General overview
If I'm honest, my house is a very normal house in a very normal street. It's not historic, or quirky, or grand, but it's comfortable, cosy, clean and perfectly located to explore Chester and the North West of England and North Wales.
The space
The house is a typical 1950's semi-detached three-bedroomed house (only two are available for exchange as I use the third as my office).
Both bedrooms have king-sized beds, and enough floor space for a travel cot or inflatable single mattress.
I don't have little people in my life any longer, so am not equipped with highchairs, stair-gates or toys etc. Other than that the house is fairly child-friendly though.
The sofa in the garden room can be made up into an extra bed if required.
There is off-road parking for one car, with extra space available on the road for additional vehicles.
Guest access
Unfortunately the house isn't really suited to anyone with mobility issues. There is a single step to each entrance, and a full flight of stairs to the bedrooms. There is no downstairs toilet. Sorry!
Notes
Although the house is well equipped with pretty much everything you would need for your stay, something I don't have is a dining table. It's a "teas on knees" kind of house, which I appreciate isn't for everyone. With so many fantastic eateries in Chester though, who wants to be bothered cooking when they're away from home?!

Neighbourhood
The house is in a quiet suburban area, with children's play areas and local convenience stores.
A 20 minute walk takes you into Hoole, which has a lovely selection of cafes, bars, restaurants and local shops.
Going slightly further afield, it is just two miles to the centre of the historic city of Chester (which is fast becoming a foodie's dream), the famous Chester Zoo, and the A55 - which takes you directly into North Wales with it's wonderful coastline, mountains and picturesque scenery.
Five miles gets you to the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet shopping centre, where there is also a cinema complex, ten pin bowling, and numerous eateries.
A 30 minute drive will get you to Liverpool City Centre - with it's Beatles heritage, famous waterfront and fantastic shopping mall.
And within an hour you can be in the centre of Manchester City, Delamere Forest, Knowsley Safari Park, Tatton Park or any number of other places of interest.
Getting to my home
Just a mile from the M53, with it's links to the M56 / M6 north and south, car is definitely the easiest way to get here.
If you prefer train, both Bache and Chester stations are a 1.5 mile walk. Taxis are available at Chester station, but not Bache.
Nearest airport
Both Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport are roughly a half hour drive.
Getting around
A car is definitely the easiest way to travel around here, although buses are also an option.
By foot it is one mile into Hoole, or two miles into Chester city centre or to Chester Zoo.

Sue & Dave are fabulous guests: easy and fun to communicate with, responsive and very organised. They treated our home with great respect and left it in perfect condition, probably even a little cleaner than we left it for them! I have no hesitation in recommending them as exchangers.
Thanks for all your recommendations and information, all so helpful. They are just the perfect guests, are kind and generous, and left our home clean and tidy. We really hope to welcome them back sometime,
Sue and Dave were perfect swappers. Everything was in excellent shape when we got back and our two cats seemed very relaxed. They sent us a reassuring photo of the cats too, during their stay. Communication throughout was excellent with them too -- we had a zoom call to sort out a few things -- really useful.
We highly recommend swapping with Sue and Dave!
Dave and Sue left our house immaculate and tidy. We wouldn't have known they had been in!
Unsurprisingly, not only were Drew and Kathy the perfect hosts, they were also the perfect guests. We kept in touch during the exchange, and it was great to hear about the local places they were visiting and the trips they were taking – it’s so nice to hear about the ‘hits’ so we can help make recommendations to future guests.
When we returned home we found the house immaculate and perfectly tidy (despite us having told them not to bother wasting precious holiday time with cleaning), and really wouldn’t have known Drew and Kathy had been here, other than the lovely thank you note and gift that they left for us.
Our only regret was that our paths crossed so fleetingly at the beginning of the exchange, meaning that we didn’t get to spend more time chatting and getting to know Drew and Kathy. Hopefully we can put that right next time!
It seems mildly ridiculous to be leaving a review of Drew and Kathy as exchangers when, having set up People Like Us, of course they know how to be the perfect people to swap homes with! And on that front we weren’t disappointed on any level!
From the first point of contact, communication was fantastic – friendly, informative, humourous and reliable. We very soon felt that Drew and Kathy were friends we just hadn’t met yet.
And then we arrived in Warrawee to discover that their house is just as gorgeous as the photos on the site make out – clean, spacious, well-equipped, comfortable, welcoming, and a true home from home. The location is perfect, especially so for us as we have friends and family nearby, but even for those without that draw, there are shops and restaurants a short walk away, and within a couple of minutes walk you can be at Warrawee station and on a train into the city - with all of the many attractions there. Drew also allowed us the use of his car, which opened up so many other national parks and attractions for us to explore nearby.
We had a truly amazing stay in Warrawee, and really did feel that we couldn’t have hoped for a more perfect swap than this. We definitely would be happy to exchange again any time!
Muriel and Paul's home is lovely! The perfect combination of a traditional building combined with all modern luxuries, it manages to be light and airy, yet warm and cosy, all at the same time. The house has every facility and comfort you could wish for. It is peaceful and secluded (cattle and sheep the other side of the fence!) but, amazingly, is just minutes away from the motorway and the bustle of Cumbernauld - making it the perfect location for a bit of downtime, and also an excellent centre from where to explore The Trossachs, Stirling, Glasgow.... the list goes on.
Muriel and Paul were wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome and at home in their house. They were full of recommendations of things we might like to see while there, and kept in touch during the exchange to ensure everything was going to plan.
Muriel and Paul were just the loveliest of guests, who left our house absolutely immaculate. If we hadn't have known they'd been here, we wouldn't have been able to tell. We'd have them to stay again any time!
We had a lovely stay at Jinny and Adrian's house, which is very homely and comfortable and has so much space! Built into the hillside, from the front it appears to be a small stone cottage, but once through the front door it goes back and back and up and down - it's incredible!
The view to the rear is beautiful, and the decking area is perfect for taking this in whilst enjoying a cheeky sundowner. The location is perfect for exploring Glastonbury's quirky and eclectic nature - we've never experienced anything quite like it anywhere else, and all within a short walking distance. The view from the top of the tor is spectacular and well worth the walk - which isn't anywhere near as arduous as it appears to be from the bottom. Nearby Wells is traditional market town, but also well worth a visit and one that we enjoyed very much.
All in all we had a lovely weekend, thank you Jinny and Adrian!
Jinny and Adrian were great guests and left our house neat and tidy. We'd communicated by email and video call prior to the swap, so it really did feel that we were having friends to stay in our house while we were away, and we all knew what to expect from the exchange. We kept in touch over WhatsApp a few times during the swap, not too much, just enough for us all to know that things were going well and that we were all happy.
Things couldn't have gone any more smoothly with this as our first house swap. Liz and Max's house is welcoming and comfortable and we felt at home from the minute of arrival. We were lucky with the weather during our visit, so were able to make the most of Liz and Max's spectacular garden - amazingly designed, quiet, secluded and beautiful. As the evenings drew in we were still able to enjoy the garden from the comfort of their lovely conservatory.
The location is perfect for exploring the National Forest - we had a wonderful day out there, and another in the historic city of Winchester. The South Downs way is practically on the doorstep, as are so many other visit-worthy locations. The weekend just went too quickly!
Communication with Liz and Max in advance was great, and it really did feel like we were letting friends stay in our house while we were away. They were perfect guests and left the house immaculate - if we hadn't have known they'd been there, there would have been no way of telling. All in all this was the perfect experience as a first time swap!
