We live on a bay on beautiful Whidbey Island, Wa in the stunning Pacific Northwest. We are in easy driving distance of many National Parks (Olympics, Mt. Rainier, etc.) Seattle, (frequently go there for city exploring/events), Vancouver, British Columbia. We are within easy driving distance of the San Juan Islands and the Cascade Mountains. Whidbey Island is known for its resident artisans, and gorgeous walking beaches, kayaking spots, etc. There is much to see and explore!
The space
Our home is approx. 2,500sq ft., it is all on one level, it faces the bay with spectacular views, it has a large deck on the front so during the months of April - Oct. is a great place to hang out, has nice gardens (our dahlias are particularly beautiful), has custom work throughout the home because Rob is an architect and then cabinet maker and loves personalizing the space.
Guest access
Other than the few steps up to the front door (pictured) and the few on the deck (with a banister) it is all on one level - step in showers, grab bars by the toilets - all very user friendly.
Notes
We are neat people, and we take care of our home. We would leave it in a very welcoming condition for your visit, and would expect to return to it in the same way - cleaned, fresh sheets, etc. If something is broken or damaged, by you, as our guests, we would expect a notification via email in a timely fashion so we could address that. Our son lives 10 miles away, so if there is an issue with the home while we are away, he would help us trouble shoot that for speedy resolution. We also have a binder put together that has lots of details about how things work in the home, location of items, places near by to visit, etc. We are experienced exchangers and know from others that this is helpful.

Neighbourhood
We are a ‘beach community’, so you will find other similar homes. There is a grocery store 1 mile from the house (as well as others, close by), our village (Langley) is about 7 miles away and has shops, restaurants, galleries, the Whale Center and other amenities to explore. The town of Freeland is just up the road, Coupeville is the village mid island, and the city of Oak Harbor is at the north end of the island - Deception Pass Bridge at that end, is not to be missed - quite spectacular.
Getting to my home
By air, the closest airport is SEA (Seattle International Airport). There is a shuttle from the airport to the island (google it), and taxi service on the island. A rental car (or in some instances we have arranged to loan our car to guests) is a necessity for getting around. The Mukilteo-Clinton ferry (approx. 144 car spaces - sails every 30 minutes) takes you from the mainland to Whidbey Island. You can drive off the island (no need for the ferry) at the north end. We live on the south end, close to Clinton. Having lived here for over 30 years, taking the ferry is simply a lifestyle for us. The GPS directions to our home is very straight forward - we haven’t lost anyone yet!
Nearest airport
Seattle International is the nearest, Vancouver, BC the next nearest. There is a small regional airport in Everett, which is even closer (Paine field airport) but not many flights to and from. It mostly services Boeing.
Getting around
A car is the best option for getting around. There is so so so much to see in this corner of the world, and we would be happy to help you with suggestions.

We are a retired couple, cabinet maker and school administrator, who love to travel, enjoy natural beauty, our family and friends, projects around our home, painting, reading, and sometimes still, cooking. We love the ‘arts’; concerts, theater and exhibits and try to be diligent about attending/supporting (as best we can). We have three grown/married children and between them, they have blessed us with 5 great grandchildren.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
