General overview

***Not currently hosting**** The Heights is a historic neighborhood in the center of Houston. Most homes are about 100 yrs old and you’ll find a mix of small bungalows and grand Queen Anne’s. The neighborhood is very leafy with beautiful old oak trees shading many of the streets. The area is very walkable and friendly. My house is located within an easy walk (5-10 min) to about a dozen restaurants, cafes and coffee shops.

Neighbourhood

Great food! Charming homes. Gorgeous trees. Friendly neighbors. The Heights has a small town feel in the middle of the big city. Almost anything you could want - fabulous food, world class performing arts, shopping, art galleries, cinema, parks & green spaces, gyms, etc - is within a 5 minute drive. Downtown is 3 miles. Further afield: The Medical Center is about 10 miles away. The Energy Corridor is about 15 miles. NASA/Clear Lake is about 30 miles. Galveston Beach is about 45 miles.

Getting around

There are several large grocery stores and shops within 2-3 miles. Houston is primarily a driving city but the neighborhood is very walkable and Ubers are plentiful. There is some public transport but it is not ideal.

Valerie

As the daughter of an airline employee I was bit by the travel bug at an early age. I’m pretty much happy to go anywhere, anytime. I’m a software analyst by trade and am lucky to have a job that allows me to work remotely from time to time. There are many destinations on my wish list: S Africa, Tanzania, Vietnam, Most of Eastern Europe. And there are places that I love and return to as often as possible: Italy, France, Spain, Indonesia. I hope to semi-retire in about 8-10 yrs once my son is grown. Many of my trips these days are short stays just to get sense of where I’d like to return for extended periods of time.
