This is our second home in the mountains. We love it because it is a real log cabin with circa 1810 timbers and a large stone fireplace. It is near Asheville, North Carolina; walking distance to a lake and retreat center; and is an easy drive to tons of hikes, waterfalls, views, biking trails, and outdoor activities in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains. If you are outdoorsy, it is a wonderful base camp; and if you prefer cute shops, cafes, bluegrass music, and a nice downtown -- it has that too!
The space
There is a living room and three bedrooms, plus an upstairs study/den with a pullout sofa that can be used as another bedroom. There are two covered porches. Please note there are about 38 exterior stairs and the interior stairs are VERY steep. For this reason, it is not a good choice for people with mobility issues or for toddlers / young children.
Guest access
This is a two story house built on a steep lot, so there are 38 exterior steps. Also the interior stairs are VERY steep in the style of old cabins. Please be extremely cautious with everyone on these steps, but particularly children, pets, and older folks. If you have mobility issues, this house is NOT recommended.
