General overview

Fresh and modern house in a great location, minutes from Boulder, Denver, and the Rocky Mountains.

The space

Our house is 2400 square feet of finished livable space, with an open plan living room and dining area, open plan family room and kitchen, office/study and powder room on the ground floor. Our home is heated and air conditioned, with a smart thermostat. The living room is furnished with two loveseat sofas and coffee table; the dining area has an expandable table for four. The fully-equipped kitchen comes with a large refrigerator/freezer, 5-burner electric stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, air fryer, coffee maker, and all utensils, knives, and cookware. In the mudroom/laundry room are a large capacity washer and electric dryer. Upstairs you will find the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. The bedroom is furnished with two double beds, and the recently-renovated bathroom has a double vanity, a separate toilet room, and a large walk-in shower with a bench. Also upstairs are another bedroom furnished with a king-size Tempurpedic mattress and a small writing desk, as well as a separate bathroom with a bathtub and shower; and finally, a room we call the lounge, furnished with a convertible sofa, two ottomans, massage chair, and a 42" flat-screen TV. Downstairs in the basement you'll find an additional gathering space, with two sofas, a recliner, well-stocked bookshelves, a wet bar, and an exercise area furnished with a spin bike and a rowing machine, as well as some free weights and an assortment of stretchy bands. Outside, the front yard welcomes you with a green lawn, three off-street parking spaces, and a covered front porch with a table and two chairs. In the backyard, an abundance of patio space, a screened gazebo, gravel paths and 14 trees provide an oasis for outdoor living. In addition, there is a hot tub for soaking and relaxing whenever you want.

Guest access

The house is three levels - basement, ground floor, and upper level. There are two sets of stairs between the levels. To enter the house requires negotiating four steps up to enter through the front door, or five steps to enter through the garage.

Notes

We are in the middle of some renovation projects at this time - new tile flooring in the kitchen and mudroom, new carpet throughout the upstairs (except for the bathrooms) with new tile in the second bathroom, new quartz countertops in the second bathroom and kitchen, new carpet in the living/dining area, and refinished kitchen cabinets. Because of these projects, we won't be able to host anyone or do any swaps for a few weeks!

Neighbourhood

In our neighborhood, just a few short steps up the street, you will have a beautiful view of the front range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. There are an abundance of walking/biking trails in and around our neighborhood - miles of trails, in fact. From spring to early autumn, hot-air balloons launch from a field just west of our neighborhood, and can often be seen going over our house. Just up the street is our neighborhood park, with open grassy areas good for throwing a frisbee, kicking a ball around or just lying in the sun. Also in the park are tennis/pickleball courts, and a large swimming pool, open from late May through September. Leaving the neighborhood, in a 4-mile radius you can find four supermarkets, numerous restaurants, bars, and shops, a couple of recreation centers, two golf courses, a couple of brewpubs, a cidery, a bowling alley, a live music venue, and several churches. There are several locations along the front range to kayak or paddleboard - McIntosh Lake in Longmont, Carter Lake in Berthoud, Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, Barr Lake State Park in Brighton, and Boulder Reservoir in Boulder. We like McInthosh Lake, because it has wonderful mountain views, is big enough that it takes a while to paddle across, and it is free! Just 10 miles (20 minutes) away is Boulder, home of the University of Colorado. Boulder has a lot to offer, with the pedestrian-only Pearl Street Mall with all the shops, bars, and restaurants; Chautauqua Park hosting the Colorado Music Festival every summer, and a great place to have a picnic, as well as the starting point for a multitude of hikes along the Front Range. Just 44 miles (just over 1 hour) away in the mountains, is Estes Park, the eastern gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, and a quaint little town, with lots of places to get souvenirs, food and drink, saltwater taffy, ice cream, t-shirts, etc. Rocky Mountain National Park is 415 square miles (1074 square kilometers) of natural beauty, with lots of opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, picnicking, rock climbing, and just enjoying all the lakes, forests of pine and aspen, and waterfalls. You might see deer, elk, moose, and possibly even bear when you visit the park. Just 25 miles (about 40 minutes) away is Denver, the capital of the state of Colorado. Denver is where you go for live music of all types, live theater, and art. Clustered together in close proximity to each other are three world-class art museums - the Denver Art Museum, which recently opened the completely renovated Gio Ponti-designed building, the Clyfford Still museum, and the Vance Kirkland museum. A bit further to the west, you will find Red Rocks Amphitheater, world famous venue for live music, located in Morrison, nestled in a valley in the foothils. If you continue going west, up I-70, there are numerous places for hiking, wandering around old mining towns, and of course, skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Within a 2.5 hour drive from our house there are 8 world-class ski resorts: - Eldora Mountain, 32 miles - 1 hour - Loveland Ski Area, 74 miles - 1:30 minutes - Keystone Resort, 94 miles - 2:10 minutes - Arapahoe Basin, 82 miles, 1:50 minutes - Breckenridge Ski Resort, 100 miles - 2:15 minutes - Copper Mountain, 99 miles - 2:14 minutes - Vail Ski Resort, 115 miles - 2:15 minutes - Beaver Creek Resort, 127 miles - 2:34 minutes If you want to go further afield, Cheyenne, Wyoming is just 86 miles to the north (1:25 minutes). Colorado Springs is just 96 miles south (1:42 minutes), both via I-25.

Getting to my home

When arriving by airplane, you will deplane in Denver, at Denver International Airport, which is 32 minutes (30 miles) from our house by car, if you take the E-470 toll road. If you take public transit from the airport, you can catch a bus (AB1 route) at the south end of the main concourse, ride into Boulder, and change buses to either the "Jump" route or the 225 route, exit the bus at the intersection of Arapahoe Road and 111th street, and walk 0.7 miles (15 minutes) to our house.

Nearest airport

Denver International Airport is 30 miles - 32 minutes - by car from our house.

Getting around

It is a 15-minute walk to the nearest bus stop. You can catch a bus to Boulder - the "Jump" route, and it takes 40 minutes to get to the Downtown Boulder bus station, where you can catch buses to other parts of Boulder, or regional buses into Denver. From our nearby bus stop, you can also catch the 225 bus and go into Lafayette, about 20 minutes. You can also walk to Lafayette, which is only about 2 miles away. The nearest supermarket, Safeway, is 1.2 miles away - about 25 minutes on foot. Driving is the best way to get around the area, and to all the places we've described above. You can rent a car from about $40/day (as of September 2023) at the airport.

Our immediate family is small - just my wife Nancy and I. My parents are in their late 80's, and live nearby. We have a large extended family, made up of lots of cousins here in the US, and many more in the UK and New Zealand.
