General overview

We are happy to offer our family home for your stay in Halifax. What more could you ask for than ocean views, walking distance to city amenities, hiking trails and steps away from the ocean? We are a young, active professional family and hope to share that with your time in Halifax. We live in a mature safe neighbourhood of Halifax which is steps away from the ocean and has a view of the Arm and the Armadale yacht club. We have all the necessary active equipment (bikes, helmets, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, camping/fishing gear, snowboards and more). Let me tell you more…

The space

Mi Casa es su casa, this is our family home, so it will not be perfect, but we will try to make you feel at home. Our home is a sold brick home with a very neat layout inside. On the main floor (ground level), we have an entryway, dining room, large living room, office space, and a large window in the kitchen. We have a full fridge and freezer, all kitchen amenities such as a dishwasher, wine fridge, pot filler, and all your kitchen needs like a slow cooker and waffle maker. Our living room has a large TV and as many board games as you can imagine including ping pong, fort equipment, nerf guns, and games. Our office area overlooks the ocean and backyard with a walking treadmill and tons of crafts. Lastly, we hope to add a bathroom on this floor, so you can ask if it's ready. Off the kitchen is our covered porch with seating, fireplace, BBQ, and a view of the ocean filled with sailboats from the yacht club across the arm. Wrap yourself in a cozy blanket and enjoy on the deck or snuggled up on the sofa in front of the fire. We also have string lighting to the trees for games at night. We have a huge backyard with trees and a garden. We have a large, netted trampoline, yard games and a paved area for sports. Our house is South-facing, so the sunsets are spectacular. Our upper floor consists of a full bathroom and 4 large bedrooms. We have a king-size bed with a large TV, which is great for family movies. We have one bedroom with a crib and day bed that converts to a queen. The other two rooms have two single beds each (a total of four single beds), each room with a desk. Additionally, a highlight of this floor is a big balcony overlooking the ocean, which is great for sipping coffee, doing Yoga, watching sailboats or gazing at the stairs. We have a 4th-floor attic area that we are updating for a 5th bedroom/rec room area. Our basement has a walk-out to our covered garage that stores many bikes and active equipment (bikes, helmets, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, camping/fishing gear, snowboards and more). Because we have so many kids, we have 5 of everything and many different sizes. Downstairs, we have a huge Gym with lots of cardio equipment and free weights; we also have laundry and a rough-in bathroom.

Guest access

4 full floors with stairs, walk in at ground level, and walk out at basement level

Notes

We are a pet-friendly house and would require smoking outside. Safety First, in our house, we have smoke alarms, house alarms, fire extinguishers and an AED machine in the gym. Lastly, we have a large, paved driveway and a car that could be used on request. If you have any questions about our home, let us know.

Neighbourhood

Our Neighborhood We live in a mature, safe area on the downtown peninsula of Halifax. We are on the Southwest arm, steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. We have paved sidewalks and parks very close. We are within walking distance of most if not all city amenities such as cafes, restaurants, gyms, indoor climbing, shopping, and cinemas. PARKS: We are a 5-minute walk to the left of Horseshoe Park and Flynn Park and a 2-3 min walk to Conrose Park, which has St. Mary’s boat club and tennis courts. Our kids will go fishing at the boat launch on Jubilee Road, a 2-minute walk from our house. We also have a private country club membership to the Waegwoltic Club with many more amenities. HIKES: Our favourite outdoor trails that are 5 minutes away are Dingle Bell Park (we often canoe over in 30 minutes to have a picnic and a hike), Long Lark Provincial Park, and beautiful hiking trails. In the south end of Halifax is Point Pleasant Park, which had on and off-leash dog hiking and biking along the ocean. BIKING: The Rails to Trails are 5 mins from our house and have over 150 km of trails with coffee shops along the way. Additionally, The Salt March trail is 150KM the other direction that is along the ocean. If you are more of a mountain biker, Osprey Trailhead has the most unique rocky training we have seen, more for experienced bikers. BEACHES: Nova Scotia is home to beautiful white sandy beaches. The closest one is 5 minutes down the road at Horseshoe Park. But if you want to make an afternoon out of it, there are many to pick. Crystal Crescent is beautiful and has many hiking trails but has colder water. Rainbow Haven is the warmest water, and our favorite due to the sand bars. If you’re a surfer, just go ten more minutes down the road, and you will be at Lawerence Town Beach, some of the best surfing in Nova Scotia. Our City Halifax is a diverse, young, and safe city. It is one of the oldest in Canada, so there is a lot of history. We have many museums for all ages, such as Natural History, the Atlantic with the Halifax explosion and the Titanic, Cidal Hill, and the Discovery Center. Halifax is young as well. We have the most Universities per capita (Dalhousie, St. Mary’s, Mount St Vincent, Kings, NSCAD). We have a vibrant restaurant, pubs, and cocktail scene; if you like to dance, there are also many options. We have Neptune Theatre and Shakespeare by the Sea, where you can watch plays in the park. Our house is within walking distance of the Halifax Shopping Center and other services, such as groceries. Our favourite part of Halifax is walking the waterfront; there is restaurant shopping, fishing, dancing, entertainment and more. Our Provence Due to the historic nature of Nova Scotia, it has a rich history that makes exploring easy. The south shore is great for exploring small villages, a lighthouse (Peggy’s Cove – is world-famous), cottages and beaches. 40 mins towards the Bay of Fundy, you will see the world's largest and fastest tides and some of the best wine and cider in Canada. If you are here in the winter, there are also two ski hills, Wentworth and Martock. Additionally, Cape Breton, with world-known hiking and the Cabot Trail, is only a short drive away. Lastly, since you are here, you belong to the Maritimes, known for their friendly and easy-going nature. You will learn to slow down and relax in this Provence. The maritime consists of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Labrador. If you get the opportunity, take a trip to one of the other Maritime provinces or Nova Scotia’s Northern Island, Cape Breton. Whatever you are here for, we have you covered, and we hope you fall in love with our East Coast culture and land.

Bruce

We are an active young and professional family, who is looking to travel. Due to us finishing school (medicine and law) and having a large family, we are hoping to save on accommodations (do a swap) and meet some like-minded people. We are an easy-going, adventurous and loving family. Don’t think you can house us? We are not worried about size, 1-2 bedrooms is all we need. We are used to camping and hotels and tend to spend most of our time outside exploring and seeing the culture. So we don’t need anything big or fancy despite the size of our family. Our focus is on making memories, building community, learning the culture and having an experience. We would also be interested in coming to child care/work/volunteering for accommodation to have a new experience, we have house sat/babysat as well and have all the qualifications needed. We look forward to travelling, exploring and meeting new people, so feel free to reach out and ask us questions.
