Our one bedroom modern, minimalist townhome is located in a quiet, gated community within a 10 minute drive of the Historico Centro and all the modern amenities of the North. Its an easy, short walk to the local park, market, grocery store and small traditional cocina economicas and food stands. Uber and local transit are readily available.
Home finishes feature concrete and chukum, accented with traditional pasta tiles reminiscent of the glory days of the Henequen industry. Interesting decorative details are hand-crafted from local potters and weavers.
10 foot ceilings and an open plan main floor consists of a fully equipped kitchen, half bath, breakfast bar and sitting area. A large custom corner sofa, side chair and coffee table provide a comfortable space for relaxing. Floor to ceiling patio doors let in plenty of natural light and lead onto a small private walled patio with a petite plunge pool for cooling off after a day spent exploring the many sites.
The second floor boasts a large bedroom, a walk-in dressing room and walk-in shower. Relax in a four poster king-sized bed with high end mattress for a very comfortable nights sleep. A large screen smart TV is installed and high speed internet is connected throughout the house. Air conditioning is equipped on both levels.

We are retired Canadian snowbirds, splitting our time between our summer home in Canada and our winter home in sunny Merida, Yucatan Mexico. Merida is a gorgeous colonial city rich in history, culture and arts. Merida has been nominated by Conde Nast Traveller several years in a row as one of the top 5 cities to visit and has been rated as one of the safest cities in North America.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
Take a carriage ride and see the sights of the Historico Centro.
The beautiful church in Plaza Grande is the second oldest church in the Central America/Caribbean world. See the video mapping light show every Friday night at 8pm. Explore the many artisans and local food vendors in the park across the street. Dine under the stars at Picheta Rooftop Restaurant, or a couple of blocks away in Parque Santa Lucia.
The Casas Gemelas or the twin houses form the top of the famous Paseo de Montejo and the amazing architectural journey found on this street. The mansions were built during the boom of the henequen industry when local hacienda owners bought up streetside properties in the late 1800’s along the lookalike Champs d’Elysses.
Within an hours drive of the city, visit the many Mayan Ruin sites. Uxmal, Mayapan, Ake, Dzibilchaltun, Xtampu and more! Chichen Itza is a little further at an hour and 40 minutes.
Take a drive to the sleepy beach town of Celstun and enjoy a tour of the Mangroves and as many as 35,000 flamingos.
The Yucatan is home to over 6000 cenotes. Within an hours drive of the city, or less, enjoy well maintained tourist sites or completely wild and off the beaten path cenotes.
The beaches of the Yucatan are located on the Gulf of Mexico. These beaches are largely unspoiled by big commercialism and are mainly sleepy beach towns. 30 minutes from our home you will land in Chelem where I recommend Pig Beach. After a dip and some pig petting head a few minutes further to our favourite beach Chuburna Dunes, as seen in this photo.
The Henequen Boom years from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s made Merida one of the worlds richest cities. There are hundreds of haciendas still standing today ready to be explored. Some are in a state of ruin, some partially or completely restored. A fascinating look back on the production of henequen, the green gold.
Hacienda Yaxcopoil, a 40 minute drive is a restored hacienda open to visitors. 20 minutes away from Yaxcopoil visit Hacienda Uayalceh or book a tour at the must see Hacienda and Cenote experience at Mucuyche.
One of the many hundreds of historical mansions lining the streets of Merida.
Dine Al Fresco, in so many beautiful restaurants all over the city.
