Welcome to our home!
This is the main home for us and our children and has all a small family should need for a break to the city of Manchester, with great public transport links to take you into the city, to other nearby cities (Liverpool is 1 hour away, London 2 hours) and out into the wonderful Peak District and Lakes national parks.

The space
A mini tour!
Arriving at our house we have a private drive with space for a car and a large garage which we use for storage (rare in this city). Our hallway has storage for coats and shoes and keeps the hoover etc.
Living room has two comfy sofas and an arm chair, TV with Fire Stick.
We have a kitchen diner which means you can prepare your meals while socialising with your family. The kitchen has all you would expect - oven, dishwasher, large fridge etc.
Upstairs are three bedrooms - a master with king size bed and two kids rooms - one with with bunk beds and one with a high sleeper and pull out single bed - and bathroom with shower over bath.
Outside we have a large (for Manchester!) garden with a trampoline, table to eat, raised beds and a small pond. Also in the garden is the shed which holds a washer and a tumble dryer.
If you need to work from home we tend to do it from the kitchen table which obviously isn’t always ideal with kids around but we can also usually arrange local or city-based co-working space if needed.
Guest access
The front entrance to our home is gravel and narrow entrances would likely make it inaccessible to wheelchairs. All bedrooms are on the first floor up stairs so may be unsuitable for some with mobility difficulties.
Notes
We have a great relationship with all of our neighbours and have a good community of sharing so often, if we don’t have something we need, it can be borrowed.

Neighbourhood
We love our neighbourhood!
Levenshulme is a suburb of Manchester, about three miles from the centre of the city. It’s like a lot of places in the city - it has some poverty and some fancy stuff, living side by side. It’s very multicultural too so alongside the nice bars, cafes and cultural centres, we have Middle Eastern supermarkets selling every spice you can imagine, and restaurants from every place under the sun.
For me the thing that really sets Levenshulme apart is that it is a community - people know each other, care for each other and share their lives together. We have lived here since long before our kids were born and we’re very connected to the community and would be happy to connect you with families with similar age kids to yours, to people with professions or interests related to your own, if you’d like.
In walking distance there is a supermarket (Tesco), train station, bus stop, cycle path, cafes, restaurants, bars, a park with playground and loads of other stuff.
Getting to my home
Our home is very accessible - you are welcome to hire a car but won’t need to unless you plan to travel somewhere off piste.
Trains run from Levenshulme station (10 minutes walk) a few times an hour and take 6 minutes to reach the centre of Manchester, from where you can explore the city or change trains to travel all over the UK. London is 2 hours, Edinburgh is 3 hours, other trains will take you direct to the Peak District, The Lake District, Wales and the coast.
We also live about 10 minute’s walk from an extremely busy bus route - I never even bother to check the timetable, buses come at least every five minutes and take 20-30 minutes to reach the city and other buses run a few times an hour to the University.
Nearest airport
The nearest airport is Manchester, reachable in 30 minutes on the train or £20-£30 in a taxi.
Getting around
Walk! Pretty much everything you need can be found in walking distance. We have bikes (and kids bikes) for adventures up the cycle path of you want them and, as above, public transport is really accessible.

Helen
Hi - we’re Viv (also known as Richard) and Helen, travelling with our two children, Maeby (8) and Vinnie (5). Viv is a writer, editor and works for arts organisations. Helen is a specialist in political and policy communications. We both love to travel and particularly to get to understand the culture and life of a place (especially the food!). We’re usually only available for swaps during the school holidays but interested in all sorts of locations, particularly cities or places next to the water.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.

Dining room with seating - dining table folds out to seat 8 if needed.
Kitchen with oven, fridge, freezer and every gadget you should need for your stay.
