General Overview

Want to visit Chicago but stay away from the hustle and bustle? Super safe suburb with tons to do with kiddos and an easy train ride to Chicago for explorations (35 minutes if you catch an express or an hour on the local). Happy to also loan you our car. We would love to welcome you to our spacious, cozy home & lovely backyard with lots of trees, a treehouse & fire pit!

The Space

We purchased our house in February 2023 and have been turning it into a home of love and laughter with never-ending house projects ever since! It is spacious, airy and very comfortable with lots of books and plants. A large entryway brings you to the first floor where we have a guest room (with two queen beds) and an attached bathroom with shower. The ground floor also has a functional laundry room and the family room with a fireplace (currently not in use), huge couch, large tv with streaming services, and double doors that open to an outside covered pergola living space with couches and a gas fire pit. Five or so steps up is the main living floor which includes a sitting room, dining table that can seat up to 12 with a leaf, kitchen and breakfast nook. We have a double oven and gas stovetop as well as dishwasher. It is well-stocked and easy to cook in as we use it for almost every meal! The breakfast nook might be my favorite spot - it gets great sunshine in the morning and french doors look onto the expansive backyard (a double lot with lots of room to play!). On the top floor about eight stairs up are four bedrooms, including: two used as offices with monitors and desks (one also serves double-duty as a homeschooling classroom), one with two twin beds, shared by our two little boys, and a large primary room with a king bed (and a mattress topper that guarantees happy sleep!). The primary has an attached large bathroom with both a jetted bathtub and standing shower and there is also a kids bathroom with a tub. In the basement is a dedicated kids play/hangout spot and some workout equipment, including a peloton. The backyard has a large deck with table and chairs for al fresco dining and a big tree house with slides, swings, and a rock climbing wall. There's plenty of room to run as well as a wood-burning campfire with Adirondack chairs. It's our happy place :) IDEAS FOR THINGS TO DO: - 15/20 min walk to downtown Naperville, check out the river walk & paddle boats, do some shopping (favorite bookstore is Anderson's), and grab a coffee at Sparrow / drink at Santo Cielo or 64 Wine Bar & Kitchen / dinner at Vasili's or Gia Mia. Finish with ice cream at Jeni's -If you're with little ones, check out downtown Naperville's DuPage Children's Museum, Naper Settlement (learn how they lived back in the day!) or Jaycees playground at the Riverwalk. Centennial Beach is great for a hot summer day & Rotary hill has sledding in the winter, plus a public ice skating rink! -Feeling relaxed but hungry? Walk ten minutes/five blocks to Mesa Sabika, a fantastic Tapas restaurant with a beautiful patio & great sangria! -In the mood to explore? Check out the beautiful Morton Arboretum (20 min drive). GREAT children's garden & miles of trails to explore. Good restaurant too & lots of events. -Hike or bike the 10 mile trail at the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve (20 minutes) OR just go to the waterfall & take a dip in a great swimming hole!

Guest Access

4 floors, several sets of half stairs (5-8 steps).

Notes

We have two kitties who live in the home. We are often able to have them stay with family if needed but the home is cat-friendly. A cleaner comes every two weeks so the cat hair is kept to a minimum but it still probably wouldn't be the best spot if you're allergic!

Neighbourhood

We are in a super safe, classic Midwest suburb with large yards & friendly neighbors walking their dogs. That said, we picked this home because of it's walkability score (for the Midwest, anyway...and location to grandparents!). Our home is a 10 minute walk to the DuPage river green space and riverwalk with playgrounds, a lake for paddle boarding, large hill for picnics (or sledding!) and the central library. If you walk for another 5-10 minutes you are in the lively Naperville downtown area with many shops and restaurants. The train station is 15 minutes further (45 minute walk / 10 minute drive / 20 min bike ride). Getting to my home

Car service is the easiest way to get here from either airport and we can recommend one, it typically costs around $100. If we are here and have enough space in the car, happy to grab you. You can also get here by train but it would take longer and still involve at least a 45 min walk or a 10 min uber. We can help coordinate or brainstorm!

Nearest airport

The home is an hour from Chicago O'Hare airport and 45 minutes from Chicago midway.

Getting Around

We love to walk or bike the neighborhoods but cars are good for getting to the grocery store (2 miles away) and going further afield. You're welcome to use ours - we have a 2018 subaru crosstrek and a 2017 toyota prius.
