Neighbourhood
The quaint historic estuary port of Topsham has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with an eclectic cluster of specialist shops and fine restaurants, plus wonderful sunsets above the estuary. Once a thriving port and shipbuilding centre, Topsham still retains a strong maritime flavour.
Distinctive buildings include elegant 17c Dutch-style merchant houses in The Strand like the attractive Topsham Museum where interesting exhibitions include Vivian Leigh memorabilia of Gone With The Wind fame, linked to Topsham through her first marriage.
Good food is a Topsham speciality with many historic pubs, and award-winning restaurants including The Galley Fish & Seafood Restaurant, with panoramic views of the Exe Estuary, and the Salutation Inn, where you can experience the freshest local catch, or the best afternoon teas! The excellent quality of Topsham's food and drink and community spirit is celebrated every summer at the Topsham Food Festival.
Topsham shopping also offers a vibrant mix of boutiques, galleries, gifts, fine wines and foods, and antiques including several floors to browse at the former Customs House on the quay. On Topsham's outskirts, you will also find Darts Farm, a treasure trove of delicious local produce and lifestyle shopping.
Further along, the narrow Goat Walk beside the Exe estuary offers wonderful views and sunsets. These estuary mudflats and Bowling Green Marsh RSPB Reserve are home to a vast array of water-birds including avocet, dunlin, little ringed plover, and little egret. Topsham has many town trails to embark on, the perfect way to explore the area and learn something you didn't know about this fascinating town.
Topsham's charming passenger ferry deposits passengers (and bikes) across the Exe for pleasant walking and pub lunches at two idyllic waterside pubs, the Turf and Double Locks. You can also take short or long cruises to discover the wildlife of the Exe estuary or to Exmouth's sandy beaches.

Melanie
We're a family of 3 adventurers who can't sit still. I'm Melanie, I'm married to Nick and we have a 12 year old son called Sam.
We live in a beautiful, 17th century historic house in Devon, England with views of the sea.
We love to explore nature spots, are passionate about wildlife and conservation and can tackle most sports (well the boys can - I sometimes prefer to chill!)
We've been experimenting with AirBnB but now want to launch ourselves into home swaps so we can see more of the world while Sam still wants to go on holiday with his parents !
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
