Neighbourhood
We live in an outdoor-lovers paradise in this popular holiday location on the Bellarine Peninsula! Our home is in one of the newer estates within Ocean Grove that is family-friendly, safe and relatively quiet.
Ocean Grove beach is known as a stunning, safe beach for swimming (patrolled beaches during summer), great for families. Ideal location to learn to surf.
Our other favourite local beaches within a 10-15min drive are Barwon Heads and Point Lonsdale. At low tide both of these locations have rockpools you can bathe/swim in. Also fantastic snorkelling.
There are fantastic playgrounds nearby, along with a nature reserve and the river that is ideal for kayaking/paddle boarding or just having a splash with the kids.
Lots of Bellarine Peninsula wineries, whiskery and cider house nearby with tasty food and drinks, perfect spot for foodies! We're happy to provide local recommendations 😊
Other attractions include:
- Swimming with dolphins and seals in Queenscliff
- A day out at the Adventure Park Geelong theme park/water park (5-min drive from our house). Open Dec-March each year as a theme park. They also have great Christmas lights and Winter Wonderland events at other times in the year.
- Taking a ride on the historic Bellarine railway which offers regular rides, Q Train luxury lunch and a Bluestrain with meal and show
- Touring the historic sites of Fort Queenscliff
- Adventure Mini Golf is a 3-minute drive away, and driving ranges/golf courses are within a 10-minute drive
Our home is also a great base if you're coming for the National Celtic Folk Festival in Portarlington in June, or the Queenscliff Music festival in November (both 20 mins or less away).
7 mins drive to Ocean Grove beach
11 mins to Point Lonsdale Beach
12 mins to Barwon Heads
20 mins to Queenscliffe passenger/car ferry across to Mornington Peninsula

25 mins to Geelong
30 mins to Torquay
35 min to the start of the Great Ocean Road in Jan Juc
40 mins to Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Geelong port
90 mins to Melbourne CBD
(Note: the Great Ocean Road a 4.5 hr drive one-way without stopping. There is so much to see so you'd want to give yourself more than a day to explore it!)
Getting to my home
Best to drive as we live in a regional town. There is potential for a car swap pending insurance etc.
There are train connections to Geelong and a bus from there to Ocean Grove. We're about 1km from the bus stop.
Nearest airport
Avalon airport (40 min drive)
Melbourne Tullamarine airport (1hr 30min drive)
Gull bus does transfers to/from Ocean Grove from both airports.
Getting around
We recommend that you have a car to maximise your stay. We may be able to arrange a car swap with prior agreement (pending confirmation from insurance).
Closest shops are about 1km away.
Ocean Grove Surf Beach is 5km away.
