We spent six wonderful days in Terje’s cozy and comfortable house with a nice terrace on top from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay. The whole area around Oslo fyord is super. In particular, we want to underline the great hospitality we got from our friendly and helpful hosts who supported us all the time. In conclusion, top experience in Norway that we will never forget.
We had a pleasant stay in the very functional apartment. Owners that I highly recommend very nice generous. We had a great time with them in their cabin. We hope to see them again. A big thank you tedje and Anne Hélène
We had a fantastic time in Holmestrand in Terje and Anna - Hélène's apartment. The location was ideal with so many places of natural beauty to explore close by. We were there over the summer and had many walks, picnics and swims.
The apartment itself is luxuriously furnished and very convenient in every way. It all worked seamlessly. My daughters loved the movable beds and the huge television (not something we have at home ;-).
The communication with Terje and Anna-Hélène has been very warm and easy and the invitation to come and have dinner at their summer cabin was a real treat. What lovely people, it makes me proud to be a fellow European!
Where is Holmestrand and what is there to see or do? We didnt know, but I'm glad we decided to find out!
Terje and Anne's condo is right by the Holmestrand marina. Restaurants, shopping, cafes are nearby downstairs, and we were able to walk everywhere. The condo was comfortable and we slept like babies there.
You will need a vehicle to see more of the towns around Holmestrand. It's supposed to be easy to go into Oslo from the Holmestrand station (across the street), but they were doing track work, so we ended up completely bypassing the capital. Instead, we visited the nearby towns which all had their own vibes. The Norwegian summer in the countryside and by the water is truly something special.
And finally, it should be noted that they are one of the rare hosts that you will always remember. Generous and gracious. We implore them to allow us to return their hospitality one day at our home!
Terje has to be one of the most generous, friendly, and helpful hosts we have ever exchanged with. Communication prior to our exchange was excellent and continued throughout our time at his home. He went above and beyond at every point, from picking us up at the ferry and driving us to the apartment, to helping us get settled in, to providing a variety of maps and other local tips, to offering the use of his ebikes and other items, and even inviting us to visit his family at their secondary home. The apartment in Holmestrand was excellent. It is well located just steps from the waterfront as well as many shops, restaurants, and services. Our family of two adults and two children had plenty of space. We would not hesitate to recommend Terje as an exchange partner and look forward his family visiting us at our home some day soon.
Terje is a host who goes far beyond average hospitality. A very warm communication and lots of tips given both before as well as during the stay. The apartment is new and provides everything. Holmestrand is near sea, mountains, capital Oslo. We enjoyed a winter holiday. Meeting Terje and Anne-Helene in their cabin was the highlight of the week, heart-warming and genuine people ❤️ Thank you so much for this great start of our new adventure as home exchanging PLU members, we could not have wished for anything better!
We had a wonderful time at Terje and Helen’s home! It is cozy and comfortable, and the location is amazing. The apartment is right next to a beautiful marina with sailboats, a couple small beaches, convenient supermarkets, a train station (with no sound because it's built into the mountain), a great gym with a very friendly owner, and everything else we might have needed. The communication with Terje was spectacular ever since we first connected and arranged the exchange. He was very responsive and proactive, sharing great ideas for fun things to do nearby to feel like a local. We took advantage of these opportunities and we’re so glad we did! It helped us really understand the Norwegian culture and everyone we met was very friendly and nice. Terje & Helen were very kind to let us use their bikes and car, which opened up all kinds of exploration and adventures for us: A Viking Museum and ships in nearby towns, Oslo, a fantastic Naval Museum with a real submarine you can walk inside and much more. A highlight of our stay was Terje and Helen inviting us to visit them at their summer cabin and showing us around the beautiful nature spots with amazing views and then treating us to a delicious traditional Norwegian meal. We really enjoyed our awesome Norwegian adventure!
Holmestrand was actually my favorite part of my 27 day stay in Norway. The town is beautiful, right on the fjord. Terje had a couple of E-bikes that we took out a couple of times to explore a neighboring town. We also loved walking up on the ridge where the views are amazing. We often went to his rooftop patio for a glass of wine and enjoy the view. As for Terje, he was the nicest guy ever! He was there to meet our train and when we didn’t get off that train in time, he graciously went to the next train stop to meet us. He was so welcoming and kind. He made several suggestions about sites to see and let us use his car to travel there. He helped us so much and we really appreciated him. His home had everything we needed and we slept very well in the comfy bed.
Terje and Anne are among the best hosts we have had in many years of exchanging. They were very kind, helpful and friendly.
Their flat is very clean and comfortable containing everything necessary for a pleasant stay.. It is in an excellent position in a beautiful little town. We recommend it highly.
So nice and warm welcome I could not even wish for. Terje accepted my request on laste minute exchange and welcomed us perfectly. In their home we had everything we needed.
The apartment is in the center, very near to the grocery shop and other shops and also close to the coast. It is equipped with everything you will need and more.
The whole time of our stay and before our stay, Terje was on our disposal wiht useful information, suggestion on what to do and see. He and his wife were great hosts, for every recommendation.
We loved our firs PLU swap thanks to those wonderful people.
We would give Terje & Ann a 10 out of 10. Our home was spotless, and you could not tell they had been staying there for a month. They are a lovely couple, and we were privileged to share a couple of meals together. We would not hesitate to recommend them and would have them back again.
It is people like Terje & Ann that make home exchanging such a pleasure.
Fabulous guests, easy communication, home left clean and tidy and it was lovely to meet up in person
We were so lucky to have Terje and Ann Helene in our home for six weeks while we were in Canada. They were very attentive of our home, always in touch if they thought we should know something, kept an eye on the pool and garden - and even did some extensive weeding!
They left the home super clean as well as some other lovely gifts. They also borrowed our car and left it completely detailed for us upon our return.
We have no hesitation in recommending them as exchange partners.
What a great introduction to hosting! Our guests from Norway were good communicators and left our home in great condition. We are looking forward to visiting Norway and hope to catch up in person soon. We would highly recommend Terje and Anne Helene :)
Terje and Anne-Helene are the sweetest people possible. They stayed for the night to continue their travels from Engeland to Norway via Denmark. Really easy going laid back guests. We call them friends by now.
Terje and Anne-Helene were wonderful guests and left my home super clean and tidy. Communication was great throughout and I’m glad they enjoyed their stay. Welcome again anytime x
It was a pleasure to have Terje and his wife as our guests in Gaeta. They left the house spotlessly clean and everything was in order. They were our first "PLU exchange friends" and I can say that it was a really positive start!
Terje and Anne-Helene were perfect exchange partners and guests. They took great care of our home and left it spotless when we came back. They also brought us some wonderful treats from Norway! They are just wonderful people and we can't recommend them enough.
Terje and Anne-Helene stayed in our little holiday shack and were a pleasure to communicate with from beginning to end.. I love exchanging with people who are home exchangers in the true sense - friendly and happy to explore off the beaten path destinations. They went to places that I am yet to explore, so opened up new possibilities and recommendations in our own area. One day I hope to explore their part of the world.
It was a big surprise for us to get a response all the way from Norway when we enquired in the PLU facebook group if someone would be willing to look after our house and garden for six weeks. It was followed up with very clear communication and decision making and Terje and Anne-Helene were very flexible. We loved our video chat beforehand and when they arrived it felt like friends were visiting!
It was great to find house and garden (and car!) in great shape and Terje had even tried to look after my vegetable garden. Not an easy task as I had not been able to get all the necessary equipment before we left on our trip. All decorative plants were doing well and I had even orchids coming into flower that had not flowered before. The house was spotless. Thank you both.
In short, we were very happy with our arrangement and can highly recommend Terje and Anne-Helene for future exchanges. Another great experience for me after 20+ previous exchanges.
Terje and Anne-Helene stayed at my house in Hervey Bay for a week. As it was a Globe exchange we were able to meet up with them a couple of times. They are a delightful, friendly couple and it was great to converse and get to know them. It was so interesting hearing about their experiences and future plans.
Communication before the exchange was really good and my house was certainly well looked after. Thank you. 🙏🏻 😊
Terje and Anne-Helene would be welcome back anytime - I would highly recommend them to other people in the PLU community.
Terje and his wife were fantastic guests. Communication was always super easy and very, very friendly. Our house was also perfectly prepared for the next guests. We hope you had a great first home exchange. We are really looking forward to being your guests in the future.
Perfect houstst are also a perfect guests. We loved having them in our cabin. They are so friendly and pleasant people, we love our time together. They are always more than welcome to come back.
Our stay at Cindy and David was the last of 4 in WA. Their house is brand new in a development area. It’s just a short walk down to the beach, where you can walk for hours😎 or take a swim. They have absolutely everything you need and some more. The shaded outdoor place was cool and nearly free from flies. The cinema room was a hit during the evenings. It is just a short walk to both shops, restaurants and train. Communication was quickly responded. If you are able to exchange with Cindy and David it is absolutely recommended.
We reached out to Jenni to fill a weekend without any PLU exchange and she immediately accepted. Her second home is Busselton is just perfect for exploring the south west. The only thing we regretted was that we didn’t plan a longer stay. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, but still very central. It has all the amenities you will need. So many things happened in this small town throughout the weekend. Communication was great, and my wife loved all the bird decorations. Thank you Jenni!
Trish and Darrell’s house is perfectly located between 3 parks and only a short drive to the beach. What more can you want? Yes, outside spots to relax. It’s 5 different spots to choose from. Balcony, behind the house under a protective roof, a hammock, beside the pool and in front of the entrance (smelling the incredibly scent of the roses). With a large pool, you might just want to chill with a beer and relax around the house. A short walk of about 25 minutes to the train station. When you arrive at the house it feels as an noble old home, and I guess it preserves the cool air quite good during the hot season. The garage connected to the kitchen is very convenient. It is equipped with everything you need. One thing we never had seen before was a dishwasher with 2 separate drawers. On my wishlist! We could easily stayed here for the whole 3 months we are in Perth. Thanks for making us visit Perth!
Our first house exchange of 4 in Perth was absolutely amazing. The house is very modern, bright and luxurious. The location in Halls Head is also fantastic. 180 degree view of the ocean from living room and terrace. You have nice walking/bike trails along the seaside, with nice beaches. On the other side there is wetlands with an inlet and even more trails. Mandurah is not far away if you want a town. For some reason we slept very well during the night. If it was the beds or the sound of distance waves, we are not sure. There is a brewery close by with great beer, excellent pizza and live music: Wedgetail Brewery. Communication was supereasy, and they even let us communicate directly to Stewart’s mom and dad. They helped us a few times and was superhelpful. Very friendly neighborhood. In sum, one of our best exchanges ever! Highly recommended!
This is a long over due review. Hosting Erica, Irene and Sandro was so nice, the final hosting of 5 this summer. Everything was great, communication was quick and easy (we stayed at their second home in Gaeta in the spring). They left our apartment clean and tidy. The best part was spending a day together at our cabin. So fun talking and exchanging experiences. If you get a chance to exchange with them, don’t hesitate.
Celine and her family are really a true PLU family. We loved to host them and had a very good time together at our cabin. Everything was perfect, from communication (even though we don’t speek French), cleaning, lovely kids, taking care of our apartment and car. Hope you get a lot of wonderful exchanges in the future. Hope to meet you again sometime! Thanks for being so nice Celine, Victorien, Justin and Valentine.
It was a pleasure to host Claudia and her family. We had a very good time together at our cabin. Everything was perfect, from communication, cleaning, lovely kids and taking care of our apartment. Hope you get a lot of wonderful exchanges in the future. We will probably meet again in the Netherlands one day! Thanks for being so nice Claudia, Belia and Livia.
This review is well over due, so sorry. It was a pleasure to host our Canadien family this summer. Communication was smooth and they left our home spotless. They visit us at our cabin, and with two kids from our family staying at the same time was supernice! The kids even made our recently bought Lego flowers. We had a lot of fun and got time for a swim. Looking forward to visit them and say hey to a bear or two😉. Thank you Julie, Bryan, Devon and Rayne.
Our friends, Marije and Gerben! Thanks for letting us sleep one night on our way home from England! We said we didn’t need anything more than a bed to sleep in, but you served both tee and coffee, prepared breakfast and more. Invited us to a concert and did a wonderful boattrip on the canals.
Wow, and your house is so nice with goose feather lamp, monkey lamp (you have to see it with your own eyes), and a forrest in the sleepingroom. Thank you so much!
We stayed for a week at Molly’s apartment in Sidmouth. It was actually my first stay in England since I was 17. We had driven the car a lot so we decided to let it stay until the last full day of our stay. The apartment was superclose to everything and it had a lot of personal touches. Sidmouth is quite small but still has a lot of dining places and other services. Hikes in the hills on both side of the town. We didn’t miss anything. The last full day we drove to some places nearby, and we definitely could have stayed for at least another week. Comfy bed, nice neighbors, quiet and central. What more can you ask for? Thanks Molly!
We really enjoyed a one month stay in Dennis apartment. It was perfect as a remote worker stay with everything you need for computer work. Nice big TV. The veranda had a perfect view of the sunset and the hammock is just so great. The area around the apartment was nice to walk the small dog we had with us. Many variations in routes in the surrounding area. It is close to shops and busstop. Electric charger outside the front door. Dennis also provided us access to a book «Epic hikes in Europe» witch we really enjoyed reading. Roosendaal is a nice small city with everything you need. There is so many small places with historic buildings in driving distance and only 8 minutes to the border of Belgium.
Dennis and Elena left our house in perfect condition. Communication was easy and they really made a lot out of the time they stayed at our place. They left a lovely review in our guest book. Highly recommended as guests.
Irene, Sandro and Erica’s apartment in Gaeta is very well located. Close to hikes, beaches and restaurants in the old town of Gaeta with perfect views. Quiet located with birds singing throughout the day. We visited in late April/early May. So nice to escape the crowds in summertime. Short walk down to a cafe in the morning for coffee and cake. So relaxing. The old town has stairs and narrow paths all over. With so many churches in town, it was surprisingly quiet. We got to borrow their motorcycle so got to visit some places in the nearby area. Apartment had everything you need. We did not meet, but hope to do that in August when they will visit us.
For us, this was the Italian dream.
It has been a pleasure to have Terje and his wife as our guests in Gaeta. They left the house perfectly clean and everything was in order. They have been our first "PLU exchange friends" and I can say it was a really positive beginning!
We had the pleasure of staying at Roger, Lana and Ryan’s apartment in Coimbra when they were away in Italy. We met briefly when we arrived and it was so nice seeing them again after they visited us last year. (Lesson learned that we should have planed for some time together before leaving, it would have been fun to talk about all we and they experienced). The apartment is located close to everything. Bakery downstairs was perfect for fresh bread and some treats. Many groceries nearby and a big shopping center. Nice parks nearby and a short walk to the old town.
They have everything you need in the apartment, and a plus was homemade yoghurt (we are going to try to make the same when we get home). We always buy bottled water in southern Europe, but they had a filter device which made the tap water nice and took away all the smell. So no bottled water this time👍.
The apartment is bright and cosy. You get that Lana has put a lot of effort in details. They have a very informative home manual. And impressive QR codes in front of appliances linking to videos explaining the operation. Supereasy and convevient.
We did a lot of local hikes and chilled in the old town. So much history in the old buildings. As the town is quite hilly
there is a lot of nice viewpoints to visit.
If you are in doubt, this family is the perfect hosts and guests.
We had the pleasure of hosting Marije and Gerben for a week in the Norwegian winter. Really nice people (as all PLU members we have met). We talked and ate, and it got late. We had such a good time that we completely forgot to take a picture.
They took very good care of our home and equipment. We can absolutely recommend them as guests in your home.
Yes forgot to take a picture, too much to talk about. But the pleasure was all ours. We are looking forward for you to come to The Netherlands, no rush!
Natalie and Simons lakehouse is really unique. It is located on the far end of the road leading to the point. Just cross the very quiet road and you are at the waterside. Going down here at dawn when it is no wind is magical. The water smooth as a mirror, with some birds quietly swimming on the surface, and the colorful sky. Just wow!
The lakehouse has everything you need and ozzes of history. This is the perfect place to just relax and escape the everyday stress.
You have so much to discover in the area. For us one week was too short. The beaches in the area are just stunning! If you want a slow day you can just relax on the terrace, and the mornings are perfect at the table on the other side of the lakehouse.
People in the area are also very nice. We met a couple at the bassin and after talking a bit, we were invited in their home for coffee and tea. So nice!
Hope to meet Natalie and Simon when they are coming to Norway!!
We were lucky to be able to stay for 6 weeks at Marion and Kevins house.
We had a video call prior to our travel.
When we arrived they picked us up and they arranged a nice welcome dinner with friends and family.
We had a few days together at the beginning and end of the stay, perfect to get to get to know the house and routines. The house is newly renovated and has a big garden. It is kind of hidden away from the street, but still very central. Perfect if you like a quiet area with wildlife. My favorite spot in the mornings was at the patio with a coffee watching the birds taking the morning bath (unforgetable). We was lucky to borrow Marions car and two bicycles. So we used the car to visit nearby places (mostly parks with hikes (looking for Koalas), but also Golden Beach and Sunshine Coast) and the bikes to get to know the local area, with the points, harbor and restaurants as our favorite spots.
The house has all you need and more.
Both Marion and Kevin was great to communicate with. Both had great humor and I really appriciate being invited to a mens coffee by Kevin the last day of our stay. Thank you both for being so nice and generous. You made our first trip to Australia perfect! Hope you are able to visit Norway in the future.
Wow! What a week we had!
Perfectly located close to the beach and restaurants.
The house had a very good layout and every detail seems very well thought through. Modern and stylish.
Judy and Gary took us for drives around the area, and we where able to watch both kengaroos and whales! They picked us up at the airport and drove us to the bus station when we left. Thank you both😍.
Hervey Bay is a quiet little town where you absolutly can relax and let the blood pressure get down😉
Judys house has everything you need and PLU has once more impressed us.
We had the pleasure of hosting Roger, Lana and Ryan during their summer holiday in Norway.
The exchange started with a very nice video call. Communication was great at all time. This family has a very nice view of life, always positive, smiling, friendly, playful. I admire how they did daily updates on Facebook, and they even found a new, unknown to us, attraction in the neighbouring village. It is now added to the home manual. Thank you!
We also had the pleasure of meeting them and share a dinner. Also appreciated some nice talks with Ryan when we did a local hike. Always nice to listen to younger peoples thoughts of things. Highly recommended guests for future PLU exchanges, and we look forward to visit their place in the future!
It was a pleasure to host Claudia, her sister and their husbands.
4 easy going Americans. Good comuncations all along. Great humor is always a plus.
They left the apartment tidy and spotless.
Great guests!
John and Anne a very nice retired couple from Ireland left our apartment in excellent condition..
We had the pleasure of meeting them and went for a short trip in the neighborhood.
We can really recommend them as guests.
Hugos house is perfectly located between Bologna and Firenze. Just 5 minutes from highway, but feels like in the countryside. His house is full of art. He has two beautiful cats😍. As most cats they are independent. We got many good recommendations for hikes and places in the nearby area. If you are looking for a nice quiet place I would absolutly recommend Hugos place.
We had the most amazing time in Germany. Ninas house is perfectly located between a lot of interesting places. It is in a very quiet area. The welcome was so nice with a big basket of food, drinks and sweets as the shop was closed when we arrive. Nice house with quality materials used. Nina had a lot of suggestions for hikes and restaurants. We hope Nina and family come visiting us in Norway soon.
Ivanas secondary home is perfectly located above the river. It is only a few hundred meters walk down to the river. If you know how to paddel a canoe, you will have the time of your life. Padling in the beautiful river all by yourself is simply fantastic. The river is slow moving, so no danger. There is also a place where you can dive from the trees or use a swing to jump into the river.
The home has everything you need. Very clever setup for a small home. Nice comfy terrace and balcony.
It was a pleasure to host Ivana and her lovely family. They took great care of our appartment and left it spotless, even though they left early in the morning. They are down to earth, reflective and very nice people. Communication was great. Looking forward to visit them in the spring. You are welcome back any time (and I could almost guarantee you better weather :-). I would highly recommend them as guests in your home.
