General overview

Quiet semi detached cottage in a private lane on the Essex/Suffolk border with stunning views. Located near Manningtree in the Stour Valley, abutting an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), our cottage .

The space

Country cottage on private lane with own garden and parking; in north Essex with good rail links to London. The cottage is located down a small lane surrounded by fields with grazing sheep. The kitchen diner has bifold doors opening up onto the large patio of a quintessentially English garden with outstanding views. Also, on the ground floor there is a lounge, dining room, study, utility room and WC. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms and one twin, with one family bathroom and toilet. It is a wonderful base to explore the English countryside by foot (a number of long distant walks go through this area), bike (there are 3 bikes available), car or rail. The East Anglian coastline is noted as an important area for migratory birds. There are a number of photographs showing the views from the windows of the different rooms, the gardens and local points of interest.

Guest access

From the lane there are steps leading to the front door and patio, further steps lead to the garden. The bedrooms are located on the first floor.

Neighbourhood

Manningtree - 10 minutes by foot or 5 by car - is a small market town with full range of essential shops, supermarket, petrol station, restaurants and pubs. This "smallest town in England" also has a number of independent food, craft and clothing shops. The cottage has only one neighbour within 200 yards and is surrounded by pasture and woodland looking out across the valley that forms the Essex/Suffolk border. The three major towns in the area (Colchester, Ipswich and Harwich) are each 10 miles away by car or 15 minutes by train from Manningtree.

Getting to my home

There are fast rail links to London, Ipswich and Norwich from the nearby station which is only a 12-minute walk away. Cambridge or Norwich (Norfolk Broads) can be reached by car in 1 hour. The ferry from Harwich (8 miles away) creates easy access to Europe, especially the Netherlands and Amsterdam.

Nearest airport

Stansted is less than an hour away by car, whereas Gatwick and Heathrow are about 2 hours each.

Getting around

A petrol station with convenience store is 5 minutes walk, train station is 12 and Manningtree town centre is 15. The A12, main road to London, Ipswich and Norwich is 15 minutes away by car.
