General Overview
Our home is a 115-year-old bungalow, lovingly cared for and updated, decorated with eclectic art. Our main focus over the years has been to create a warm, welcoming, inspiring place to spend our days.
Landscaping around the house can be described as "urban wild." We are more interested in habitat for local fauna than in manicured spaces. So, trees, flowers, plants, vegetable garden, grape vine, raspberry bushes abound.
The Space
The main floor consists of a great room with living/dining areas, including a wood-burning stove; a kitchen with extra seating area; the main double bedroom; full bath; and an office area.
Upstairs there's a large double bedroom and full bath, along with a large landing with big built-in bookshelf (overflowing with all manner of books).
In the basement are two double bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, utility/laundry room, and storage area. One of the bedrooms is more organized/designed as a den, with TV, DVDs, kids toys and books, but there is a large comfortable pull-out couch which sleeps two.
The back garden is well-equipped for fair-weather meals and gatherings, with BBQ, table, hanging chairs and a firepit.
The full front porch sits up off the street and is a wonderful spot to sit with coffee, glass of wine, or a book, watching and greeting neighbors and dogs and birds.
Guest Access
Three floors, stairs between each. Stairs up to the front porch, and again down to the back garden.
Notes
We do have animals! A 5+/- year old dog, husky/basset hound/etc. mix, very friendly and smart, and an affectionate, playful 2-year-old cat.Would love to have fellow animal-lovers stay with them, but not a requirement. Except for our cat. He's always here, hence feeding and care is important for any guests.

Neighbourhood
We are within walking distance of several cafes, bars and restaurants, including a convenience store for late-night necessities. There is an excellent natural foods grocery store 5 minutes by car (or 15-20 minutes by foot), and the local light rail system (the MAX) is a 10-minute walk away. This can take you downtown in about 10 minutes.
Our neighborhood is friendly, quiet, safe and very welcoming. We are good friends with most of the people on our street, and they will all be happy to assist any guests who stay at our home. There are several parks and green spaces within walking distance as well--good for picnics, watching sunsets, or just getting a feel for Portland.
Our neighbors all agree that we are lucky to live in one of Portland's true hidden gems.
Getting to my home
Airport is close, accessible by the MAX rail system if needed. We are near I-5 (not near enough to be bothered by noise) so navigating the city is quick and easy.
Nearest airport
Portland International Airport (PDX) is less than 20 minutes from our home (in average traffic times).
Getting Around
See above. For explorations of the city, a car is really not a necessity. However, there are boundless opportunities for nature discoveries, from Forest Park-10 minutes by car-to the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, 45 minutes, and the Oregon Coast and Cascade mountains, within 1.5 hours. Great restaurants nearby, great wilderness just a short drive away!

We are a very close family of four (our children are grown and no longer live at home) who love connection, adventure, discovery and togetherness. We've all, at various points, lived in Europe, and we've traveled extensively, both in the U.S. and abroad. It is, by far, our most cherished value--experiencing, learning from and honoring people and cultures throughout the world.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
