Neighbourhood
We live in a quiet, family friendly neighborhood with a good number of year-round residents.
Nearest airport
The nearest airport is in Reno, Nevada, about 45 miles away (about a 50 minute drive, weather dependent). For reference, other airports within driving distance include Sacramento (approx. 2 hour drive), Oakland (approx. 3.5 hour drive), and San Francisco (approx. 4 hour drive).
Getting around
We recommend a car to access Lake Tahoe (6 miles from the house) and other area lakes, hiking, restaurants, etc. In the summer, the ski resort and village are accessible by a bike path just down the street from our home (the bike path also goes in the other direction to Tahoe City and Lake Tahoe). In the winter, there is a free, on demand door to door shuttle provided by the ski resort that offers transportation to the ski resort and village, as well as to Alpine Meadows, the neighboring ski resort. There are other public transportation options year round (buses and on demand shuttles), but the offerings are limited. We may be able to provide a car, depending on the circumstances and type of exchange.
In the winter, a four wheel drive with snow tires is needed.
