Our house is located in Poeldijk, 5 minutes away from The Hague.
Good reachable by car and free parking. Busstop is 7 mins walk and one side takes you to The Hague; The otherside to Rotterdam.
Please note that we have a cat, which is very friendly. If you can feed him, that would be great!
Our house/area:
House with 2 floors, with a small garden.
We have 2 toilets and a bathroom.
There are two beds (1.60x200 cm) and there is a small ensuite room where there is room for a baby or a person aerobed. In the living room there is a large sofa; It is also possible to have an extra person sleep there.
The garden has a Loungeset and there is a bbq in the shed, but its under construction, and will get a make over next year.
Nearby (5 minutes walk) there is a large supermarket, a bakery, snack bar, hairdresser and a shop for Chinese food. McDonald's and Burger King are a 5-minute drive away. Neearest busstop 7 mins walk. Free parking in the parking lot next to our house!
The beach is a 6-minute drive or 11 minutes by bike! (Monster and Ter Heide).
At the end of the street there is a small playground and a small petzoo.
Accessible by public transport, but a car is handy. There are 2 bicycles in our shed as standard, which can be used. Open to Exchange cars!
Sightseeing:
The center of The Hague (Palace, Binnenhof etc) is about a 17-minute drive away.
The beach of Scheveningen is about a 20-minute drive away.
The beach of Kijkduin is about a 10-minute drive away.
In a 50-minute drive you can reach Amsterdam, where you can find museums, Dam Square, Vondelpark etc.
Keukenhof is a 45-minute drive away and Utrecht Centre is about a 50-minute drive away.
If you start your week in The Hague, you'll be in a great place to explore both city life and the surrounding Dutch countryside. The Hague is a vibrant city with a rich history and proximity to other must-see destinations in the Netherlands. Here's an itinerary that balances sightseeing, culture, and day trips, with The Hague as your base.
### Day 1: **The Hague**
-**Morning:**
- Arrival at our house, where a nice drink and snack :) guard
Then you can go to The Hague where you can:
- Start with a leisurely stroll through the Binnenhof, the historic center of Dutch politics. Don't miss the **Hofvijver** with its beautiful views of the buildings.
-**Noon:**
- Visit the Mauritshuis, home to Dutch masterpieces from the Golden Age, such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring and works by Rembrandt and Rubens.
- Explore Noordeinde Palace and the surrounding area, where you can also see many chic shops and cafes.
-**Evening:**
- Go to **Scheveningen Beach** for a relaxing evening by the sea. You can stroll along the pier, visit the lighthouse, or enjoy dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants.
- End the evening with a cocktail in one of the stylish bars near the beach.

### Day 2: **Day trip to Delft**
-**Morning:**
- Take a short bus ride (about 15-20 minutes) to **Delft**, a picturesque town famous for its blue pottery and ties to the royal family.
- Visit the **Royal Delft Factory** to learn about the famous Delft Blue pottery and see the artisans at work.
-**Noon:**
- Explore the Nieuwe Kerk, where members of the royal family are buried, and climb the tower for a great view of the city.
- Wander through the charming canals, narrow streets, and market squares. Visit the Vermeer Center to learn about the life and work of the famous painter who was born here.
-**Evening:**
- Have a delicious dinner in one of Delft's cozy restaurants or cafes and return to Poeldijk for the night.

### Day 3: **Day trip to Rotterdam**
-**Morning:**
- Take a bus to **Rotterdam** (about 30-40 minutes from Poeldijk)
- Explore the **Market Hall**, a large indoor market with food stalls and restaurants. Don't miss the striking architecture of the building itself.
- Visit the Cube Houses, a fascinating ensemble of tilted, cube-shaped houses designed by architect Piet Blom.
-**Noon:**
- Take a trip to the **Euromast** for a panoramic view of the city.
- Explore Rotterdam's modern art scene at **Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen** or **Kunsthal**.
-**Evening:**
- Enjoy dinner at one of Rotterdam's trendy restaurants, perhaps near the Witte de Withstraat, known for its vibrant nightlife and street art.
- **Late in the evening:**
- Go back to Poeldijk for the night.

### Day 4: **Day trip to Keukenhof (seasonal) or Leiden**
- **Option 1: Keukenhof Gardens** (best in spring)
- Morning: If you come in spring (mid-March to mid-May), go to Keukenhof (about 40 minutes by train and bus). It is the world's largest flower garden and it is spectacular during the tulip bloom.
- Afternoon: Spend the day wandering through the colorful flower fields and themed gardens. Don't forget to take some pictures with the tulips!
- **Option 2: Leiden** (all year round)
- **Morning:** If you're visiting outside of the tulip season, take a 20-minute train ride to **Leiden**, a charming university town.
- Visit **National Museum of Antiquities**, a museum with fascinating Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts.
-**Noon:**
- Take a cruise through the canals or visit the Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe.
- Wander through the narrow streets, visit the **Leiden American Pilgrim Museum** or just relax in one of the city's nice cafes.

- Return to Poeldijk and have dinner

### Day 5: **Day trip to Giethoorn**

- Take a train and bus combination (about 2-2.5 hours from The Hague) to **Giethoorn**, also known as 'The Venice of the North'. It's a picturesque village with canals instead of roads, and you can rent a boat to explore the city's peaceful waters.
-**Noon:**
- Explore the village by boat or on foot. Wander through the charming streets, enjoy the quaint wooden bridges, and relax by the canals.
- Visit the **Giethoorn Museum** to learn more about the history of this unique village.
-**Evening:**
- Return to The Hague for dinner and a relaxing evening after a day of nature and tranquility.

### Day 6: **Discover The Hague**

- Visit the Gemeentemuseum, known for its collection of works by Mondrian and other modern artists.
- Explore the **Panorama Mesdag**, a stunning 360-degree painting of the seaside town of Scheveningen from the 19th century.

- Take a walk through Madurodam, a miniature park with Dutch sights down to the smallest details. It's fun and educational, great for all ages.
- Or visit **Escher in The Palace** to experience the stunning art of M.C. Escher in a historic palace setting.

### Day 7: **Day trip to Amsterdam or Utrecht**
- **Option 1: Amsterdam**
- **Morning:** Take an early train (about 50 minutes) to **Amsterdam**.
- Visit the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum or the Anne Frank House.
- Explore the charming Jordaan district and the canal belt.
- **Option 2: Utrecht**
- Morning: Or go to Utrecht, about 40 minutes by train. Visit the Dom Tower, stroll along the Oudegracht and explore the historic center.
- Have lunch in one of the nice cafes on the canal.

- Spend the afternoon shopping, exploring museums, or simply wandering the streets of both cities.
-**Evening:**
- Return to The Hague for your last night and reflect on your week of adventures.

### Tips for travelling:
- **Transportation**: The train system in the Netherlands is efficient, so you can easily use it to get to different cities. Consider purchasing an **OV-chipkaart** for convenience in public transport.
- **Weather**: Be prepared for the Dutch weather, which can be unpredictable, especially in winter and spring. Always bring an umbrella or a raincoat!
