General overview
Our home is the last on the street in a quiet village about 20 minutes drive from the centre of Granada. Situated at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada the house backs onto vast countryside and has breathtaking views of the mountains and the city. We are 45 minute drive to the beaches of the Costa Tropical and in an hour you can be on the Costa del Sol, both very easy for a day trip. For guests interested in skiing in winter, the ski resort is 45 minutes away. The surrounding countryside has some truly amazing hiking trails and beauty spots to explore.
The space
The house itself is large, with a private pool and a big garden with fruit trees and lots of natural shade. The main living area has a diner style kitchen and patio doors open to the pool and terrace. On the same floor we have a playroom full of toys, a spare room with a double sofa bed and a bathroom.
Upstairs there is another bathroom and two double bedrooms with balconies, 2 kids rooms (one with bunk beds) and an office space.
The house is fairly rustic in style with terracota tiles and wooden window frames typical to Andalucía.
We have a very good quality internet connection for those hoping for a working holiday.
Guest access
The house has 3 floors. The basement we primarily use for storage but it also houses the washing machine and the pump for the swimming pool.
Notes
We are looking for guests who are happy to feed and cuddle our cat, Luska and water the plants and garden when necessary. For summer stays we will arrange for pool maintenance during your stay for a nominal weekly fee paid directly to the pool company.
A car is essential as we are not comfortable walking distance to many amenities, especially in the heat of the summer.

Neighbourhood
We live on the edge of the village on a very quiet residential street surrounded by breathtaking countryside. Our village, Gojar, has a few local shops, post office, bank, pharmacy etc and several play parks. The villages of La Zubia and Ogijares are a bit bigger and can be reached by car in a matter of minutes, here you will find supermarkets and municipal swimming pools. Ogijares also has a brand new “pump track” bike park, which even very young children can enjoy.
During the end of the summer months the local villages host the “Fiestas del Pueblo” these are free to attend and consist of music and events for the children. The various municipalities frequently host community events throughout the year, particularly during national or state wide holidays.
The pretty village of Monachil is also close by. Here you will find lots of nice places to eat with a bohemian vibe, and the famous hiking route Los Cahorros.
Granada city is just twenty minutes drive away. There are also buses to the centre from the villages but these can be unreliable.
The Alhambra palace is Granada’s best attraction and it is not to be missed if you haven’t been before. Aside from the Alhambra, Granada is famous for its tapas culture and you can expect free tapas to come with drinks in the vast majority of bars and restaurants, not just in the city but the whole province.
Granada is also home to a Science Park which is an absolute must for families with children. There are many interactive exhibits, an aquarium and Biodome with animals and a planetarium.
During the winter months the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada can be reached in just 45 minutes. When there is enough snow there are also places where you can go sledding for free. We are happy to lend any guests our sleds and snow gear if it fits, although we don’t own any ski equipment.
One of the main selling points of this unique area is that it is possible to go skiing in the morning and swimming in the sea the same afternoon. The coast can be reached in under an hour and there are many beaches we can recommend. It is very doable as a day trip.
Outside of the summer months the hiking opportunities are endless and the scenery spectacular. During the summer there are several nearby restaurants with swimming pool access. As well as lakes and rivers to cool down in. The cristal clear Rio Dilar is just 20 minutes away and is several degrees cooler in summer, it’s the perfect place to take a picnic.
We are just 10 minutes walk away from the Granada International Montessori School. Which hosts a summer school in July that is open to the public.
Getting to my home
Malaga airport is the most common way to arrive to the area although Granada also has an airport. From Malaga it is possible to get the bus to Granada or hire a car (please note a car is 100% recommended). Granada city also has a bus and a train station.
Getting around
As previously mentioned guests will need their own car, although we could possibly lend an electric bike to one guest.

We are an English couple who have been living in Granada, Spain for the last 6 years. We have two boys aged 5 and 8 and two cats (of indeterminate ages).
We have a globe to spend this summer 2024 between 31st July and 10th August. We would be open to any location that has a lot of family friendly activities especially big vibrant cities or beachside locations. Happy to look after pets and plants.

Part of our garden with almond tree. You can enjoy almonds from September.
This is a tree house my Dad and I built last year. Sadly the kittens have left us. The tree is a fig, we have two fig trees which fruit in August.
That’s our house with the solar panels front right. I think the photo illustrates very well just how epic the nearby scenery is. During the winter months the mountains are covered in snow. We are just 45 minutes from the ski resort and there are also places to take kids sledding if skiing is too much of a commitment!
Kids playroom. You’re children are welcome to play with anything or use our craft supplies.
Double guest room with Sierra Nevada views. The house backs directly on to rolling hills, almond groves and mountains.
First floor balcony with almond groves in the background.
Diner style kitchen that joins the living room. It is equipped with microwave, dishwasher, high quality food processor and an air fryer. There’s no space for the fridge so it’s currently in a corner of the adjoining living room until we are able to do a full kitchen renovation.
Playa Calabajio
These are my cats. Both rescues. The big one on the left is Nacho whose main interests are food and sleep, Luska the kitten is very playful and affectionate.
