hamilton (1hr 20mins), Rotorua (2hrs), Coromandel (20mins), Tauranga (1hr).

Nearest airport

Hamilton- 1hr 15mins Auckland - 1hr 45mins

Getting around

Whilst you can walk around, the only public transport routes are to main centres so a car would be most useful to explore the area. The closest supermarket is just a few mins drive down the road.
