General overview

This is a traditional 2 bed/1 bath apartment in an old New England building. It is a first-floor unit. The building has four total. There are two spacious bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other a full-sized bed. What was once a living room has been converted to serve as our third 'bedroom'. It has a fancy convertible futon that is queen-sized and can magically transform back into a living room if the bedroom is not needed. There is one full bathroom, nothing fancy.

The space

I think my home is inviting and unique. I blend all styles and love switching it up with random DIY or building projects. I am passionate about the outdoors and gardening. In the milder months, I have a lovely overflowing patio garden with seating and a grill. It is off the kitchen in the back and quite private. In the dead of winter, I still hang out there with my Christmas lights and think of the beach. The kitchen is a large space with big windows letting in a lot of light. Wood floors throughout the unit. A vintage enamel table in the kitchen can expand to seat up to 6/8. I love to cook and you will find everything you need. I have lots of indoor plants, vintage New England seascape oil paintings, a few oils on canvas from Brazil a friend was selling in Hawaii, a small library with wood crates as bookshelves, handmade stunning stoneware dinner plates from Maine, a love for Vietri and excellent cooking knives. I keep it clean and it is cozy and unique.

Guest access

Front and back door access. We have a parking small lot for residents accessed via the front door. I prefer the street parking, closer to the back door and garden and kitchen. Key code pads for all doors. Basement with laundry, bikes, surfboard, etc.

Notes

I do have one cat. Ham is 20 years old and likely is nearing the end of her good life. She pretty much just sleeps and I am not going to disturb her by removing her from the apartment. I can happily arrange for a cat sitter but she would need to remain in the space. You would hardly know she is there until food is on the line.

Neighbourhood

One block away is the small downtown with a coffee shop, post office, hair salon, pharmacy, library, etc. I must emphasize small and quiet. A short drive or bike away you can find more action and services. My neighbors are my friends but we stay out of each other's business. It is a quite old New England town. The Congressional Church across the street tolls her bell every hour on the hour. 10 minutes north is the city of Newburyport. There are multiple beach options, parks, entertainment, beauty, and adventure a short drive away. Boston is 35 minutes away with no traffic. Rowley has a commuter rail station.

Getting to my home

There is a commuter rail stop in Rowley and plenty of public transportation for trips into the city. That said, I cannot imagine getting around the area for any extended period without a vehicle. You will not find a taxi stand at the train station but a kind stranger from down the street might offer you a lift!

Nearest airport

Boston Logan: 35 min with no traffic and 60-90 minutes most of the time. Excellent bus options from BOS to the northshore. Manchester Airport in NH is an easy drive and about 50 min.

Getting around

I recommend a rental. I am also open to car exchange.

Liz

This is a work in progress. I live in Rowley, MA, a small town on the seacoast north of Boston. I have two children. My daughter is 13 and my son is 15. In my past life, I was fortunate to have traveled extensively. I want to share the same with my kids before I blink and they are all grown up. This is my motivation to explore home exchange.
