Light-filled, spacious, custom home filled with unique and thoughtful details. From the entertainment hub of the kitchen, family room, and dining room, to the finished attic with walk-out balcony, to the private back deck with hot tub, you will be charmed and delighted by the sun-drenched spaces and cozy nooks.
The space
The main floor features a two story entry with dining room opening to the back deck. The dining table is custom-made for the space and expands to seat 12.
The kitchen opens onto an open-beam family room with wood fireplace and windows on three sides letting in beautiful light all day long. Designed with family cooking in mind, the kitchen features a large butcher block island, gas stove, dishwasher, and pantry.
The front room is cozy with a propane fireplace as well as piano and comfy leather armchairs - a favourite spot to curl up with a book year round.
The guest bedroom and en suite bath is also on the main level and is designed to be universally accessible, with wide doorways and no-transition shower.
A mud room off the garage has lots of storage for coats and boots, as well as hooks for towels for the hot tub located just off the back deck. There is also a two piece powder room.
Upstairs is separated into two sections: on one side of the entry is the large master bedroom with walk-in closet. The en suite bathroom features a separate water closet, soaking tub, and shower with double nozzles.
Above the master bedroom is the sun-filled attic: a great home office, yoga room, games room, or art space. The sheltered balcony is a lovely space to sip coffee in the morning or wine in the evening.
To the right of the entry are the laundry room, 4 piece bathroom, two children’s bedrooms (one queen bed and one with double/twin bunk bed), and large playroom/movie room with Sonos surround sound.
The yard is level and wide open in the back for sports, as well there’s a hammock for relaxation. With protected forest behind the property, the backyard is quiet and serene.
Guest access
There are three floors with two steps into the house from the front walkway.
The open stairs to the second floor are not suitable for young children who cannot navigate stairs on their own (can’t be closed off from the bottom). For guests with mobility issues the main floor and guest room with ensuite are fully accessible.
Notes
We have two lovely cats (Asteroid and Meteor) that depending on your preference, length of stay, and our travel plans, we may arrange to have stay at the house. If they don’t stay we will do our best to remove as much cat fur as possible but it will not be possible to totally eliminate it.

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood is a lovely quiet area just a short drive north of Kincardine. Lake Huron is a few minute’s walk with public access right at the end of our street. A paved bike trail (separate from the road) will take you into the nearby quaint town of Kincardine, and Inverhuron Provincial Park can be biked to on quiet residential streets.
Just 2 minutes down the road is Stony Island Conservation area, with trails for hiking and mountain biking in the summer, and snowshoeing and groomed cross-country skiing in the winter.
Kincardine is a lake-side town with a charming downtown, sandy beaches, an historic lighthouse, extensive trails system, golf courses, and many special events throughout the summer (see Tourism webpage for details visitkincardine.ca):
- Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games www.kincardinescottishfestival.ca
- Summer Pipe Band Parade - each Saturday evening in the summer, enjoy the sounds of the local pipe band as they march down the main street, then follow along to join in the parade! Cap it off with an ice cream cone from The Ice Cream Shack at the end of the parade; a truly unique experience you won't want to miss.
- Monday Market in the Park: explore local artisans, fresh produce, baking, and more!
- Lighthouse Blues Festival: A Top 100 event in Ontario, this intimate event showcases both top talent and promising newcomers. Tickets sell out early so don't wait to get yours! Seating is first come/first serve, and we have a large collection of camping chairs to bring. There are also free secondary stages throughout downtown. www.lighthousebluesfestival.com
- Summer Cruise Nights: Stroll amongst classic cars and unique vehicles in a family friendly event
Wider area (~2 hours drive):
- Tobermory and Bruce Peninsula National Park (reservations required parks.canada.ca/pn-np/on/bruce)
- Blue Mountain Ski Resort (with lots of summer activities as well)
- Sauble Beach and Ascent Aerial Park Climbing Structure
- Goderich ("Canada's Prettiest Town") and salt mine tours
Getting to my home
While there are some airport shuttles, a private car is the best option for getting to our home from the airport or nearby cities. The drive is easy: mostly 2 lane country roads through quaint small rural towns.
Nearest airport
We are approximately 2.5 hours from Toronto International Airport, or 3.5 hours from Detroit International Airport.
Getting around
Kincardine is the closet town (~7km) with many local businesses, restaurants, full size grocery stores, and pharmacies. Owen Sound is ~1 hour away and has larger stores (Home Depot, Micheal’s , etc.) and a small mall. The closet major cities are London (~2 hours), Kitchener (~2 hours), and Toronto (~2.5 hours).
