General overview
I love the sun streaming across my desk in the morning and the moon rising in the evening – and the gorgeous sunsets I can see from my kitchen and bedroom. I have no vis-à-vis so it feels very private. The apartment has a perfect layout and size (77m2) for one person or a couple in a building with just 10 apartments, friendly neighbors and a leafy back yard. The lively, central neighborhood has lots of restaurants, bars and shops, parks, and the canal. I'm self-employed and have enjoyed working and living here for more than 20 years.
The space
The living room has a divan and lots of books and plants; my office has three desks and tons of light; the bedroom has one large bed, a chest of drawers, and extra storage space. All these rooms have bare wood floors. The eat-in kitchen has a gas stove and oven, fridge, and washing machine. The small bathroom has hand basin, shower, toilet and shelves. There is a second W.C. (toilet and hand basin) next to my office. It is a simple, very comfortable apartment that always gets raves from my visitors and house guests. (This is my first experience swapping.)
Guest access
It is on the fifth floor with no elevator. But I have no trouble going up and down many times a day.
It does not count as "accessible."
Notes
I have a lot of plants that I would like to find in good health when I return.

Neighbourhood
There are five different supermarkets in walking distance, lots of bars and clubs around the corner, and tons of different restaurants and bookstores, three arthouse cinemas and a theater. I'm between a popular park and the Landwehr Canal and in walking distance to lots more green space. My historically multicultural neighborhood is very sought-after and is becoming gentrified but it is not (yet) overrun by tourists. (I'm a housing activist.)
Getting to my home
It takes around an hour and 4.40€ to get to my place from the Berlin International Airport (BER) by metro and suburban train. The Bahnhof Ost (eastern train station) is a 20-minute walk (or a 5-minute walk and 10-minute bus ride). That station is an easy 10-minute-ride from the central station.

Getting around
My place is on the M29 bus line and within walking distance of the U1/U3 and U8 metro lines. I'm glad to make my ladies' city bike available--that's how I always get around--and there are plenty of bike rentals. Many streets have separate bike paths or lanes and I often travel along the canal to reach my appointments
