Hello! We're so excited to share our special home with you! Sycamore Hill Farm is perched on a private hill with a stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The backyard faces Shenandoah National Park and an official "dark zone" - it is so dark on clear nights that you can see the Milky Way!
The custom built house is 3,000 sq feet on one level, with three bedrooms (but we can provide two additional mattresses to double up kids in two of the bedrooms) and 3.5 bathrooms, a living room and a den, a large entertainers kitchen and spacious dining table. The view from every window is green and peaceful: mountains, woods, garden, or pasture.
The yard features a recessed pool, a fire pit, a bricked patio with a table that seats 8, rocking chairs and hammocks. There are two other seating areas around the house, so you can decide if you want to enjoy sitting in the sun or shade.
There is a lovely cottage garden full of herbs and flowers, as well as a large vegetable garden.
The farm is home to friendly dairy goats and sheep, three affectionate barn cats, and our "Lassie dog," Navi. A stay can include feeding the animals in the morning and making sure they have water (takes about fifteen minutes). And the animals are always up for pets and scratches behind the ears! Or we can hire a farm sitter to come out and take care of them.
*We can only host NON smokers. We have some severe allergies, so even smoke coming into the house on clothing would make us unable to be in our home afterward. Thank you for understanding.*
The space
The home has a great room with a dining table that seats 8, a living area with a fireplace, an upright grand piano, and our library wall. Double sliding glass doors and a large picture window let in the sunshine and look out over the mountains.
The kitchen has lots of counter space, a gas range, fridge and freezer, and small appliances. We will make sure there is room in the pantry and fridge for your food. You are welcome to make use of our spices, condiments, and dry goods. The kitchen gets beautiful morning sun and looks over the peaceful pasture. A sitting area right outside the double French doors is a lovely spot to have your morning coffee.
The den is a cozy spot for cuddling up to watch a movie on the sectional. There is a TV equipped with Amazon prime, YouTube, and other streaming services.
Three of the bedrooms are in their own wing of the house. This is ideal for younger children who go to bed early: you can close the door to the bedroom wing to block sound, while the adults continue to hang out in the main part of the house.
The master bedroom has a king sized bed and a full bathroom with a double vanity. The windows look out to the mountains. There is a workstation in this room (since my husband works from home). We may be able to set it up so that it could be used during your stay.
Past the master is a child's bedroom with a tall twin loft bed. The bed has a weight limit of 180lbs and is fairly close to the ceiling, so a tall person would probably not be comfortable. An additional mattress can be put under the loft bed to sleep one more, or for someone not comfortable in the loft. This bedroom has its own full bathroom. The windows overlook the vegetable garden and the barn.
The next child's bedroom has a shorter loft bed. This bed has a weight limit of 200lbs. Another mattress could be provided to sleep another child, or for someone not comfortable in a loft bed. This room also has its own full bathroom, and both a garden and mountain view.
There is a mudroom for coming in and out with plenty of room for hanging jackets and leaving shoes.
This is our primary residence where we work, homeschool, and homestead. It is a space we love and keep clean, tidy, and welcoming, but please be aware it is not staged in as pristine or minimal a fashion as a home that is only used for guests and vacation. The space is lived in fulltime and all our things are here. We hope you enjoy being here just as much as we do and it feels like a home away from home ❤️

Neighbourhood
We live down a quiet, gravel country road. You cannot see any neighbors from our house except in winter when all the leaves have dropped.
The house is about twenty minutes from downtown Culpeper, where you'll find everything you need: several grocery stores, shopping, coffee shops, boutiques on Main Street and Davis Street, a small theater, and some wonderful restaurants.
There are many fantastic day trips to take from the farm!
Downtown Washington DC - 60 miles, 1.5 hours
Shenandoah National Park - 20 minutes
Sperryville - 15 minutes
Skyline Drive - 30 minutes
Monticello, Thomas Jefferson' home - 1 hour
Montpelier, James Madison's home - 1 hour
Luray Caverns - 45 minutes
Charlottesville and University of Virginia - 1 hour
Plus many battlefields and other historical interest sites.
Getting around
You will need to rent or bring your own car to drive around the area. If possible, you would probably appreciate having an SUV for more comfort on the bumpy gravel road to our house.

Lauren
We are a nature and history loving, homeschooling family of five - Nate and Lauren, and three kids, ages 14, 12, and 8.
We are up for simultaneous or non simultaneous swaps, or globes! We can travel between late April and early November. In the winter we don't leave the farm because snow and ice can make the animal care more challenging and in March - April we have baby lambs and goats being born!
We would love to share the joy of farm life with other families while gaining the opportunity to travel without having to sell our animals.
