General overview
Welcome to our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom spacious apartment located in Rio Tinto, a city just outside of Porto, Portugal.
Porto is an internationally renowned location known for Port wine, pastel de nata, history, fado music, and authentic Portuguese cuisine and culture. Porto has access to river beaches, ocean beaches, and is one hour's drive from the famous Douro Valley, the wine region of Portugal.
The apartment building only has 3 stories and 6 units total. There is a dedicated garage in the basement and the unit comes with one parking spot.
The space
House layout:
1) Room 1: master bedroom (with bathroom included) that has a large double bed.
2) Room 2: single bed (usually used as a kids room)
3) Room 3: double bed
Living room, entry hallway, kitchen, plus bonus storage room included as well! The kitchen leads into a side area where the washing machine and hang drying is done. We have a cozy home with all the things needed for a comfortable stay - couch, kitchen appliances, coffee maker, etc. For entertainment, we have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney plus as well as many local channels.
Guest access
The apartment is on the first floor which, in Portugal, means there is one flight of stairs from the ground floor (with entrance) to the apartment level.
Notes
We do not wear shoes inside the house so ask the same for our guests. Frances is allergic to cats, so unfortunately we cannot house any cats or exchange to homes with cats. We have a dog who will go to a sitter during your stay.
We are a non-smoking home!

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood is the best within Rio Tinto because of its proximity to
1) the Metro which will get you into Porto in 10-15 minutes (5 min walking to the metro)
2) a large, modern urban park with multiple play structures (5 min walking to this park)
3) an enclosed shopping mall with many restaurants, a movie theater, and large grocery store (Auchan) (10 min walking to this mall)
4) a wooden pedestrian walkway that runs from Rio Tinto all the way down to the Douro river
The immediate neighborhood is quiet and calm with low traffic. Lots of families live in the area. There is also a health center located down the street from the apartment (3 min walk).
Getting to my home
From the airport:
- 20 min Uber/Bolt/Taxi ride for 10-15 euros
- Accessible by metro but longer journey (50 min)
From the train station:
- Ride to Rio Tinto station and 4 min ride from there
Nearest airport
OPO - 20 minute ride
Getting around
There is a metro stop 5 minutes walking that will get you into downtown Porto in 15 minutes. Otherwise, there is a nearby bus stop. Bolt and Uber are very affordable as well (usually 5-10 euros for rides).
In walking distance there is a park, large mall with large grocery store, and pedestrian walking path.
