Neighbourhood

The neighborhood where our home is, is safe and quiet with nice neighbors. It is very close to the University, located close to the citycenter and you have grocery stores in walking distance and a shopping mall close by. The street we live on has very little traffic. In our opinion, Odense is totally underrated. It seems like many want to travel to Copenhagen. And yes, you can easily go to our capital from Odense with public transport in 1 hour and 10 minutes, so you won't miss out. But Odense has so much to offer in town - and since it is situated on the island of Fyn, there are also many beaches to reach in 20 to 50 minute drive. And that are both more touristic minded beaches iwith ice cream and life guard, and also some really nice hidden places that we would tell you about. The city center is cozy, or as the Danes say "hyggeligt" - and has many historical buildings. There are several museums. For example a railway museum which attracts kids and adults alike and you can ride a mini train or sit in the historic coupés and imagine how it felt back then. In the Hans Christian Andersen Museum you can learn about the danish writers life and see the round buildings that have gotten international architecture aknowledgements. You can chose between numerous cozy cafés and restaurants or brunch nordic specialities at the Nordatlantiske Hus. Or the Zoo - which seriously has some of the best playgrounds we have ever been to. If you want to feel like in old days, you can visit Den Fysnke Landsby, an outdoor museum with old danish houses and often live activities. Even further back in time you can go to the Iron Age Jernalderlandsbyen where they have reconstructed 2000 year old houses and activities and souvenirs. In the middle of the town, there is a free public swimmingpool in a cool ambiente. There are many music festivals during summer all over Fyn and you can visit some castles. For instance in Egeskov Castle there are many activities and markeds and you can walk through the tree tops or a labyrinth. The best thing is that from our home you can bike to every attraction in Odense and there is great public transport for the rest of the island. Possibilities for shopping: you can both do great shopping in the city center in specialized stores or in the Rosengårdscenter, a mall pretty close to our home.

Karlina

We are a couple with 4 adult kids. Markus (56) is working as architect and building consultant, Karlina (56) is ceramist and a housewife. We love to be together and give family time high priority. We love cooking (mostly Markus), gardening (mostly Karlina), and traveling. We love to be in nature and by the ocean which we luckily have plenty of here in Denmark. Now we are excited about exchanging house. We travel as a couple or with some of our kids and we will in our inquiries always communicate clearly who will be traveling. Our exchange possibilities also are suited for both couples and families. In August/September 2024 we would like to revisit Albuquerque, NM, USA. No other plans yet, so we are very open to all inquiries. Also interested in shorter exchanges with countries close to Denmark.
