Neighbourhood
Villa Mare Blue is located in a quiet and private gated community overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea.
While there are lots of activities on St. Thomas to keep you engaged when you are not enjoying the calm of Mare Blue, keep in mind that we are only a 5 kilometer ferry ride from the sister island of St. John where 65% of the island is a protected US National Park ready for exploration. The most common activities on both islands are visiting beaches, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, boating and sailing excursions. Our average ocean water temperature is 82 degrees Fahrenheit year round.
Getting to my home
Guests fly to Cyril E. King International Airport. There are six major airlines that fly directly to St. Thomas from several US cities. There are also international airlines that fly to Miami and the nearby island of Puerto Rico that is a short 20 minute plane ride away.
You may take a taxi or safari bus from the airport or rent a car or other two wheeled vehicles to get to the property or around the island. Note: Keep Left. All vehicles are driven on the left side of the road.
Nearest airport
Cyril E. King International Airport (Code STT)
Getting Around
We are less than 1 mile to the best beach on the island and less than a 10 minute taxi ride to downtown sites and shopping. There are 3 restaurant/bars that are about a 15 walk from the property. The property is 200 feet above sea level.
You may take a taxi or safari bus, or rent a car to get around the island.

Stunning, beautiful, and more than we could have wished for
Lauren and Michael’s home on St Thomas was a pleasure in every way, starting with the views and the easy way to relax on the deck after a day at the beach and exploring the island.
We were lucky to be able to meet Michael on our last day and enjoyed our conversation about traveling and our great experiences with PLU
We look forward to hosting Lauren and Michael at our home in Taos. (Or Boulder, listing coming soon) and appreciate their generosity very much
Thanks for sharing Blue Mare with us
What a treat!
We have such fond memories of our stay at your beautiful home last year, and we’ll truly miss staying with you next year. Sorry we didn’t get to see you this time, Lauren—Michael was a wonderful host as always. Best wishes to you both as you settle into your new home.
Michael and Lauren's home overlooking Magen's Bay is stunning! We spent almost a week discovering beaches and could have easily spent another week on this beautiful island! We took the ferry over to St John and Coral Bay and Trunk Bay.
Michael and Lauren's Mare Blue home had all the comforts and was beautifully decorated. We enjoyed returning to their home in the evenings to enjoy their huge deck space overlooking Magen's Bay and the beautiful boats in the bay! Hadd it not been for PLU, I would never have gotten to take such a magical trip. I loved every moment at their PLU and St Thomas!
My daughter and I had a fabulous time at Lauren and Michael’s gorgeous home in St Thomas! I could hardly believe how wonderful this spacious home was - the views alone were breathtaking and the rooms were beautiful, fully equipped with all we could need including coffee makers, beach chairs, beach towels and so much more. Lauren kindly took us on a tour of the high spots on the island - it was lovely having them upstairs to offer advice on where to go. There are ample guidebooks there and Lauren offered advice on restaurants and beaches etc. The closest beautiful beach is just 5 minutes drive away. If you are lucky enough to be offered an exchange with Lauren and Michael, do not hesitate! You’ll need a car - would advise a Jeep! Thank you so much Lauren and Michael, looking forward to hosting you in Marblehead!
Michael and Lauren's house is gorgeous! The interior is cozy and well organized but its strong point is the outdoor space, overlooking the bay it offers you a spectacular view: white beach, sea with a thousand shades of blue, rainbows, full moon. A dream!
And then, what made this holiday special: the kindness, availability, courtesy of Lauren and Michael who, although without intrusiveness, made us part of a "little piece" of their lives. Together we had lunch, we took a boat ride, we celebrated on the beach with their friends the "thank god it's Friday", we shared time chatting.
When we started the home exchange experience, more than 18 years ago, we were looking for just that: yes, of course, to see new places, but also to meet new people and make new friends. Sometimes it has been possible, this is one of those times.
I am sure that with Lauren and Michael we will have the opportunity to meet again.
In the meantime we can only thank them for this wonderful experience.
Our visit to St. Thomas was nothing short of spectacular, and this home exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views—panoramic vistas of Magens Bay Beach stretched out below, framed by stunning sunsets that made us feel like we were on top of the world. The spacious patio, conveniently located off the guest suites, was the perfect place to soak it all in. Every beach day felt like a gift, and we returned home with incredible memories—especially one unforgettable photograph of the brightest double rainbow we’ve ever seen. This stay was pure paradise!
What a wonderful stay in paradise!
Lauren and Michael’s home is on a hill overlooking one of the most beautiful bays and beaches in the Virgin Islands. Our little apartment was comfortable and well-appointed and had everything we needed. The deck was a great place to hang out and view the yachts on the water and the people down on Magens Bay Beach.
We spent several days at that beach, enjoying the peace and quiet when cruise ships were not in port.
We took the car ferry over to St. John to visit the National Park and stayed one night in Cruz Bay. The island is much less built up than St. Thomas and the beaches were spectacular.
Driving around the islands was an interesting challenge – on the left of the narrow, curvy, hilly roads in a left-hand drive car! But people were courteous and gave way.
The best part of the trip was getting to know Lauren and Michael. They were gracious and helpful and we had a fun evening by their pool, watching the sunset and sharing PLU adventure stories and cocktails.
Lauren was an exceptional host! Our time on St. Thomas was absolutely beautiful and unforgettable. The accommodations were pristine, and the view was nothing short of spectacular. If you ever have the chance to stay with Lauren and Michael, don’t hesitate—it’s truly a dream home.
We can’t wait to return the favor and host these wonderful people. This experience perfectly captures the spirit of PLU. Thank you, Lauren and Michael, for your warmth, generosity, and hospitality!
Michael and Lauren’s home was simply magical. We were completely overwhelmed by the view and beautiful setting. The apartments were really comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. We had lots of BBQs watching the sunset and explored many of the Island’s stunning beaches. Michael and Lauren were perfect hosts and went above and beyond to answer all our questions. We had the trip of a lifetime and couldn’t have asked for nicer hosts.
Michael and Lauren’s beautiful home on St. Thomas was our first PLU exchange as guests. Future exchanges are going to have mighty big shoes to fill! The photos don’t begin to do the space justice. It’s very comfortable and stylish, with everything provided for a perfect beach holiday - beach chairs, towels, coolers and ice packs. It was so great not having to pack those things. And the outdoor space will take your breath away, there are views for miles, and Magen’s bay, one of the prettiest beaches in the Caribbean (if not the world) is right at your feet. We could have spent the entire week just on that beach. It has parking, restrooms, and a bar and restaurant. If you go to the far end, you’ll pretty much have the place to yourselves. And the house just a short drive to grocery stores and plenty of good restaurants. Michael is a boat captain, so we were able to arrange a half day boat charter with him, which was the highlight of the trip. We had lunch at Lovango, a gorgeous resort across the water from Cruz Bay, and then snorkeled in some beautiful spots where we saw so much marine life and were able to observe sea turtles up close. Magic!
Lauren and Michael are wonderful exchange partners, communication was excellent and I feel like we’ve made new friends.
We really hope to return to St. Thomas, and we are looking forward to hosting them in Italy later this year. This was everything we hoped for when we joined PLU!
Unfortunately Lauren and Michael had to cancel their visit to Taos so we hope that when their travels take them back to the Land of Enchantment that they will stay with us
We loved hosting Lauren and Michael from the Virgin Islands over Labor Day, they are such delightful, kind, and interesting people – we spent hours talking and laughing together.
Michael spent several hours with my husband sharing his knowledge about athletic shoes and helping him figure out what kind he really needs – such a generous thing to do!
They’re the kind of guests everyone hopes for: thoughtful, curious, open-minded, and full of amazing life stories. It honestly felt like we discovered long-lost cousins. Magic of PLU:) We really hope to meet them again, whether here or in the Virgin Islands!
Lauren and Michael were the perfect PLU visitors - left the house in perfect condition and had even laundered the sheets and towels and left a lovely plant as a gift!
We look forward to future exchanges!
Michael and Lauren we're perfect exchangers! Communication was excellent, and we always felt comfortable talking with them and having them stay at our home. Thank you Michael and Lauren! And we hope to see you soon.
We loved hosting Lauren and Micheal in our Italy home. After having been to their beautiful place in St. Thomas earlier this year, and then exchanging many fun texts and communicating over several months, it felt like we were welcoming friends to stay. Our only regret is that we weren’t there ourselves at the same time! I think we would have had fun cooking and exploring together.
But we’ll look forward to that in the future.
On the practical side, they were perfect guests. Always great communication, they left the place clean and tidy, and gave us a sweet gift. This is why we love PLU!
It was a joy to host Laurent and Micael! We had drinks together and enjoyed getting to know each other. Perfect guests!
Michael and Lauren were perfect hosts. They kept our house as if it were their own. We were lucky enough to meet them and spend a few hours together. We can't wait to visit them in their beautiful residence on Virgin Island
Dear Lauren and Michael,
We had the pleasure of welcoming you to our home while we were away. It was a last-minute exchange and we were traveling in Asia, communication was very good and we managed to have a video call before the exchange. Lauren and Michael left the home spotless. Hope to be able to meet you in person one day.
Michael and Lauren were the perfect exchange partners, and we’re grateful for the friendship that has grown from this experience. Despite our busy schedules, they went out of their way to make us feel truly at home. Their hospitality, insider tips, excursion connections, and introductions to local friends made every moment feel like a VIP experience. Thanks to them, our trip was not only seamless but also unforgettable. We can’t wait to return in the near future!
Sally and Pete are wonderful exchange partners. Sally was very easy to communicate with, was very kind and, as we all hope for, left our suite just as they found it. We really appreciate the care they showed. Don't hesitate to host them and we look forward to someday making it to their home in Taos.
Thanks Lauren
We look forward to hosting you when the time is right
All the best
Pete and Sally
We were so happy to welcome Barbara & Christine back for another wonderful stay. They are kind and thoughtful guests, who left the home in impeccable condition. Life is moving us in different directions, but we hope to see them again in the future.
We really enjoyed our time in Maricopa at this beautiful home! It was spacious and comfortable, and allowed us the rest we needed after a lot of summer travel. Karen was a pleasure to plan with. She was easily accessible and available to answer all of our questions. If you are looking for a place to rest, relax and rejuvenate, this is the perfect place!
This was the first time Michael and I had a hospitality exchange since joining PLU. It will be very difficult to top the experience we had with Mirka and Tomasz. They welcomed us into their beautiful home like we were long lost family, with a warmth and kindness we so appreciated, especially in this increasingly fractured world. We talked for hours over dinners, including a wonderful meal cooked by Mirka on our first night. We are hosting some repeat guests in St. Thomas for a hospitality exchange in November. We will pay it forward with our guests and whenever we have the opportunity, in the spirit of Mirka and Tomasz.
❤️
We had a wonderful stay with Angela. When we signed up with PLU, I don't think we really fully appreciated the strength and beauty of the community. Meeting people like Angela, and developing friendships, all with a love of travel, is really a testament to PLU. Angela's home was perfect and had everything we needed to enjoy Marblehead, We spent our days walking trails, exploring Marblehead and nearby communities and eating A LOT of seafood....eg oysters and lobsters. There is a real pride of community in Marblehead with a lot of history. Highly recommend!
Thank you Lauren for your lovely feedback and for taking such great care of my home and plants. Come back any time!!
Michael and I had a wonderful, relaxing stay in Amber and Luke's home. It was like stepping back in time, as it was a historic home built in 1734. We appreciated the care and attention to detail in restoring their home to include more modern touches. Amber and Luke were easy to communicate with and they left us with all the information we needed for our stay. The surrounding area is also very beautiful. While it is more rural and there are many working farms nearby, there were also villages that had amazing restaurants/farmer's markets and live music. Tanglewood is a short drive, as is Music Mountain. Yo Yo Ma and a jazz trio in the same trip! Thank you Amber and Luke for sharing your beautiful home!
Mike and Lauren
While Michael and I did not have the opportunity to spend time with Melissa and her guests,, we were able to communicate quite extensively prior to their visit. She was kind, pleasant and caring. We really appreciated how spotless both suites were once they departed and the care they clearly took of our home. I would't hesitate to host Melissa.
It was such a pleasure to host Angela and Rosie in our home. They were wonderful guests, from weeks prior when our exchange discussions began, to when they departed. Angela is very responsive to messages and it was lovely to have a conversation prior to share our experiences with PLU and the exchange process. Clearly seasoned travelers, they were self sufficient and did really well navigating St. Thomas. They also left the suites in great condition. We hope to have them back in the very near future.
It is an understatement to say that sharing our home with Laura and Fulvio was a great pleasure. We were very honored that they chose to travel from Florence, Italy to stay with us in St. Thomas, VI. It was amazing to watch how they settled in with ease and navigated the challenges of living on a small island. Communication was always easy and they left our home spotless. They are such warm and kind people. We were fortunate to spend time with them on several occasions boating, dining and cooking. I feel we made friends for a lifetime. When people talk about the "spirit of PLU", this is what Fulvio and Laura represent, an openness and desire to learn about a different culture, to expand ones community. We are so excited to visit them in October in Sassetta for their festival and to create even more wonderful memories (read: learning to bake bread). Can't wait!
We were very happy to have the opportunity to host Craig and Kate in our home in St. Thomas and we really enjoyed spending time with them! When we sadly had to cancel our exchange in England, they so graciously offered us their home in NH. Finally, after many months, we were able to meet them in person. They exemplify all that is special and wonderful about PLU. They are kind, funny, caring and adventurous. They took care of our home like it was their own, which isn't surprising as their home in NH is meticulous. Michael and I know we have made lifelong friends in Craig and Kate.
It was a pleasure to host Pete and Lynn in our home. They have visited many National Parks over the years and we were so glad they were able to check St. John, Vi off their list during their visit! We were able to spend some time getting to know them and one of the great joys of PLU is the opportunity to hear others experiences with the success of the platform, when you can sit and share stories of travels with others, We hope to see them again sometime in CA.
Michael and I couldn't have asked for better exchange partners in Barbara and Christine. It felt like we were welcoming friends that we have known for years and they are clearly seasoned exchange/PLUers. They projected an ease and positivity that made it so wonderful to host them. They cared for our home as if it were their own and they left it in perfect condition. We are excited to possibly visit them in California next year and plan for them to come back to Mare Blue for next year's pickleball tourney. This is exactly what PLU is, the opportunity to meet amazing new people and make friends from all over the world. These two are the best!
Anne and Gregor are wonderful exchange partners. Despite not having the pleasure of meeting them when they visited St. Thomas this past February, I feel like we were staying at our friend's home. Their communication was open, responsive, friendly and warm. We continue to navigate a personal health situation and they couldn't have been more supportive, understanding and flexible.
The home itself it so lovely. It's a wonderful mix of old, historic Italy with modern design features. As someone who loves to cook, I really appreciated that the kitchen had everything, and I mean everything, to make great meals. As they also have a home in North Carolina in the US; this is the first international exchange for us that had some of the kitchen tools seen in American homes, like measuring cups and spoons. Seems so inconsequential, but it meant so much for this non baker to be able make a hazelnut, chocolate cake!
The bed was super comfortable, as was the oversized sofa in the living room. It is a beautiful, warm home in a peaceful and special small town and we hope to return someday.
Julia and Richard are lovely exchange partners. We had a relaxing and incredibly enjoyable time exploring this part of Italy. Gaiole in Chianti is in an ideal location. We did day trips to Siena, Pienza and Cortona. If only we had more time! Julia is a gifted artist and you can see her beautiful design touches all throughout the house and the pictures don't do it justice. I hope we have the opportunity to visit again! Thank you Julia and Richard!
It was so nice to meet Fulvio and Laura upon our arrival. Molto gentile! Since we arrived around lunch time, Laura had prepared a light lunch, which included an absolutely delicious Pappa al Pomodoro. I am definitely going to make this dish. The apartment is well appointed, with everything you need to relax after a long day of visiting Florence. If you love to cook like I do, you can make a wonderful meal. You can get to Florence by walking (which we did several times and got our steps in) or by tram, which couldn't have been easier. There is a very large Coop supermarket just a few minutes from the apartment, and plenty of restaurants to try. We are looking forward to hosting Fulvio and Laura in February. Thank you again!
Grazie ancora!
We had a relaxing, last minute stay at Stine and Massimo's beautiful home. Unfortunately, a health situation resulted in some pivots and changes to our plans and itinerary in Italy, and although they were on holiday in a different timezone, they were very accessible in setting up our exchange. They even made time for a late night phone call to finalize everything. They were very kind and understanding.
The home is in a location, central to everything in Fiesole. It had everything we needed to cook, and had a beautiful outdoor terrace. There was a supermarket around the corner and we were able to take advantage of one of the shows at the festival in the Roman Amphitheater. Thank you Stine and Massimo!
Dear Lauren and Michael,
We had the pleasure of welcoming you to our home while we were away. We’re glad you enjoyed your time in Fiesole and even got to experience the local outdoor theater and town. You left the home spotless, and despite it being a last-minute exchange, "nonna" was very happy with the communication during your stay. We wish you all the best!
Melanie, Nick and Sam were our second exchange guests this year. Michael and I have been so amazed at the wonderful people we have met through this process and they are no exception. For our particular exchange, we allowed for the use of my island Jeep and Melanie insisted that they wash the car and it was kept in excellent condition! We spoke nearly every day for duration of their time in our home and we really appreciated their care and thoughtfulness throughout the exchange process. Michael had the pleasure of meeting them on their last day for lunch, when he traveled home. We hope to see them soon in England.
Unfortunately, we were not able to make it to Nick and Melanie's home as a result of a health emergency. They were so kind in offering for us to come, however, whenever we can in the future. We will definitely take them up on it!
We spent a lovely two weeks in Craig and Kate's home. It was so comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. The location was perfect, just five short minutes to the beach. The home was very spacious with an open floor plan and it was beautifully decorated. Kate was so kind during the planning process, and was accessible whenever we had questions. She was so very kind to work with Michael last minute, to make this exchange happen. We sadly had to cancel an exchange we had in England and stay in the US due to a serious health emergency. It was the best place for me to relax and recover. Close by were great restaurants and supermarkets. We hope we can make it back again! Thank you both so much!
We had the great pleasure of hosting Anne and Gregor in our home recently. It was our first exchange since joining PLU, so we weren't sure what to expect. If all guest experiences are like this, we will gladly continue to host and open our home to others on this platform. They will be a tough act to follow. Typically, when we host any guests, regardless of PLU status, we provide snacks and drinks, and do our very best to make the guest feel welcome and comfortable. We insisted that it was not necessary to replace what we had bought for their stay, but they went shopping anyway. They also cleaned the rooms as if the cleaning people were here. It was a level of caring and thoughtfulness we really appreciated. We look forward to our stay in Monteleone D'orvieto and to keeping in touch with our new friends.
