Nearest airport
Charlotte airport is 9 miles, usually about 20 minutes, away.
Getting around
We are less than 10 minutes from all of the usual grocery stores and shops you might need. We are open to considering a vehicle exchange but would need to talk further details about that.
Within 10 minutes of our home you will find several cute towns, including McAdenville, otherwise known as Christmastown USA which is beautifully lit for Christmas. Belmont is another adorable town with delicious restaurants, coffee shops, a brand new bookstore, and a park in the middle middle of town for the kids to run around and play.
Uptown Charlotte is only 20-25 minutes away and has some thing for everyone! Amazing restaurants, museums, professional sports teams, bike trails, and just about anything else you want in a big city!
We frequently take day trips to the mountains to swim in the summer, to pick apples in the fall, or to play in the snow in the winter and early spring. Several awesome mountain towns are 1.5-2 hour drive.
If you prefer the beach, you can have your toes in the sand within 3 1/2 hours on the coast of north or South Carolina, including everyone’s favorite culinary destination, Charleston!

We spent 5 days in this beautiful home with an adorable add-on family member (their sweet dog "Louie"). Bethany and Allen had wonderful communication from the very beginning and did everything possible to make us feel at home. The home is modern, spacious, and situated on a gorgeous property complete with a play structure, trampoline, zip line, and a creek. The house is close to stores, restaurants, nature outings, and only 25 minutes to Charlotte, NC. We feel like "old friends" now and I can't wait to have them at our home in the future. I highly recommend this home and the family.
Bethany and her family have felt like long lost friends from the first time we chatted. They have always been so easy to communicate with. Having them come to my house was such a special treat for us! We knew our home was in good hands. Bethany and her family took great care of our home and left it exactly as they found it. It was wonderful coming home to a clean home ready to welcome us. I would recommend them 100% as guests!
Bethany and her family were such great guests who took amazing care of our house! We loved seeing pictures of their trip and hearing about their favorite stops along the way. ❤️
We would absolutely exchange with Bethany and Allen again!
Our stay at Gabrielle‘s home was absolutely lovely. I have so much I could say about how much we loved this experience!
From start to finish, the exchange process with Gabrielle was smooth, friendly, and very efficient. Gabby was always readily available by phone for any questions we had and was extremely helpful and accommodating when we had a couple of specific requests.
Their home was in very clean and very inviting condition when we arrived, and all of the information about how to access everything was very clear. Our kids immediately wanted to run around the house and look at all of the rooms with excitement! My husband and I really enjoyed watching a movie in the home theater after our kids were in bed, and my oldest son enjoyed the chance to play video games he doesn’t have at home.
My daughter enjoyed all of the toys in Gabbys daughters room, And the Koi pond was a hit for everyone. My kids fought over who got to feed the fish every day! I sat on the screened in porch every chance I got to enjoy the peace and beauty of their backyard.
Our favorite activity was walking down to the lake and taking the kayaks into the water. We used two adult kayaks and one child kayak to accommodate our family of five (With Three young kids), And we spent hours paddling around, swimming, fishing, skipping rocks, and just generally enjoying a slow summer day in the water. There was more than enough water equipment and lifejackets to go around! You will want to plan to have two strong adults available to take the adult size kayaks up and down the hill, but if you are up for a physical challenge then it’s definitely doable! We actually appreciated the extra exercise!
Gabby‘s list of recommendations on Google Maps was very helpful, and we enjoyed an ice cream spot from her recommendations, and a delicious Mexican restaurant! We checked out a park in downtown Canton, and relaxed in the shade reading some books together from the free little library box.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend a stay at this family’s home. There is so much to do and I can guarantee you that you will not get bored! Gabby and her family feel like old friends at this point and we hope to meet in real life one day!
Kyle and Ashley were truly the most warm, welcoming, and lovely host! Our family of five, including three young kids, really adored the condo in Banner Elk, North Carolina. The natural light coming through the floor to ceiling windows was so beautiful and my husband and I could not stop talking about the beautiful views. Every inch of this space was tastefully decorated, and the Kitchen was perfectly equipped for everything we needed to do.
The trip to Grandfather Mountain was the highlight of our time in Banner Elk! We were there in May, and the flowers blooming all over the mountain made the hikes feel truly fairytale-like. Definitely bring a windbreaker if you’re going to climb up to the mile high bridge…the gusts are impressive! We loved seeing the native animals being cared for in the wildlife exhibit, and got up close and personal with a bear!
The town of Banner Elk is so charming and has so many quaint restaurants and shops. Our kids loved Tate Evans Park and we easily passed a couple of hours there in the afternoon when we first arrived. They kept begging to go back! We also loved Valle Crucis park.
Unfortunately illness swept through our family towards the end of our visit and we did not get to explore as much as we wanted to after that, but we are itching to go back.
Returning to the condo after exploring was so refreshing. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the Internet connection was great, and my husband and I loved unwinding on the porch after the kids were in bed with a glass of wine and a dessert from the Banner Elk Café!
We met a couple from the Netherlands on grandfather Mountain that was spending 12 days in the United States, and they were spending all 12 of those days in western North Carolina…that should give you an idea of how many beautiful things there are to explore in this area! Reach out to Kyle and Ashley if you are considering a visit to the NC mountains…you will not regret it!
Gabrielle and her family were such wonderful guests in our home! She was wonderful to communicate with from start to finish throughout her visit. When we arrived home, you could not even tell anyone had been here, she left it in such pristine condition! Gabrielle and her family were very committed to taking care of our home and even our sweet puppy dog for us while we were away. I highly recommend this family as a visitor at anyone’s home and would be willing to have them back at my home at any time!
