General overview

Our home is in a family-friendly neighborhood located 1 mile from a beautiful Lake Michigan beach.  Lovely hiking and biking trails, playgrounds and parks are located just outside the front door. Come explore the wooded trails and sand dunes leading straight to the beach!

The space

Our home offers three bedrooms and two bathrooms.  The downstairs is spacious and, along with one bedroom, features a large play area (with LOTS of toys, art supplies & games). There is also a family room with a big couch, television and many streaming options using our fast and reliable wifi. The bathroom and laundry is located downstairs as well. 

Upstairs, you'll enjoy the open concept design with tall ceilings, a large kitchen island, a dining room table and a living room for reading, resting and board games. There are two additional bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom featuring a large vanity with two sinks. 

Access the backyard from the dining area and enjoy the privacy provided by the Michigan dune and the fenced in patio. There is a playset and sandbox in the backyard to entertain children and you are a two minute walk from a public nature preserve with a wooded hiking trail, a baseball diamond, small soccer field and a tennis court to use at anytime.

Guest access

As a bi-level home, both the main and garage door open up to the entryway landing with stairs to take you either up to the main living space or down to the play room, third bedroom, laundry and bathroom. For wheelchair access and difficulty with stairs, this house might not be the best fit.

Notes

We LOVE the area we live and spend countless hours hiking, biking and commuting our kids around on the trail systems. We are in very close proximity to two lovely towns (each 3-4 miles away) and the trails to get you there are right on our street. 

Grand Haven is Coast Guard City USA. It's a year-round vacation destination known for its soft sand beaches on Lake Michigan. Expect to see surfing, swimming, kite boarding, fishing, biking and hiking while you are here. The Grand Haven lighthouse and boardwalk, beaches and restaurants are a must-see! This is a great place for those excited to get outside--even better if you have kids--as our house will accommodate and entertain them well! 

Spring Lake is equal distance from us and you'll find miles and miles of bike trails, a delicious bakery, great restaurants and coffee shops. Its namesake, the beautiful Spring Lake, offers boat rentals and access to water sports.

We have kayaks, a stand up paddleboard, beach toys, two ebikes, pedal bikes and a bike trailer available for you to use. A pop-up camper and camping supplies may also be available if we're not using it. 

We do have a very friendly border collie who loves to get outside and would love to explore with you while you're here or we can coordinate other options for him as well.

Neighbourhood

Parks, beach, playgrounds, bike trails! We live one mile from a grocery store, pizza place, a beautiful Lake Michigan beach and there are beautiful nature trails outside our door. This is a very friendly residential neighborhood. We live close to multiple public beaches which are worth exploring while you're here. Just a note that our driveway is on a hill.

There is a YMCA in Grand Haven with pickleball and tennis courts, an indoor pool and a gym. 

There are three golf courses within a six mile radius of our home.

Getting to my home

You can get here by bike, plane, train or automobile!

Nearest airport

Plane: 50 minutes from the Grand Rapids Airport or just 13 minutes from the smaller Muskegon County Airport

Train: 30 minutes from the Amtrak train station in Holland which can take you to and from Chicago

Auto: Just south of Grand Haven, which is on Highway US-31

Hello! My name is Katie and my husband, Eric, and I live with our 3 kids (ages 2, 4 & 6) just outside the beautiful beach town of Grand Haven, Michigan. We both love to travel and have experience living and traveling abroad; however, home exchange is new to both of us! We hope to eventually travel for longer periods of time (months at a time) but currently are looking to fill up our vacation time with 1-2 week trips to see new places and experience new cultures together. I always love an opportunity to share and practice the Spanish language with my family, but am excited for opportunities to see and experience new cultures and language as well.
