We had a delightful holiday in the Tyack's family home, a beautiful town house situated on a quiet street and only a short walk from amenities & public transport. The house felt like a home from home & we only wished we could stay longer!
Their home is perfect for visiting London and for exploring the Chilterns & surrounding countryside (visiting St Albans). Although we didn't get to Harry Potter studios, it is only 10mins away!
We were made so welcome, being greeted with local produce & homemade flapjacks on the table!
It would be difficult to overstate how helpful Catherine was. From early on, to last minute, and then during our stay....she was always available and full of great advice! In the true spirit of PLU, our holiday was a success largely due to our wonderful host.
Her home was just perfect. Plenty of space and homey. Everything needed worked just like it's supposed to. The location is fantastic, just a short walk to the mass transit station and several restaurants and a small market. Getting into the City of London usually took right at an hour from her front door to the attraction we were visiting.
We spent a lovely 5 days at Catherine’s beautiful home. We used its great location to go into London and do some sightseeing, taking in some live music and a show. The train station is an easy 5 minutes walk away and the trains were really fast and reliable. We were grateful to have the peace and quiet of Catherine’s home to come back to at the end of the day and escape the bustle of the City. We also explored the local historic city of St Albans and spent a very relaxing afternoon in Catherine’s sunny garden.
Catherine was a great exchange partner, kindly organising us a parking permit for her street and giving us great recommendations of local places to eat. Would highly recommend Catherine’s home.
Catherine and Jonny have such a beautiful home in an excellent location. Their house has some lovely period features and the beds are super comfy! Their garden is also a perfect sun trap and we were able to sit out in the garden in early April for lunch.
Their house is on a really quiet street but is only a 5 minute walk from Watford Junction station where you can get a train into Euston in 20 minutes! I would wholeheartedly recommend Catherine and Jonny’s home to anyone looking to visit central London but who wants a place to relax just outside the hustle and bustle.
We stayed in Catherine's home in Watford and had a great stay! The house itself is beautiful and has an interesting history (one that C will supply you with - if you want- when exchanging). There are many beautiful features in the house itself, e.g. the checkered tiles in the hallway and the colorful leaded windows in the front door etc. The three bedrooms are spacious and there are three bathrooms/toilets, which is great for a family stay. As a Swede (with right-hand traffic and broader streets) it was a challenge to maneuver the narrow streets and do parking, but we managed and when leaving we were close to experts at it. :)
Everything you need will be found in the house, and it was easy to collect the key from a neighbor when arriving, and we were also given a welcoming card and a few treats when getting there - much appreciated of course. Communication was swift and good and we exchanged manuals for the houses through e-mail a few months in advance.
While staying in Watford we made daily excursions to Oxford, St Albans, Thorpe Park and Highclere Castle (from the tv-series 'Downtown Abbey'), while also doing some shopping in downtown Watford and getting a glimpse of the wonderful Cassiobury Park (which was just a short distance away). The mural of Elton John (found on a nearby street) was one of my husband's favorite.
We met online with Catherine & Jonny and shared many conversations & recommendations using WhatsApp.
We were so please that they enjoyed their stay at our home in the country and were delighted to find a painting Jonny had done of our view!
It has been a very pleasant & personable exchange. Thank you, dear Tyack family!
Catherine and her lovely family treated our home with respect and left it spotless. She was happy to find and bring in a couple of late-arriving deliveries and her communication was excellent.
I wouldn't hesitate to have Catherine and family back for another exchange.
Catherine and her family were our first guests using PLU. The communication before their stay was excellent and really helpful to us as first time exchangers. Communication throughout their stay was great and they left our house so tidy, we would not have known they had been there other than for the very lovely thank you card and thoughtful gift. Would highly recommend them as guests and we are so looking forward to staying at their home in April.
When we arrived home the home was left in an immaculate state by Catherine and her family. Everything has been taken care of in a great way and even a "thank you" card and gift was left to us upon our arrival. Great communication during stay and I totally recommend having them as guests in your home.
Brilliant exchange with Jen and family. Their home is gorgeous - a beautifully decorated cottage and very comfortable. Jen was a pleasure to communicate with and we had a helpful video call in advance. She was also really helpful with suggestions and tips over WhatsApp. We were happy to look after her friendly cat; she arranged for her dogs to be looked after elsewhere.
The area is very rural and there are lovely views across fields and rolling hills from her house. We appreciated her recommendations for things to do in the area and did several things listed in her house manual. Thank you again Jen!
Very happy to recommend Jen and family as exchange partners. Our home was left as we'd left it and she was a pleasure to communicate with in advance, and during the exchange itself.
Jon and Ying and their two friends were excellent guests for this globe exchange. We had great communication in advance, including a friendly video call. The house was left in perfect condition and they left a kind gift. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them as exchange partners.
Pip and Ken were great guests in our house. It was left in a perfect state when we returned home. They even put on a couple of washes of the bedding and towels and hung the washing out (after having asked), which was kind. Communication was very friendly and easy and she was a pleasure to communicate with. I'd happily recommend them as exchange partners.
We had a great short exchange to Jane's house. It's really nicely decorated and very comfortable to be in. The house is at the top of a hill and out the back there's a fantastic view right out to the Peak District hills, and you can watch the sunset over the countryside from the deck. Emily the cat was no bother, sometimes came up for a stroke and often napped in the sun.
The house at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, so there is no traffic going past. Being in the suburbs of Sheffield it's near all modern amenities but from the front door you can walk quickly out to a countryside walk. In 15 minutes' drive you can be right in the Peak District for some stunning walks.
All communication beforehand was very easy and straightforward. Jane and family arrived at our house before we set off so it was lovely to meet them before we set off to her house. I'd certainly recommend a swap to her house.
Jane and family were great exchangers in our house. It was lovely to meet them in person as they arrived at ours before we set off to theirs. Everything was very smooth and straightforward about the swap. I'd have no qualms about recommending them as exchange partners.
We had a fantastic time staying in Pip and Ken's house. It was extremely clean and everything was very comfortable. The house was lovely and warm despite the cold February weather. They kindly left some thoughtful welcome gifts and even arranged neighbours to leave fresh milk and bread even though Pip and Ken had been travelling for a couple of weeks by the time we arrived. Pip left a very comprehensive house manual and we followed up several of the helpful recommendations.
In terms of the area, there is plenty to do - or you can just enjoy relaxing in their garden room overlooking fields! There are also several nice walks straight out of the front door. Thanks Pip and Ken for a lovely stay.
We had a great stay in Pernilla's house. Communication in advance was perfect (and being an English teacher she has excellent English even by the standards of Swedes' English speaking, which was universally very good when we travelled there!). She has a very useful home manual with all the information you need about the house, and lots of tips about the local area. We also had a bit of friendly communication whilst we were swapping.
Her house was ideal for our stay with two teenagers; clean and modern, and nicely decorated. The garden is overlooked at the back by lovely trees and vegetation. It's in a quiet estate where cars are parked a short distance from the houses, making it feel calm and safe, and also conveniently a short drive from several supermarkets. In the local area of Borås, my daughters loved swimming in two different lakes nearby, where there are official swimming places. We also had a couple of lovely walks into the nearby nature reserve - you can either just set off from the front door, or drive 10 mins and take a different trail. We also visited the Textile Museum in Borås which was a well-set out, modern and interesting.
We took up one of Pernilla's recommendations for one of the best places for fika (Swedish custom of socialising with coffee and a sweet treat) by going to nearby Alingsås, a pretty town with several great cafes, and dutifully trying four kinds of sticky bun.
It's about 45 mins to drive to Gothenburg - we spent a whole day exploring the beautiful archipelago, which you can do on the regular car and foot /cycle ferries that connect the islands (which are all free!). We also spent a day in Gothenburg itself, where there is plenty to do - and being a major port, lots of seafood to eat. We took advantage of being near Denmark to do an overnight trip to Copenhagen as well - easily do-able.
I would happily recommend a stay at Pernilla's house.
Pernilla and family were perfect guests in our house. Although we didn't meet in person, our neighbours (who handed them the keys and chatted to them a few times) said they were a lovely family! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them as guests.
