Our home is in Ajijic, a "Pueblo Magico" as designated by the government of Mexico for its artistic and cultural significance but that's not the reason we love it here so much. We love all of the local traditions, some are hundreds of years old! This village is made up of many families that are 4th, 5th, and 6th generation here in the lakeside which give this place a feeling of connectedness. Most towns we've lived in California are so transient you rarely meet someone born there. The majority of the Mexicans living here are from here! There is a large expat community with people from all over the world including many Europeans.
The space
This home is a recent build in the established, quiet, safe, and highly desirable community of Riviera Alta. Situated on the mountainside of the Carratera just above Ajijic Centro, we are close to all the cultural events and celebrations in the village...but far enough away to be comfortable. Our home has a modern, open floor plan that wraps around the beautiful, solar heated, salt water swimming pool. This very private spacious 300sq. meter home has two large bedrooms, three full bathrooms but please note, AS OUR PRIMARY HOME OUR BEDROOM AND BATHROOM WILL BE LOCKED OFF. The home features stone walls and floors, designer tiles, and quality construction materials. The well designed kitchen features modern appliances. The separate tv room has 2 super comfortable reclining "Stressless" chairs and a 65-inch LG Smart TV. The Guest bedroom has air-conditioning and a 55-inch Smart TV. An Amazon Alexa system provides music throughout the house on 3 devices. With high speed internet and a dedicated work space with double desks, you can continue working if you need to while enjoying this quiet, comfortable home. This home was built in 2022 and all the furnishings are high quality and new as of 2022 and 2023.
Guest access
Our home is wheelchair friendly but this town really isn't due to all the cobblestone streets,
Notes
We have a solar heated salt water swimming pool that we love to keep VERY warm. There is no fence around the pool so not ideal for small children even though the pool is only 4 1/2 feet deep.

Neighbourhood
You will love the location of this home with dozens of restaurants within a short walk. This community, Riviera Alta, features a multi purpose Clubhouse, large solar heated swimming pool, jaccuzi, tennis courts, ping pong table, gymnasium, and a wonderful library. This is one of the most social communities in town with weekly social events you can choose to join or not. The village of Ajijic probably has more annual events than the average city 20 times as large as ours! To see some of these fun activities, check out www.lakesideguide.mx.
We also provide you with a notebook with our favorite restaurants, music venues, taxi drivers and much more. There's never a dull moment in Ajijic and if you enjoy live music you'll LOVE it here!! There have been days when we've heard wonderful live music at 3 different restaurants and all for free!!
Getting to my home
Our home is 40 minutes from Guadalajara Airport and it's approximately $25-$30 USD to our home. It's the most organized Airport Taxi system we have ever seen anywhere! SUPER EASY, fast and efficient! There are car rentals locally for approximately $35 a day.
Nearest airport
approximately 40 minutes from Guadalajara airport with daily non-stops to Europe.
Getting around
You probably won't want/need a car because everything is close by. It's likely every single thing you will want to do here is less than a 30 minute walk. The local buses are less than a half a dollar and taxi's and Uber drivers are very inexpensive too. Approximately $3-$4 USD to go anywhere in town. .

If you come to Ajijic we would love to meet you and share a drink or a meal together!! 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
To everyone considering staying at Janie and Norman's, please DO IT. I had the most perfect time in Ajijic. If you think the pictures are amazing, wait until you see their house in real life; the rooms and the pool are even bigger and more amazing than they look in the pictures.
In addition to having a wonderful home, Janie and Norman are the most welcoming, friendly, generous, and kind human beings. They made me feel at home instantly, and I loved getting to know them!
And the city of Ajijic is a wonderful little town, away from the touristy centers and perfect for a more authentic cultural experience while still being super safe and easy to get around.
Janie and Norman, thank you for opening your home to me. I had the most wonderful time and will remember this time in Ajijic forever. I already miss you and cannot wait to see you in Quebec City! ❤️
We truly enjoyed meeting and spending time with Florine! She is so bright, witty, and such a joy to be around! Beginning with our written communication, she felt like an old friend even before we met! We spent the first 3 and last 5 days of her 17 day Ajijic visit here at home and it was so hard to leave for our 9 day trip to San Miguel because we were all having so much fun together! We really got spoiled having Florine as our very first exchange guest. She is very responsible and conscientious. Talk about clean and tidy, after dinner she had the dishes washed before I could make it to the kitchen sink! Literally! All of our friends loved her and she was always up for any activities we suggested...like going on a goat farm tour, walking the malecon at sunset, or seeing a new performer in town. She has a true love for and appreciation of life! We can't wait to see her again when we visit her beautiful apartment in Quebec City this summer.

Janie
Hola! We're Janie & Norman and happily married since 1984 and we have no children. We love traveling and making new friends all over the world. We've visited over 30 countries and once we found Ajijic in 2016, we retired and moved here from San Diego, California. We've been renting for the past 6 years and touring Central Mexico but after we came to an open house here with friends just for fun, we fell madly in love with this home and had to have it and now we'd like to share it with you!!!
