Neighbourhood
L'arrabassada, Tarragona, is a popular, family friendly, beach neighbourhood with a buzzing café culture.
All amenities you could want, can be found within streets of the apartment including gym & yoga, dry cleaning, beauty & hair salon, pharmacy, florist & book store.
Tarragona has amazing food, with many food festivals throughout the year. The city prides itself with several KM0 restaurants, certified for using only local, organic ingredients.
In the neighbourhood there are local restaurants, wine & tapas bars, bakeries and delicatessens.
For young kids there are several play areas, as well as an indoor soft play; for the older ones, a football/ basketball court & ping pong table are in the main square.
The Arrabassada beach is a 500 meter stretch of fine golden sand, with a shallow slope to the water meaning its safe and accessible for all the family.
There are no waves or strong currents.
In the summer season there are 3 lifeguard towers as well as a first aid cabin with beach mobility aids making the sand and water accessible for all.
Pedalos, beach volleyball and paddelboards are all available to hire on the beach during the summer months.
There are 3 beach restaurant/bars open morning to night in the summer with 1 remaining open all year round.
Or like the locals, feel free to take your picnic to enjoy on the beach with likeminded families.
Tarragona heritage involves a lot of human towers (Castels), fire runs (Correfoc) and processions.
Dont miss the below festivals where you can witness some or all of these traditions.
#Reyes - January 5th the wise men arrive in Tarragona, the day is celebrated with a carnival-like procession through the city with fun floats throwing candy for kids.
#Carnaval - always in February, a lot of fancy dress and professional floats are involved for this week long party.
#Semana Santa - Easter is a religious affair with the traditional processesions day and night.
#San Jordi - April 23, Catalan Valentines day, tradition is to exchange roses and books, the streets are filled with charity stalls selling both.
#Tarraco viva - May, Tarragona's historic Roman festival.
#Sant Joan - June 23 - 24, bonfires and fireworks on the beaches to mark the sun at its highest.
#Sant Roc & Sant Magi - August, Tarragona's small festival with lots of music, giants and bigheads.
#Santa Tecla - Tarragona Main festival in September, the biggest of the year lasting almost 2 weeks with a packed agenda!
Barcelona, one of the most popular cities in Europe, is accessible by car, train or bus. I recommend taking the scenic train which passes along the coast and drops you in the centre of Barcelona.
Also within 1 hour drive of Tarragona:
Portaventura theme park and water park.
Ferrariworld theme park.
The globally famous Priorat & Montsant wine & olive oil regions with various festivals held through May - September.
The delta of the Ebro river, an eco-mecca for birdwatchers and keen fishers.
Nearest airport
Reus Airport -13 KM
Barcelona Airport - 81 KM
