It is off-grid, completely removed from road noise and immersed in nature. Our home is about 15 minutes by car to the nearest town Motueka where there is a bustling Sunday market, saltwater pools, beach, playgrounds, excellent cafes and restaurants and two supermarkets.
We are surrounded by native, regenerating bush and there are several tracks you can explore from the front doorstep!
35 minutes by car in either direction will take you to either Kahurangi National Park or Abel Tasman National Park. Both offering single- and multi-day hikes. People travel far and wide to these parks and we're lucky enough to explore them anytime we like due to our proximity!
We are about 1.5 hours' drive from Nelson lakes where there is a lovely ski field, ice skating pond and alpine hiking.
The space
The home is relatively open plan with a double storey ceiling that connects all spaces. It has been architecturally designed and timbers hand-selected for floors, walls, ceilings and decks. Each room has its own unique energy and view. Our home is totally private, the only sounds you can hear is the spring-fed stream down below (where our water comes from) and native birds visiting. It's paradise!
Guest access
We have stairs leading up to the house from ground level and more stairs to reach the second storey.

Neighbourhood
Our home is part of an eco-community called Te Manawa. Residents are other 5 families who are very friendly but enjoy their privacy. You can occasionally hear our nearest neighbour constructing their straw-bale house but we all have excellent privacy and quiet.
All of our homes are off-grid and we share duties to maintain the solar panels, check the hydro system and maintain the tracks and road to the home. We are conscious energy-users and have a deep respect for the land.
Getting to my home
A private car is needed to get to our home and around. a 4x4 is best as the driveway is steep but regular cars do the job just fine too, just take it easy!
Nearest airport
Nelson, 40 minutes away by car
Getting around
there is a new electric bus service that operates around Nelson/tasman. The nearest bus stop is in Motueka which you'd need to drive to. It is very cheap ($3 NZD) to get to Richmond where there are shopping malls, a little more to get to Nelson.
