Neighbourhood
Our house is located in a local neighborhood where goats are roaming the streets, with lots of small local shops. It's a great area to really experience the Dahab vibe and live like a local.
We're second or third row from the beach, but you'll have to make a little detour to get to the beach. It's only a 3-minute walk. It's always possible to swim there, but snorkeling is best at high tide when you can swim across the reef table to get to the drop-off. It's a bit of a swim but worth it. Water shoes are recommended.
There are numerous small shops and small supermarkets in the area. At nearby Assalah Square you'll find more shops and some local restaurants.
Dahab is well known for its amazing scuba diving and snorkeling as well as wind and kite surfing.
Nearest airport
The nearest airport is Sharm el Sheikh, approximately 90km/ 1h15 by car.
Getting around
This is our vacation home and we don't have a car there. It's a 3-minute walk to the nearest beach, where you can swim and snorkel. There are numerous small shops and supermarkets within easy walking distance as well as some local restaurants. The main tourist area at Lighthouse is about 15 minutes to walk or 2 minutes by taxi.
There are numerous bike rental shops in Dahab and this is a great and inexpensive way to get around. Be mindful of the traffic though. Although there are plenty of cyclists, locals still drive like crazy.
There is no public transport in Dahab, but it's generally very easy (and cheap) to hail a taxi from the road near our house. If you want to do any excursions our caretaker & friend Sameh can help you plan them and arrange a driver for you.
