Hospitality Description: We are interested in exchanging hospitality with international travelers - especially since our family has teens/young people who love to travel and want real local/authentic experiences. Since we homeschool, it's hard to find student exchange programs that are open to our teens and affordable. This looks like a great way to meet new people, show them our local gems, and learn about others' culture.
We have a full size (US queen bed) bedroom and a full size (queen) pullout couch bed in our theater room. Both are private rooms that open into the shared game/rec room. There is also a bathroom with walk-in shower that would only be used by you. Adjoining the game/rec room is a kitchen that would be for your use. (The main kitchen we use is on the main floor, upstairs.) Our 2 teens have their own bedrooms and bathroom on the other side of the rec/game room.

General overview
We have spent years designing and building our family's mountain dream home to be a relaxing sanctuary overlooking Pikes Peak. Since we travel often, we think of this as our home base.
Our calendar availability reflects when we will be gone "for sure" from our home (typically more long-distance trips for us that we've planned ahead and bought plane tickets for.) We do have some flexibility possible with other dates, so please feel free to ask! (We LOVE to travel - so if there is any way to make it work, we will!)
The space
Our home is located on a couple of acres (just like the 6 neighboring houses) on a small dead-end street. Our property borders the national forest, so if you want to hike - this is the place! You can walk out the back door and be in Pike National Forest within 60 seconds!
We have a large deck and patio for relaxing, both with phenomenal Pikes Peak views. In the summer, you can sit and watch the hummingbirds who visit our feeders all day long. Deer can be spotted almost daily, year-round. You might also see elk, bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, fox, coyote, or even a bear. We also have a hot tub on the deck for relaxing.
Inside on the main floor, there is a cozy gas fireplace in the great room/living area and another one in the master bedroom. The master bedroom has a king-size mattress and an attached bathroom with a soaking tub, a double walk-in shower, a bidet, and double sink vanities. There is a gourmet kitchen for the chef, a washer and dryer on the main floor, and another washer/dryer downstairs. Near the great room, there is another full bathroom with a walk-in shower and bidet. There is a small office space for those that need to work, as well as Starlink satellite internet. (Super fast.) There is an additional office/bedroom that will only be included in the exchange with prior arrangements.
In the lower walk-out level, you'll find an extra bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a pull-out double sofa bed next to a hallway bathroom with a walk-in shower. Both our teens have bedrooms on the lower level with a queen-sized bed in each room. (No closet access in the teen's rooms, but plenty of other closet space throughout the house to hang your clothes.) Near our teens' bedrooms, there is another full bathroom with a tub and double sinks. Additionally, our theater room is located on the lower level and one of the couches in the theater room pulls out to a queen size bed.
With prior discussion, we can arrange for two twin mattresses to be available. These beds don't have frames, but can be used on the floor. (They are regular mattresses - not airbeds.)
Quick View:
Main floor
- king in master bedroom
Downstairs:
- bedroom #1 - queen
- bedroom #2 - queen
- bedroom #3 - queen and double pull-out couch
- theater room - queen pull-out couch
- 2 twin mattresses are available (no frames, regular mattress, not airbed)
Guest access
We designed our home to be main floor living (kitchen, main bedroom, bathroom, and laundry all on the main floor.) With garage access (which can be arranged) the main floor is zero entry (no steps.) The main shower is zero entry/wheelchair accessible.
We also have a walk-out basement with lots of natural light that has 3 additional bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a pool table, and a home theater, but you could easily remain on the main floor and have everything you need.
You'll have full access to our huge patio, deck, and our couple of acres that border the National Forest.
Notes
We are looking to travel somewhere warm (Southern Spain, UAE, Bali, Thailand, central or south America, somewhere else???) Between Dec 28, 2004 - Jan 18, 2025. (Flexible on dates.) We have a globe to offer for the right place! Our home is not available Dec 28 - Jan 5 as we already have an exchange family staying. Our home is available Jan 6 - Jan 18 after for non-sim or globe. (Looking for England to base ourselves in for all things Jane Austen in late May - early June 2025.)
Car exchange may be possible. Please ask if you're interested.
We do not accept smoking/vaping guests. Smoking/vaping is not allowed inside or outside our home, on the deck, or any part of our property.
No parties.
We do not usually accept pets. However, a well-behaved dog may be allowed with prior arrangements. No cats due to allergy. We do occasionally dog sit when we are home, so our home may not work if you have allergies. We are very picky about cleanliness and our home will be thoroughly cleaned after we dog sit and before guests arrive.
There is plenty of parking in our driveway. The garage is not included in the exchange without prior arrangement.
The hot tub and trampoline are available for use. Only fully toilet-trained children are allowed in the hot tub - no swim diapers. We do ask that all children are supervised at all times in the hot tub and on trampoline. (We've had to replace our safety net and zipper due to previously unsupervised guest children.)
We are happy to have kids/babies at our home, but please note we do not have a baby gate on our stairs, cabinet locks, highchairs/cribs, etc.

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood is a small private road with only a handful of friendly neighbors living in their mountain dream homes. Our home borders the National Forest, so you can literally hike out the back door to numerous trails in the forest. This also gives the opportunity to view all kinds of wildlife. You may see deer, elk, fox, coyote, hummingbirds, bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, or even a bear.
With easy highway access, it's a quick 20-minute drive to downtown Colorado Springs, with Manitou Springs even closer. Both are top destinations with many tourist attractions - Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, the Broadmoor Hotel, the Air Force Academy, Santa's Workshop, Pikes Peak, Glen Eyrie, Cave of the Winds, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Olympic Training Center, the Olympic Museum, Historic Manitou Penny Arcade, and so many more museums/sights (ask if you're interested in more ideas!)
It's also a 5-minute drive to our cute mountain town with shops, restaurants, a dinosaur museum, a movie theater, and an indoor aquatic center.
If you head in the other direction, you can reach world-class fishing areas in 30 minutes and Cripple Creek, our historical gold-mining town. 40 minutes away. There, you can visit an underground gold mine, watch a summer melodrama, and gamble with table games and slot machines. In the winter months, you can enjoy the Ice Sculptures and Ice Castles.
We are 1.5 hours to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, the mountain towns of Buena Vista and Salida, and the capital city, Denver. We are just under 2 hours drive for skiing at Breckenridge, Ski Cooper in Leadville (our favorite place for families), and Monarch.
Getting to my home
Denver International Airport is about a 1.5 hour drive from our home. Colorado Springs Airport is 30 minutes from our house. Flying into either airport, you'll want to rent a car.
Car exchange may be possible. Please ask if you're interested.
Nearest airport
DIA = 1.5 hours (Denver)
COS - 30 minutes (Colorado Springs)
Getting around
We have one convenience store within walking distance. There is no public transportation near our house or in our town. You need a car. Wal-Mart is a 3-minute drive. Our house is on the outskirts of our town, but it's only a 5 minute drive to Safeway, City Market, restaurants, local movie theater, frozen yogurt shop, parks, and the dinosaur museum.

People Like Us Local Guide
We love meeting people like us! It's always fun to make new friends who love travel and experiencing the world. Happy ro meet for a drink or a coffee and share local tips!
We recently spent two unforgettable weeks at Amanda and Dustin’s beautiful Colorado Mountain retreat in Woodland Park, and it was nothing short of perfection! Flying in and out of Colorado Springs Airport (COS) was a breeze, making the entire trip even more convenient. The home has easy highway access, and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Pikes Peak. It had everything we could have asked for: a relaxing hot tub, a fun ping pong and pool table, and a cozy movie theater room that made our evenings extra special. Amanda and Dustin were warm, welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and provided insider tips on local restaurants and activities. The location is ideal for nature lovers, with great hiking trails nearby and plenty of wildlife to admire, including nightly visits from mule deer. The home’s central location allowed us to explore incredible local attractions like Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, historic Manitou Springs, the Royal Gorge Bridge, the Broadmoor Hotel and the U.S Olympic Museum. We can’t recommend Amanda and Dustin’s house highly enough!
Our family has the most magical exchange at the Bench family home! Amanda and Dustin are such wonderful and kind hosts who provided a lot of local recommendations, thoughtful gifts and notes to make our stay perfect.
The photos of their hike does not do it justice - it has been perfectly designed to capture the gorgeous Mountain views. The kitchen was amazing to cook in. The hike is very spacious and the kids loved the cinema room!
The area is fantastic! We visited the top of Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods as well as lots of local hikes.
Slightly further out we visited Royal Gorge and went whitewater rafting.
Woodland Park is the perfect location to visit the area. Close to lots of attractions and cute towns and lots of shops and amenities close by.
Best of all was the wonderful view from the deck where we ate our meals and relaxed in the hot tub. We were visited by deer, hummingbirds, squirrels chipmunks, rabbits and a bear!
Amanda and family were such gracious hosts and Colorado is the perfect holiday destination. We can’t recommend Amanda’s house and hospitality more. We had the best trip!
David and Pamela were excellent guests in our home. Communication was easy and prompt and we felt at ease from the first contact with them. They were very flexible with dates to ensure the exchange would accommodate our schedules. Our home was well-cared for and left clean and tidy. We'd happily welcome them back anytime!
Christine and her family were exceptional guests! Their communication was excellent, and they took impeccable care of our home. They went above and beyond with the end-of-stay cleaning, leaving everything spotless. Our kids were thrilled to receive thoughtful notes from her children, and we were touched by the lovely gifts they left us. Hosting Christine and her family was a true pleasure, and we look forward to meeting them someday in Australia!
Thank you for sharing your special home. We love to meet you when K graduates!

We are a travel loving family with 2 teens. We love our home base in the mountains of Colorado, but we also love exploring the world. We both can work remotely and we homeschool, so we have lots of flexibility to enjoy new places while doing real-life.
