Neighbourhood
This neighbourhood was built in the 60s in the middle of the rainforest when this was part of the US controlled Canal Zone. There is only one access road to our community and access is controlled by a security guard. Our neighbourhood has a communal area and large sport field and tennis courts which can be reserved for playing.
Approximately 10 minutes drive from our residential area you find supermarkets, restaurants ,banks and small malls. The largest Mall of Central America is approximately 15 minutes away.
Getting to my home
Panama is (unfortunately) a very car centered society. In weekends people ride bikes for recreational purposes. Having a car available makes travelling in Panama easier. Alternatively, Uber works really well and is very cheap in Panama.
The metro system in the city is clean and cheap. You can take the metro from the airport to the Albrook Terminal. Which is on a 15-minute ride from our home, where you also find the main bus station of Panama, with buses to almost any location in Panama.
Nearest airport
The nearest international airport is Tocumen (PTY). Which is located on the east city of Panama-City. Which is 30 km from our home and takes approximately 30 min without traffic of 50 minutes in heavy traffic. 10 minutes fromour house is another airport which provides flights to destinations within Panama like David & Bocas del Toro.

Maaike & I have been living in Panama City for 5 years. Maaike's work for the United Nations has brought us to various countries where we live a number of years. As our boys have grown up and study overseas, we have an empty nest.
Panama has been a great experience for us. As a biologist I have been very inspired by the amazing biodiversity of this country. It is a paradise for nature lovers and has incredible beaches and islands in both the Caribean & Pacific Ocean. Surfing, hiking, cultural exploration, checking out the canal and birding are all excellent activities in Panama.
