Portland, also known as PDX, Bridgetown, Rip City, and City of Roses, is a modern and vibrant city with a "chill" vibe where one can easily access anything you need within a 30 minute drive. Public transit is good through the city core but driving and parking is fairly efficient too with our 2 vehicles available for exchange.
Named by National Geographic as one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world, famous Cannon Beach is just a day trip away. Ecola State Park is just north of this quaint seaside town. We can recommend an excellent fish'n'chips and chowder place and our favorite uncrowded beach there.
Famous Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach.
Beautiful waterfalls abound in Oregon, including 7 easily accessible along the Columbia River Gorge and the stunning Ten Falls hike at Silver Falls State Park where you can hike behind 3 of them---both about a 1 hr. drive from our home. Here is a great driving tour guide of the Columbia River Gorge waterfalls.

Our favorite Columbia River Gorge waterfall---Bridal Veil Falls. This one is a short hike off the Scenic Byway Highway 30.
Explore beautiful 410-acre Washington Park where the Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, International Rose Test Garden, World Forestry Center, and Japanese Gardens reside. Just 30 minutes from our home, a free shuttle can take you all through the park. There are miles and miles of hiking here as well as in Forest Park which connects to the north--another 5200 acres of protected, dense temperate rainforest to explore.
Hundreds of miles of pristine and wild coastline for you to explore.
Plenty of great places to hike and explore at Beverly Beach, Depoe Bay, and Devil's Punch Bowl. This area has both long sandy beaches for swimming AND temperate forest lined cliffs that falls beautifully into a rocky ocean. Something for everyone!
The Oregon coast is dotted with 11 picturesque lighthouses, each complete with a unique history and built to endure the centuries. The closest ones to our home are Yaquina Head and Tillamook Rock, both within a 2-hr drive and surrounded by more pristine and wild Oregon coastline.
