Hospitality Description: We are open to hospitality hosting for individuals and maybe couples as well, for short-term stays. We can make my son's room or my office (with foldable mattresses) available. Both rooms are downstairs, next to a bathroom, so there'd be some privacy. There's also access to our outside patio from my office.

General overview
Hello fellow travelers! We are happy to introduce you to our home, which you will find to be spacious, spotless and peaceful. The house is perched on a little hill, surrounded by green trees and filled with natural light. Our aesthetic is mid-century modern and minimalistic.
We are situated in Ventura County, nestled between Los Angeles and Pasadena to the East -- Ventura, Carpinteria and Santa Barbara to the West -- Ojai to the North -- and Malibu to the South. It's a nice, central location from which you can explore many of Southern California's most beautiful spots.
The space
There are high beamed ceilings and two separate floors with 3 bedrooms, a large office/art studio, 2 1/2 bathrooms, a patio with swings and a balcony with a mountain view. We have one son whose room is filled with Legos, kids books and toys, so we welcome families.
We love food and cooking, so our kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need.
There is also a lovely shared pool and jacuzzi with dressing rooms/bathrooms, an outdoor shower and a BBQ area for grilling. (Note: the jacuzzi is heated year-round, but the pool isn't heated during Winter months.)
Guest access
There are three steps to our front door and two floors with one flight of carpeted stairs in our home. The first floor has the living room, kitchen, main bedroom with queen-sized bed, en suite bathroom with shower and tub and large office/studio with half bathroom. The downstairs has an additional bedroom with double-sized bed, bathroom with heated floor, another bedroom/office with couch and desk. (We also have two comfy, portable, folding, single mattresses, which can be used in any room.)
Notes
We have a sweet, very friendly kitty named Maya. We'd love to exchange homes with other pet owners, so we can share pet-caring responsibilities.
We are looking to spend some time in Madrid, Valencia and/or Barcelona in 2025. At this point, we're leaning longer-term, as in 3-10 months, but we're obviously still figuring things out, so please hit us up with any Spain options!
We’re open to sim exchanges within driving distance over Winter or Spring Break 2025 (and my son says: “With a kitty please!”) Anyone? :-)
We are extremely conscientious house guests and would take perfect care of your home. Of course, we would appreciate the same care of ours. This is our primary/only residence and not a business for us. We're just hoping to share our home, meet like-minded people and see more of this beautiful world of ours. Please feel free to reach out with any questions at all!

Neighbourhood
Our immediate neighborhood has tons of amazing hiking trails, parks and nature. There are grocery stores and restaurants within a 5-10 minute drive. We are 20 minutes to Malibu Creek State Park, a spectacular 8,000-acre nature preserve in the Santa Monica mountains, originally inhabited by the native Chumash people and the sight of many famous films and TV shows. There is much to explore all around, near and far.
We are 20-30 minutes from many wonderful beaches (we especially recommend Malibu Lagoon and Zuma!). The Getty Villa, Getty Museum, Skirball Center, Huntington Gardens, Santa Barbara Zoo and Ventura Harbor/Santa Cruz Islands are also favorite spots of ours to visit. Universal Studios is 30 minutes away and Disneyland is 90 minutes away.
NOTE: we know it can be hard to choose a spot to stay when you aren't familiar with an area. We want you to know that Los Angeles and Southern California are known for their sprawl. Angelenos on the east side joke that they see friends in other states more often than they see friends on the west side of the city. If you're looking to be in central Los Angeles specifically, our place is probably not for you. However, if you enjoy natural beauty and a central location from which you can explore lots of Southern California including Los Angeles, Pasadena, Malibu, Santa Barbara etc. then we think you'll be very happy here.
Getting to my home
No matter where you stay in Southern California, you'll need a car. It would be best to rent one at the airport then drive to our home. We have had GREAT luck finding reliable and affordable cars through Turo.com. We have a covered garage you can use right in front of our place.
Nearest airport
Los Angeles International Airport/LAX is 26 miles away (approximately 60 minutes) and Burbank Airport/BUR is 24 miles away (approximately 45 minutes).

Karen
Hello! We are a family of three. My husband is an animator, illustrator and jazz saxophone player. I am a producer and hobby photographer. Our son Nathanael (11) is a budding artist and prolific Lego builder. Since our son is an only child and traveling alone with his parents can be lonely, we sometimes bring a friend of his along, and sometimes maybe that friend’s mom. We love food, art, music and travel.
"We're interested in a Spain/California swap sometime in 2025. Our dates are flexible, but we'd like it to be for 3-6 months. Ideal locations are in/near Barcelona and/or Valencia. Dreams can come true!"
