General overview
Our house is very comfortable, has a lovely southwest-facing garden and its own wellness. The house which was built in 1969 has recently been renovated and now has a completely up to date kitchen and a new dining room whilst we have retained the original fireplace. Our male Titus is an indoor cat, we keep him indoors because of the provincial road. He is not a lap cat, but he likes it when people are around.
The space
The closed facade gives access to a hall with toilet and from there you enter through a draft door into spaces that overlap: the living room with seating area, fireplace and TV (several streaming services), the kitchen and dining room. From the living room and the hallway you look out onto the garden, the south and west facades are both entirely made of glass.
The long hallway gives access to a study room. Behind a 'distribution hall' are the 2 bedrooms and the bathroom, at the back of the house. We also have a walk-in closet.
Guest access
All rooms are on the ground floor without thresholds, except the dining room, which is one step up. We recently added this space and because it was previously the garage and there was no crawl space in that location, we decided to raise the floor there slightly.
Notes
We love cooking so the kitchen is fully equipped with oven, grill, teppanyaki plate, steam oven and microwave.

Neighbourhood
Zuidhorn is a village close to Groningen with a good train and bus connection (9 minutes by train). You will find very good restaurants in the area, for example Onder de Linden in Aduard or the Piloersemaborg in Den Ham. Zoutkamp with the Eel Smokehouse and Gaele Postma fish shop is a half-hour drive away.
Groningen itself is the youngest city in the Netherlands, partly due to an international student population. It is a lively city with an interesting cultural offer, including the Groninger Museum, the Stadsschouwburg, etc.
Northern Germany is also easily accessible by car from our house: Leer, Oldenburg, Bremen.
Getting to my home
Train: Zuidhorn station
Easily accessible by car.
Nearest airport
Airports:
Eelde (half an hour's drive), Schiphol (2.5 hours by train, car or train), Bremen (2 hours by car).
Getting around
Shops are easily accessible on foot and by bicycle and of course also by car (in the village there are 2 shopping centers with a garage underneath).

Art historian and political scientist with a great culinary interest. We love to travel and always find house swapping a good option because then someone we trust will take care of our hangover Titus.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
