General overview
Great comfortable home. Heritage features and well-appointed finishes, while being our young family home. The oldest house in a very friendly street. Unplumbed studio down the back with single sofa bed.
A little Burmese cat called Engine to keep you company too. Very self-sufficient, feel free to tell him to rack off if he tries to scratch the couch.
Available over Christmas, and potentially a few weekends here and there over school holidays.
It is an older well-maintained home, while being our family home - so very lived in. This is not ideal for people looking for an airbnb or rental product. It's our special urban oasis, open for you and your guests to enjoy.
The space
Three-bedroom 1890s house. Great entertainers' kitchen, that spills onto back veranda. Great stainless steel infra-red bbq with tables and chairs to look over the mature avocado, orange and paperbark trees. Cheese boards, wine, the paper delivered on a weekend or candle lit dinners are welcome here.
Creative studio with sofa single bed if things get tight- no plumbing though. The gardens are all native at front and tropical at rear, with vegetables available at different times of the year. We are actively moving towards more plant species to sustain local wildlife, so you won’t find lawns here.
Help yourselves to a fire pit with plenty of wood under house or take the kayak out on the river.
Guest access
Level home though stairs down to studio, backyard and fire pit. One step to enter into home at front. Fully fenced and very safe area. Google door nest security.
Notes
We have a manual for our guests with notes on local markets, galleries, cafes and walks and transport options.
Really recommend you take our kayak down to Cooks river launch for paddle. If more that one person, there is a kayak business with cafe four minutes walk from our home.
Also strongly encourage wanders down the river to local golf club or German restaurant for lunch / dinner.
Photos of the house are a guide. The vanity in bathroom has been painted and the floor on back veranda is scheduled for paint upgrade. This is our family home so it will have signed of being generally lived in by a young family. While the floors are washed and linen clean, there will be dust in corners and bric-a-brac about. We are happy to share our home with you, so you get the full experience but request a video tour ahead of your stay to set you and our home up for success.
We are a WIRES wildlife care and rescue family and there are some aviaries in the back garden. Unless otherwise mentioned, it is unlikely we would have any possums etc in care for your stay.

My wife and I have two small boys- 8 and 10. We’re an active family but our house also tells the story of comfort, convenience and love of being ensconced in our own tranquil getaway, right in the middle of Sydney, Australia.
Tucked in behind the Goolay’yari (Cooks) river, we have light rail, metro and bus options to get you everywhere. the village shops are 5 minute walk away, with many great bars, cafes, book stores and international options. Our neighbours are terrific and we’ll leave you with our fabulous coffee machine and fire pit. It’s very quiet but five minute walk to action.
We’re planning a big trip to Italy mid sept to mid oct 2024 so my wife (Italian) can show me and the boy some of the culture. We don’t want a hefty itinerary, opting to fall in with the local pulse. We’ll fly into Rome, and out of Milan a month later.
