My friend and I had the good fortune to arrange a Globe exchange with Naa, whose home was in a perfect location for us! It was only 20 minutes door-to-door by metro from Naa's to the New City Hall and Marienplatz, giving us easy access to many of the city-centre sights. The location to the south west of Munich was also ideal when we rented a car for some day trips to Neuschwanstein and Oberammergau, since it cut our driving times by around 30 minutes. We also found it very easy to find on-street parking on returning home in the evening.
We particularly loved having a balcony with amazing views, and also enjoyed wandering around the local area with historical - and interestingly mixed - architecture. Nearby there were beer gardens as nice as but far less crowded, than in the city centre. Having supermarkets next to the metro station made it easy to pick up dinner or picnic supplies on the way home.
We had a video chat with Naa, but didn't meet her: Perhaps next time? I have been in Munich several times already, but would happily do a repeat exchange!
Dear Shona, thank you for your feedback. It was a pleasure having you as my official first home exchanger, and I am glad that you were able to experience the convenience and ease that comes with the apartment, especially the balcony. You got to explore the vicinity of Hadern and even found some Hidden gems like the beer garden I haven't discovered yet.
All in all the experience was positive albeit stressful for me as I was really anxious about having everything perfect for you both, so I appreciate your patience and feedback throughout the whole process. It was amazing having you and your friend as guests. Getting to know you beforehand on the zoom call and the few minutes in-person during the apartment handover was good, and you took care of my home like it was yours.
Shona left me a lovely Basil plant in my balcony and also bought trellises for my experimental baby tomato plant.
Feel free to contact me again if you want to visit Munich again.
It was such an honour to host Shona and her friend for a week here in Munich.
Since this was my first exchange, I was of course very nervous and tried to make sure I did everything to make sure it was perfect, which I'm sure it wasn't, but Shona was quite reassuring and understanding and even gave some tips. I am grateful and happy that Shona trusted me and had this exchange.
Communication before the exchange was pretty easy, and I was able to have a Zoom meeting with both guests before they came to Munich. Before and after the exchange Shona was very understanding, they were nice enough to care for my plants and leave me a new plant baby in my balcony bed, which I really appreciate. They left my flat really clean, and I could tell that they were very mindful of my home. I will be happy to host you both again in Munich anytime you visit.
Really awesome first exchange for me on PLU. I am glad to be part of the family.
