Notes
While chilling on the beach or terrace and enjoying the upscale yet charming ambience of the village is one option, the real draw here is the spectacular coast lines, hiking, mountain biking, and paddle boarding (bikes and board provided). Salema is a micro climate and enjoys far more moderate temperatures than southern Europe in general. Check our climate before you decide it may be too hot or too cold.

Neighbourhood
Salema is the last village on the south coast of Portugal before the end of the peninsula. The whole area is part of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano and Costa Vicentina and is an outdoor lovers paradise. The village is entirely within the park. Salema retains its charm and is far removed from the mass tourism of the Algarve coast. You'll find fishing traditions, narrow streets, and whitewashed houses. 13 restaurants, a couple of low key bars and a small blues music venue but no nightclubs or late night parties. Nightlife is 20 minutes away in Lagos. Two markets, a pharmacy and bus stop, everything you need is in the village. Hiking West from Salema, the coast is the most beautiful in Portugal and right outside of our door. 2 mountain bikes, a paddleboard, and body boards provided. Car available.
Getting to my home
Faro Airport 1 hour 10 minutes by car, Lisboa Airport 2 hours 50 minutes by car. Train or bus from either airport to Lagos, bus to Salema from Lagos.

Bom dia de Praia do Salema Portugal! Mostly retired US citizen and 4 year Portugal resident, I love dearly my adopted home and would love to help you discover this unique area. First the weather! Sunny and perfect over 300 days a year, yet a micro climate of cooler temperatures than the central or Eastern Algarve. I can swim in the sea in January and hike or bike most of the summer, with it being only occasionally too hot, and those are paddleboarding days. Then the Portuguese, the most charming and friendly people you'll find anywhere. Finally, the natural beauty of both coasts and the nearby mountains of Monchique.

Frequent solo traveler, occasionally with friends, offering Salema beach Portugal. Mostly retired US citizen and Portugal resident living in Portugal for 4 years in a small fishing village in the country. Prefer European city breaks but open. US, Canada, Australia, Asia not currently on my list. Can travel on short notice. Planning UK in August and would love to add Edinburgh for the Fringe festival. Amsterdam in the spring?
"August 2024, mountains or waterside, cool region anywhere (not North America please)"
