Neighbourhood
We think our location is pretty perfect if you’d like to explore the beauty and diversity of Denmark. Our little “ranch” has been in our family for seven generations, and we absolutely love the peaceful countryside setting — while still being within easy reach of Copenhagen and many of North Zealand’s highlights.
There is so much to explore nearby: beaches, forests, lakes, castles and royal gardens — many of them just 10–15 minutes away. We could keep going! 😊
Copenhagen is easy to reach, taking around 30 minutes by car, or you can take the train from Kokkedal Station.
North Zealand is known for its beautiful nature, with forests, beaches and lakes all around. Esrum Lake, just 9 km away, is a wonderful place to spend a day outdoors, and you can rent kayaks, paddleboards and canoes there.
There are also several lovely beaches nearby, with Nivå Strand being the closest, just 5 km away.
We are also close to Helsingør (Elsinore), where you can visit Kronborg Castle, famously associated with Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and the excellent M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark. You can also simply wander through the charming old town, with its cafés, restaurants and independent shops.
Fredensborg Palace Gardens are only 8 km away. The palace is one of the Danish royal family’s summer residences, and in July, visitors have the special opportunity to explore parts of the palace gardens that are otherwise closed to the public.
And just a 15-minute drive away is Hillerød, home to the magnificent Frederiksborg Castle and its beautiful Palace Gardens.
Whether you’re looking for nature, history, culture, beaches or city life, there is plenty to discover right on our doorstep — and our home makes a peaceful base to come back to after a day of exploring.
Nearest airport
Copenhagen Airport Kastrup.
About 35-40 min. by car, or 50 min. with train.
Getting Around
When getting around here, it is best to have a car. There are buses going around, so it is certainly possible to manage without one, but the easiest way is by car.
We have some bikes you can borrow if you want to take a ride in the countryside.
If we are doing simultaneous swap, we could certainly do car swapping as well. We have a Toyota, that can fit 7 people (or 5 with luggage)
The nearest train station is Kokkedal St.
The nearest busstops are "Tranegård" (Route 375R going between Rungsted Kyst and Hillerød train stations)
or "Vejenbrødvej" (Route 365R between Kokkedal and Fredensborg train stations).
If you take either of those buses in the southbound direction, you can hop off at "Fredensborg Rådhus", and switch to other bus lines.

Ingileif
We are a Danish/Icelandic family of 5. Michael, 54, astrophysisist and highschool teacher. Ingileif, 50, medical secretary at a general pracitioner. Julius 20 y.o. (who currently studies in Iceland), Ulrik 15 y.o. and Lauritz 8 y.o.
We like to travel. Most of our holidays have been to Iceland, as Ingileif comes from Iceland, and we have often exchanged houses and cars with people in Iceland with great success. Ingileif has also lived in The Netherlands and in Belgium, as well as in Sweden.
Now we want to broaden our horizon as a family and see the world as PLU'ers.
Note, that we have 2 easy going cats that need to be fed.
