Neighbourhood
The neighborhood is very green, many tree lined streets and quiet roads.
Within five minutes walking you will find yourself at one of two grocery stores, 15 restaurants, half a dozen coffee shops and cafes, including amazing brunch options, 6 bars, day spas, yoga studio, salons, comic houses, book stores, art stores, cinema, live theater venue, schools, a couple churches, music stores, wine bars, food truck pods and more.
Located at the edge of the industrial area and inner SE Portland, our neighborhood is known as Abernathy, and we border the Brooklyn and Laurelhurst neighborhoods, all within 5 minutes of here.
There are 5 parks that surround us, in less than a 10 minute walk, with four of five having kids play equipment and includes the famous Ladd Circle Park & Rose Garden.
You may hear the train in the distance periodically, a low hum. Powell Blvd is a major street a block away that leads to the Powell Bridge which takes you over to the West side of Portland within 5 minutes.
This is an established neighborhood of Portland, where neighbors are friendly and helpful.
Nearest airport
PDX Airport is an easy 20 minute drive or 45 minute by public train/bus.
Getting around
Many bike routes to get you safely from one side of the city to the other.
For car drivers, it’s an easy 5 minute drive from my home to access Interstate-5.
The closest bus lines are bus 70 running N/S and bus FX2, running E/W, a 2 and 5 minute walk respectively. The train is a 10 minute walk away.
Powell Blvd is a block south and Division is the nearest main road north.
Bars, restaurants, coffee shops and shopping are all within walking distance, though I’d recommend biking it really is a great way to explore the city.
A major bike road is only 3 blocks north of us.

Kate
We travel as a family of four, two adults and two kids, aged 8 and 6. If the location is semi-close we’d love to bring our golden retriever, but it’s not necessary. We’re flexible to leaving her at home with you or letting her stay with friends.
We have experience and happy to take care of cats, dogs, fish, reptiles and other creatures during our stay and will treat your home with respect as if it’s our own.
We have excellent references, through another travel site called Coursurfing. We have been active in that community and hosted numerous travelers over the years in our home and also have been the grateful recipients of other’s hospitality while staying at their homes, both state side and abroad.
Kate has lived and worked outside of the US in the early 2000’s, mostly in Asia and South America. Tom has a lot of experience with traveling in Mexico and speaks Spanish.
We are flexible on our travel dates, and places to travel to, even though we don’t have any listed on the calendar, just enquire, if we can make last minute arrangements we will.
We’ve lived in Portland for 15 years and have a good pulse on where to go, what to do and see based on your general interests.
Kate has a background in estate management/hotels/hospitality/ turned acupuncturist and bodyworker, running her own business in inner SE and Tom a long time sales associate working with LG Electronics.
The kids attend Portland Montessori School, and love reading, riding bikes and making up silly songs. Our family loves adventure and exploring new places. Tom is passionate about history, and photography. Kate is passionate about quantum science and understanding the natural physical world.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
